his "donation" is the innovations he (and others) created... so that we (you and I) could have livelihoods of our own by using these creationsˆˆˆˆˆ as our tools to earn a living. And for some, continue to change the world. I don't understand why some people hold charity against the guy. He taught the man to fish.
In the dying town of Canton, OH are two sad direct marketing companies, both of which import cheap crap from China, buy up unused ad space in papers all over the country, and advertise their shit using false promises and exaggerated claims. Roughly 2,000 employees are wasting their lives for such a lousy cause. Stupid companies like that, which are all over the world, will never be in the same league as Apple.
Love this guy he is soo awesome these few words are soo great i already feel ambitious for my life after listening to him keep those gem videos coming i will watch all of em
@zabrak999 His wife spent much of the last decade involved in multiple charities, he also spoke in favor of organ donation, and he participated in the RED campaign with Apple. Saying he never donated a nickel is a flatout lie.
@zabrak999 First, time is money when youre Steve Jobs. A billionaire using his or her influence to rally support can be just as helpful as him or her donating a couple of million dollars, especially when that person is as influential as Jobs. Second, donations often arent made public unless the person giving the money wants it to be. Steve Jobs isn't concerned with appearing on Oprah to announce how much hes going to give. Chances are he donated, but we will never know for sure how much.
People with Passion can change the world for the better -said the man. thumbs up if you like that qoute .....and watched all my YouTube videos "ad1997" ordered some products posted my videos on your Facebook subscribed and told ten friends and are now a billionaire and love life. I know my thumbs up.
RIP Steve! You were a true visionary! He is so dead on here. So called "experts" tend to over complicate the branding process. It's simple: who are you? What do you represent?
uhn... yes... shit lot of good that commercial did. Don't get me wrong, I'm a steadfast Mac user, have never owned a PC. But Mac almost went downhill around that time with no sign of ever picking up. Not until they came up with the ipod did things start turning around.
But that's part of what Apple is. They're the small but loudmouthed rebel of the computer industry. And I love the fact that Mac is the smaller platform, else I'd be as malware ridden as the PC users - and we don't want that.
@thebbeenn Actually, this commercial did a great deal of good. Jobs had been gone from Apple for 12 years. The company was close to bankruptcy. At the time, Apple had just purchased one of Jobs' companies, Next, to form the basis of a modern operating system for the Mac. Job became an Apple board member at that time, but that was his only tie to Apple. The ad signaled the start of the turnaround. Beginning with the iMac the following year, Apple slowly became profitable again.
@GodFatherCVI Put it this way: without Steve Jobs you and I wouldn't know about Steve Worzniak or anything he would have invented. And wishing "Hell" to anyone, particularly someone who made the world a better place is… not sure, actually.
The question is: what have you invented today and have you made the world a better place yet?
I hated the computers that were donated to the schools. We had to use them, and wait hours in labs after school to do our homework on them. Go to buy one, at the bookstore, and I was looking at three grand of more for a Mac.
Not to mention, five grand for a lousy lazer printer. Had to put up with the sanctimonious pricks at the lab, in the library, who sat around, playing with the balls in the mouse, after classes were out. Waiting for a chance to use one of those bummer Macs, because the professor would not take my perfectly typewritten paperwork, I did at home....
I hated him way back then in the eighties for that.... People were ripping the things out of the labs, off the security cable, and running. Pretty pathetic! That was their marketing plan? Donate these things to the schools, and artificially raise the price? Wow! I never owned any Apple products, all these years. I used IBM clone computers in the eighties, and later on, built my own custom computers. So, hope you enjoy Hell, Steve Jobs. Cause, I would send you there, if it was up to me!
@Ciren343 Oh! Believe me, he is in Hell! People like him, are bound for Hell, the day they start stealing inventions from true people like Steve Wozniak.

The death of Steve Jobs is a blow to the tech industry. In many ways, the loss of this national treasure is a loss to us all. God bless your soul, Steve.
Wiki-Definition: "Genius is something or someone embodying exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight."
Steve Jobs is a genius. Not just for this clip, but for the totality of everything he's done. Completely original man of insight and creativity.
@bboybram LOL...history, economics, the stock market, consumers and the electronics industry which has copied almost everything Apple has ever made would disagree with you.
Again your talking about the whole company Apple and the team behind it. But lets just pick out steve jobs and see what he does every single day... And you'll see that he isn't a genius because there are a lot of other people say and do the same as him.

@bboybram you're failing to understand that Jobs *is* the reason those people were hired, he started the company and it's his vision that leads all of those other people to do great things...so YES, Jobs is a genius. If it were so simple as you suggest, other companies & other people would do the same thing. Apple is Apple because of Jobs, not anyone else...it all starts with him.
I clearly can see that you're are only talking about IT businesses. After 20 years of hard work by Apple they finally started to make a profit that got them on the top like [nike, coca colaetc.
This is NOT because Steve Jobs thought about making quality products... This is because of the IT business being an market where it is normal to make enourmous amount of money.
This is one of the very few videos you can show to Apple-haters and fanboys and make them both less hot-tempered and more moderate in their belief. What *I* take from this is: yes, Apple's refound success is significantly due to their regained marketing panache, but they also truly believed in it and their products. Who wouldn't, with such a (*slightly cringes*) magical ad?

I recall the first time a computer was good enough to allow me to concentrate on my creative work in 2006 -it was a power mac g4 .Now we are editing a film with all mac pro lap top .
Apple USED to be innovative, now they just rehash ideas but it doesnt really matter as there is such a bit market of sheep out there that are gladly going to buy Apple products, because it shows their intrinsic self of being "original" and "unique" even tho there is millions of ppl out there with the exact same Apple product
@iamjonvlog there is some debate to suggest Cows milk is not good for humans in the way that its processed today. its more to do with the processing. Look into Cows milk vs Goats milk
@krmmalik They want to outlaw plastic bags, and make all kids Godless, but these companies use Chinese 14 year old kids -slave labor- to build their products.. Ironic isn't it.Slave masters who hide behind Liberalism.
Apple's merchandise is built and sold exclusively by one company: Apple.
Microsoft is all over the place. What hardware does Microsoft make? What is the name of their laptop series? What is the name of their tablet? What is the name of their desktop series? What is the name of their smartphone?
You can't answer it. Third-party contracts are the death of Microsoft.
you think Apple make their own laptops, iPods, iPads, etc?
they're made by 3rd party companies, one of the biggest being FOXCONN in Taiwan, China.
T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, etc have their names plastered all over their phones, do you believe they make them themselves in their own factories? no, they are made by other 3rd party companies in Asia and "re-badged".
having your logo and name on the product says nothing about if you made it at your own factory.
What's even more amazing is that so many people buy into it even though the advertising is false; apple just wants to sell products, they don't actually care about the "misfits, rebels, troublemakers". It's amazing how people are willing to delude themselves.
But it's always easier when you haave a good product as a reason to delude yourself :)
You dont get it, dude. The fact is Apple changes the game all the time, push competition to a higher level. A few other companies do it as well, and Apple is one of them.
Now, Apple is the most valuable brand on the planet.
(Apple brand valued at $153 billion, scoots ahead of Google for first place -- Engadget)
(Apple Brand Value at $153 Billion Overtakes Google for Top Spot - Bloomberg)
(BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands)
Steve Jobs was, and IS always the true visionary of Apple.
By the way, this room seems to be still being used, as you can see the Apple special event on 20th October, 2010 on the preview of Mac OS X Lion, and the new MacBook Air.
Read 'No Logo' by Naomi Klein, it basically reaffirms brands > products. When people buy products they also buy into a lifestyle and as well as an identity. Eg when you go Starbucks, you don't just buy a cup of coffee, you buy into the Starbucks experience and to a certain extent the Starbucks lifestyle. The warm feeling you get when you sit in one of their stores and the illusion of a more upwardly mobile lifestyle that comes with the the privilege of paying $4 for a cup of coffee.
I feel like Jobs has become such a terrible public speaker. I dunno what happened. Still brilliant, but terrible at communication and presentation imo.
That's my point... I disagree with that. I think he used to be amazing. I think his writing is clever, like when he released the iPhone. It was a very ingenious way to reveal it "A phone. A new iPod. An internet communications device. Aphone, a new i pod, an internet communications device... Are you getting it?".
But his delivery, even then, was kinda off. And it's just gone downhill since then, imo.
There is so much more to products and services than just sales. As I customer, I feel most drawn to a company that has vision and passion rather than just a need to sell a product. Companies that want to connect with me on a deeper level than just a sale make me want to come back and to tell my friends about the product. This lecture is brilliant and raises a lot of essential issues that companies need to revisit.
I wonder what year this is? Anwyays, look at Apple now. When steve jobs returned, they were 90 days away from bankruptcy. Sun was the darling of 1990's but now they are gone.
@pb1230 Ah, Steve's a bit of a hippy.. I think they said in "Snatch" that Milk is meant for cows and our digestive system hasn't evolved to handle it... since we've only been drinking it for a few thousand years...
@pb1230 There is no scientific proof that it is, so dairy farmers are very clever with wording. In fact, many argue today that Milk is bad for you. Do a search on it.
@alby348 "here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the round pegs in the square holes" etc.; all his talk about people thinking differently changing the world. watch the 1984 apple advertisement.
now compare all that to apple's current attitude of control and censorship. i don't like a company telling me what i can and can't do with their product once i've bought it. that's why there's such a huge jailbreak community. it's not apple's place to dictate my choices/morals.

Microsoft is all over the place. What hardware does Microsoft make? What is the name of their laptop series? What is the name of their tablet? What is the name of their desktop series? What is the name of their smartphone?
You can't answer it. Third-party contracts are the death of Microsoft.
Which is why Apple is more successful.
demovidtest 8 months ago
@demovidtest
o really?
you think Apple make their own laptops, iPods, iPads, etc?
they're made by 3rd party companies, one of the biggest being FOXCONN in Taiwan, China.
T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, etc have their names plastered all over their phones, do you believe they make them themselves in their own factories? no, they are made by other 3rd party companies in Asia and "re-badged".
having your logo and name on the product says nothing about if you made it at your own factory.
p3ngwin 5 months ago
@p3ngwin -- you have zero clue.
The products are "designed" by Apple, where they are "made" is irrelevant.
It's like saying, if Harry Potter books are printed in China, rather than the UK, they are somehow different, and Asians should lay claim to them.
CarMoves 4 months ago
@CarMoves
it is you who has no clue, read his comment and why i responded:
DEMOVISTEST said "Apple's merchandise is built and sold exclusively by one company: Apple.", which is clearly not true.
where they are made is relevant, as i'm correcting him for his mistaken statement.
p3ngwin 4 months ago
@p3ngwin -- When people say "we're building a new house", they don't mean "they" are actually throwing a hammer, dummy.
Apple "designs and builds" their products -- whoever actually builds them for Apple is irrelevant.

What's even more amazing is that so many people buy into it even though the advertising is false; apple just wants to sell products, they don't actually care about the "misfits, rebels, troublemakers". It's amazing how people are willing to delude themselves.
But it's always easier when you haave a good product as a reason to delude yourself :)
demovidtest 8 months ago
@demovidtest

CharBroiled04 10 months ago
@CharBroiled04 Maybe yes, maybe no. but he's still the best speaker and deliverer of keynotes in the tech world.
Gregz0r1 9 months ago
@Gregz0r1

This lecture is brilliant and raises a lot of essential issues that companies need to revisit.

since when is milk not good for you???
pb1230 1 year ago 8
@pb1230 Ah, Steve's a bit of a hippy.. I think they said in "Snatch" that Milk is meant for cows and our digestive system hasn't evolved to handle it... since we've only been drinking it for a few thousand years...
Notice he didn't say Breast milk..
wesscoast 1 year ago
