  • i lived in Ohio rd. 4c from 2002 until the end

  • I didn't live in Butzbach but I lived in Frankfurt (72-76) and this tugs at my heart-strings as if this was my own housing area. Nice video. Thanks for posting.

  • Please thank your Dad for his Service and hope that you get to travel back in time and go for a visit.

    Hooa

  • We lived there form 88-91...thanks for posting...I hate that it looks the way that it does but the memories in my mind still are vivid and bright

  • I lived here in the early 90's when the Ayer Kaserne (The Rock) was still open. My father was stationed there at the time, actually. We moved there a few months before the borders of East and West Germany dissolved due to the whole 'Iron Curtain' deal. I have also attended Butzbach Elementary School, located right in the complex. Loved it. Thanks a bunch for posting this, I was looking for this for quite some time.

  • Great video Roadking! I was there from 68 to 71. 7th thru 9th grades. Lived at 1-D Michigan. Don Hicks.

Sascha Brazier, GHS class of '07

  • Awesome, thanks I was there from 1971-1974. We lived on Oregon across from the elementary school. Do you a picture or some film of the big sledding hill?

  • I cant remember my address on Ohio Rd. for the life of me. Does anyone have an lod map of Roman Way?

  • Grew up on Georgia street 1st floor across from the imbiss stand, you can actually see it in the Video! 1986 to 1991!

  • lived on new york road 6c 1972-1975 went to the elementary school then to giessen american high as we called it giesbach junior high

  • i am german and i'm sorry my english isn't very good. i worked in elementary school for many years as a clean lady, i grow up with the americans and when i was a child a played with many american kids on the playground. i was working in ES from 2001 till the end and i found friends , i miss the teacher from ES, it is so sad to see the housing area at this time. nobody knows what will happen to it. it is like a ghost area :-(

  • Thanks for the memories. I was there as a dependent from 74 to 76. At the end of the video you drove up Georgia Rd (I plotted out your route against a google map) and got a great shot of our old apartment (3:46, 1st floor on the very end). I could see that the bratwurst stand that was at the end of Georgia Rd on the German side is gone. Rosie ran it and Betty had the one up by the school. Rosie had the better Bratwurst, but Betty had the best pommes frites and more candy. Roy

  • As a newly married couple we lived in Roman Way. I think it was building 6525, the last building in the video by the playground. We were there from 1998-2001. It is sad to see it abandoned. I thought the Germans would move into it after all military left. Most of that housing was in excellent condition. I sure miss it. Thanks for posting this, it brought back many memories for me.

  • thanks for the reminder of what a wonderful time i had there with my ex and the kids. i loved living there. it was great reminder of all the fun and love i shared with my family there.

  • My Dad made SGM in 69, prior to him arriving in Butzbach in 68 he had just returned from his second tour in Nam. 64-65 & 67-68. Went to work for Lockheed Martin at the Cape after he retired in 75. Still lives in Florida, just outside of Cape Kennedy.

  • My father was 1SGT of C Battery 6Bn 517 Arty

a Hawk outfit behind Ayers Kaserne. Their rear

area was that multi story bldg on the left immediately behind the MP shack at Schloss Kasserne main gate. We used to work out at the gym at the time which was a little further up to the left. My parents live in El Paso,Texas which is where I am at. We left thru Rhein Main in November 67.

  • I was there 93-95 501st FSB. I miss all the fund times we had party's on the 4th of July and beer bashes after Hoenfels and Graf.

    Jeremy

  • Thank you so much for the memories. My family and I lived there from Dec 75-June 77. Two of our sons, Brent and Kenneth graduated from Frankfort High in '76. Our two other children are Roger and Holly. We were good friends with the Russells, Pete ran the AYA, later DYA, American Youth Acivities, Dependent Youth Acitivies. Jon Fields was like another son to us and he remains so, after 30 plus years. When were the gates installed? Thanks again for the visit. Wanda

  • Wanda,

Everything changed post 9/11. That's when the Gates and fences went up. Access to the housing area was limited and the world changed as we knew it. Too bad.

    Roadking

  • this is very ironic because all the time that i have been there i wanted to leave, and now that im somwhere else, i would give anything to live a day there one last time. i guess i just miss my friends thank you for giving me a chance to look back on my time at butzbach i will miss it dearly.

  • How in the world can i forget my sister Holly too. She was younger at the time and did not hang with the same crowd we did. Sorry for forgetting to mention you Sister.

  • WOW-what great memories and thank you so much for sharing this video. I lived there along with my brothers Roger and Kenny from Dec 1975 til June of 77. Hard to describe. You just had to live there with the great friends we had there. If anybody else was there then, let me know. Walked prison road many many times. Spent alot of time at the DYA. Foodland used to be right there at the end of the Y. That was my first job. Brent Harrison

  • Thank you!!! I miss my home in Butzbach so very much. That was my first home with my husband and the first home of my daughter. When you drove my the park she used to play at, I just started crying. Such sweet memories of such happy times. I would do anything to be back there now.

    THANK YOU!!!!

  • You are welcome. You know, you're just a plane flight away..........from walking the sidewalks one last time.

  • I lived at 6B Michigan Road 65-66-67 attended

Giessen Junior High and Frankfurt High. True

what you say about a plane flight away but the

memories and being there once again might be

too much. As my fathers old battery commander

said to me "those were good days".

  • 9B Michigan (bottom left) we got there just after you left. Graduated from FHS, SGM (Dad),volunteered me and I got stationed at Schloss Kaserne 70-72, Frankfurt 72-74

HoooA for those 4DM to the 1 dollar days..

  • Roasdking, I see you were in the 3rd Herd ( no

offense meant) I didn't get stationed in Germany but went to Vietnam with the rest of the helicopter pilots.

  • Yes, not like many of my classmates who went to Nam. My Mom was German, so I spoke, wrote and could read German and was fortunate to end up in Germany. Since I also graduated from High School in Germany, It was the greatest time of my life....

  • I told my parents about your visit on YouTube

and that I swear you filmed our old apartment,

I recognize where I used to cut grass and our

first floor balcony. Those were good days not

as much appreciated then as now.

  • I hear you brother, my Dad was 1SG and BLD coordinator for the 3 addresses (stairwells) on Michigan. He had me cut all the grass every weekend. 1SG Ruano was at the other end, he had 2 daughters, so I was the "volunteer" to mow the green. Give anything to go back to 1968......

  • We lived there for 5 years. Had 2 babies there and survived two deployments to Iraq. We were one of the last families to leave and cried all the way to the airport. Butzbach and all it's craziness will always be missed. Thanks for the video.

  • You're Welcome. I guess you & yours left sometime in March/April 07?

I was there as a dependant 67-69, then returned as Soldier 70-72 to Schloss Kaserne.

  • Yes we left May 2007. My godfather was actually stationed there about the same time you were, Lindy Lindbert.

  • Great,

Best wishes to you & the Tanker, we thank him for serving and you for your support during the difficult times.

  • I lived in Roman Way Village from 1995-97. My dad was in Bosnia most of the time. It is great to see some of my childhood that I never thought I would ever get a chance to see again. Building 6536. Crazy how many memories other like myself have about this place.

  • I used to live in roman way village from 2000 to 2004. I went to the elementary school. Could you tapethe school. I lived in the building across the street from inbetween the school and clinic in 4f. I think building 1644

  • Lived here from 1991 to 1994. Had a lot of good times here.

Sad to see it abandoned like this.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • I'm Trying to remember my builing Number...1602 Maybe. I know it was the fifth big building on the right going up the main drag after you past Colonel's Row.

Lived in Roman Way 1986-1987. Used to skateboard down the big hill, past the prison, and toward downtown Butzbach. So many memories.
