  • When I reboot with the flash drive in and the rEFIt menu comes up there is only 1 icon to select (the apple icon), there is no windows. Can someone please help me!

  • I'm very thankful to you. You're awesome. That's really really helpful !!!!

Thank you very much. I absolutely agree with JoslynMcFly.

Dude you are the man! Thx alot

  • Dude you are the man!

  • U reccomend Mac?

  • Where do you get the drivers?

  • it gives me the message saying that some files can't be moved when i try to down;oad the windows support

  • Will this method work for installing Win XP on a Macbook Pro with a broken optical drive?

  • swtor here i come!

  • pkerry12, How WindowsSupport give download please!

  • Its a little confusing. So doing it this way isn't the same as installing it fresh from a CD correct? Since you don't get to chose disk partition space (how much space for windows)

  • in rEFit boot i cant see my bottcamp driver only the mac os x driver pls help.

  • someone plz help where is the iso

  • I have bootcamp on my lion mac but it doesn't work

  • where is the iso file or how do you get it

  • I'm getting into the refit boot menu, but it does not show the bootcamp icon, and when i try to boot from the usb, it says that there is not partition found to boot onto. can someone help?

  • how ever i dun think this will work on the most new update of the mac os xlion, since now in boot camp they do not let u to partition ur harddisk without installing the window at the same time...... sigh..

  • Please man answer how can i make de usb with bootcamp drivers?? where can i get them?

  • @iTony2101 Hi When you run bootcamp on a Macbook Air it will give the the option to download the drivers for bootcamp when it does you simply copy them to a USB flash drive.

  • Do you need a macbook air and a usb device to make the windows 7 or 8 t omake it look like a mac/apple?

  • I did exactly as you said in ur vid and once i boot to windows i get a msg that says "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key" i've also tried to boot from a cd (from an external dvd player since my dvd drive laser appears to be dmged) and got the same msg, in cases i also got a msg "missing operating system". I also tried all of this after formatting the mac but nothing changed. I have an iMac version 10.6.8 snow leopard. Do you have any idea what can be causing this?

  • @TheFrappelicious I've had this message before. To work around it, when you first boot up, as SOON as your screen turns blue and it plays the tone (you have to be quick!) hold down the alt key. If you do it right, a window should show up asking you to choose what drive you want to boot from. If you properly installed rEFIt like he showed in the video, however, you wont need to do this. I would keep rEFIt simply for this reason.

  • How do you get the Iso file?

  • nice desktop

  • does this work on tiger?

  • @TheFrappelicious no simple fact is bootcamp only first introduced with Leopard, and every version from there of Mac OS. if you upgrade to leopard you will be able to do this.

  • If i boot into Windows it says: missing operating system. btw I'm using lion

  • guys rEFIt does actually work on lion. it has little to do with the OS X version but more the actual firmware (EFI) of your mac desktop/laptop. and i tried rEFIt does work on lion.

  • do you have to use rEFIt? or can you just use the command button?

  • @TeamFairyTailYGO and you can use this on any mac right like a macbook pro?

  • i cant get refit to work on lion... help? lol

  • @EddieLeonard17 Hi this method is for Snow leopard and leopard only DO NOT use this on Lion it will not work

  • @pkerry12 So the only way to install the bootcamp drivers on windows is to manually install it via the second USB? And BTW when you "burn" the ISO of the windows file to the USB does that make the USB useless except to install windows on computers?

  • @pkerry12 do you have a method for lion?

  • My Bootcamp also says install instead of partition, When i click install it just says: "The installer disc could not be found". Is there a way to get around that? or does anyone know where i can get an older version of boot camp assistant? Thanks!

Specs: Macbook Pro running on Lion; trying to install Win7

  • ...Have you got a cold?

  • Is it the same process for installing Windows 8 ? Are the boot camp drivers fully supported on windows 8 ?

  • what is the point of installing bootcamp on the windows 7

  • @ShreadinTheToast Simply its requried if you want windows to work properly and your Mac OS to work properly side by side, also you need bootcamp to run its installer in windows to install all the windows drivers and apple services so you can run things like icloud etc in windows. Windows user that think its not necessary need to learn that it is.

  • It doesn't say Partition when i am down selecting the size, it just says "Install" then it won't work :( HELP!!

  • @killcat30 are you using lion as your os?

  • Also, question: does rEFIt work with Windows XP?

  • Ha, I think the capital letters in "rEFIt" threw off your pronunciation. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be pronounced as "refit."

  • VERY GOOD VIDEO!!!

  • Is there a way to do this for Lion??

  • @nicklassayshi yes you can get it to work on lion. but i would not recommend you to do so. it is pretty difficult. I did it and it took me waayyy!! to long. and for lion you do need at least one disc no matter what. just to create the boot camp partion. then there is a lot of other crap you'll need to do. so just for your time sake I would just go get the disk and follow the lion boot camp instructions. but if your still wanting to go this rout let me know and Ill try to get back to you.

  • I mean the ISO

  • But how did you Extract the windows thing so it can appear into your computer i mean the ios thing how did you did that..

  • How do you get the windows support software? When i click download windows support software i get a loading bar, and then it tells me unable to download windows support software!

  • @DeutschKlasseFTW look it up in your search bar. it did the something to me, but it ended up being in some folder. so just search it and see what happens.

  • Thank you so much man..... A++ Very Clear Tutorial.. :)

  • Hi wanna ask. When i'm at window setup, my cursor can't click for selection... wonder why? Then i have to use arrow to complete my installation. But after finish, n boot again, i still can't use my cursor.

Any idea why it happen? Thanks.

  • Excellent guide, i have made my usb key with the MS tool, installed rEFIt, and when i enter bootcamp it recognizes my usb flash key as an windows installation medium (since it offers to install windows 7) but when i click next, and get to choose the sixe of my partition for windows, when i click "next, install or whatever it says" it asks me for my Windows 7 dvd.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

  • I don't have a USB flash drive... but I have a 250GB USB Hard Disk... will it work if I just partition the Hard Drive with a couple extra partitions?

  • I have a question. At about 8 minutes you get to the partitioning of the hard drive. Where yours says "partition" at the bottom mine says "install" Upon completion of the partition, the computer restarts with my windows drive in it. How do i Keep it from installing without me telling it to?

  • @TheTylerbishop do it mine also said install and i did it and its work well now

  • I can't download the Windows 7 USB download utility link :(

  • so I have installed Windows 7, now how do I switch back to OS X?????

  • How to switch between bot windows Mac is x lion and w7 with normal keyboard (not apple keyboard)

  • @pkerry12 thx a lot

  • Really great instructions, but i have only one question: why you remove rEFIt ? And is it needed ??? Thx for answer

  • @PetrKork you don't have to remove rEFit but the option was there because some people don't like to have the rEFit menu system.

  • After I formatted the partition, it said it still couldn't install for some weird reason. I'm gonna try again and write down what it says this time. It's never done that when I installed XP.

  • thx man! you explained very well!

but can you teach me how to create the "secondary flash drive" which you mentioned at 0:54

    i appreciate that!

  • Good detailed instructions EXCEPT after you download the windows dvd tool you say that first you need an ISO of the windows CD, but don't explain how to do that???

  • @adoretea yeah i need that...

  • @adoretea yeah he dint explain that part that what am Kind of like dont know how to do that thing..

  • @adoretea get an ISO from MSDN ?!?

  • @adoretea

download a program called MagicISO and use that to make an ISO image of your windows installation dvd

  • where can i get windows 7 for free???

  • I need help to make an ISO file, can you plz help me?

  • but I have only one problem , I deleted rEFIT but when I get to the standard select screen I get windows on the right and rEFIT on the left "its just the name of the MAC its not MAC HD anymore" so if i can change the name back I'll be happier :)

  • you dont have to put the drivers onto a usb, once you have put windows onto your mac just put in your mac os cd that came with your computer or if you bought snow leopard of lion its on there, just put the disc in while in windows

  • @TheJimsterJim Hi Macbook Airs doesn't have dvd drives, using the Mac OS dvd defeats the purpose of using a USB drive to do the entire installation of windows 7 from a flash drive. this is a NO DISC solution.

  • @pkerry12 Of course! sorry bout that, didnt think about that :)

  • @pkerry12 JimsterJim has a point, you can just install drivers from an external hard drive but It is impossible to install Windows 7 onto a Mac via an external optical drive (I just got off the phone with Apple Tech support who told me this).

  • Misleading info to say the least. Do a search. This functionality is all built in to bootcamp on lion.

  • @dogdutyascetic Hi this video is not meant for Mac OS Lion the date of the videos was months before Lion was even released this is for people that use Snow Leopard or Leopard.

  • @alexprietoalmanza hi watch the video it shows you.

  • @pkerry12 hello..thanks..is it necesary to install refit?, is there a combination in the keyboard for choose between both OS?

  • @alexprietoalmanza with Snow leopard it is don't know about lion I haven't tested it apparently there are ways to do this without refit using Lion.

  • What does partitioning do ?

  • @HanZehKaJin you need to partition so you can run both windows and mac OS.

  • @pkerry12 oh yea how do you put the BootCamp stuff into the other FlashDrive ?

  • @HanZehKaJin bootcamp assistant asks you if you want to download the windows bootcamp drives etc and it downloads them to a specified location in this case point to flash drive.

  • @pkerry12 Oh THX VERY MUCH =)

  • @HanZehKaJin It splits your HD. so u have for example 32gig for windows and 200 for mac! so your HD becomes two HDs

  • which windows 7 did you use, home, professional, or ultimate, and did you used 32 bit or 64 bit?

  • @92Louiss Hi I used Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

  • awsclic.com/l/1227686

Windows 7 Loader !!! working,no survey, no game anything just Windows 7 Loader v.2.0.3

  • great video ... works like charm ...

  • What size flash drives do I need?

  • @LordAdamW 4gb for windows 7

  • hi. when you get to the part where you format the bootcamp partition to NTFS, can you also delete the osx partition to get a clean windows disk, and just continue normally. or will you not be able to boot the mac if you do that?

  • @MegaCoreMagnetizer If you only want to run Windows I recommend you get a Windows PC because Boot camp will not allows you to do that, Mac's are not for you.

  • @pkerry12 Too late hehe. I've completley removed OSX and am now running win 7 ultimate 64. works great.

  • In Boot Camp 4.0.1 for MacBook Air you can create a Windows 7 install disk and boot Windows from it without rEFIt.

  • @BnSuItan you can do that with all version of bootcamp the purpose of this is to instal windows with out using old technology like dvd's

  • @pkerry12 You cant, Only the latest MacBook Air has BootCamp 4.0.1 with the ability to make install disk on your USB Flash, I checked Apple support to confirm it and i tried it my self on my iMac the latest version was 4.0 and there's no option that allow me to make install disk via BootCamp.

  • on my macbook pro gives an error, says disk not bootable. refit detects the windows usb stick bat then says that. ive got a macbook pro 2011 with 1SSD and 1 HDD.

  • Can you use an SD card if your MacBook Air has an SD card slot?

  • Can you do it on a MAcbook pro cuz i dont have a disk large enough to copy m windows file and i need to do it from a flash i have

  • you can record your screen with quicktime, you dont need screenflow.

  • erm.. did there haf others software to use without using Windows 7 USB download utility tool?? is this the only tool to make it support relft

  • @pkerry12

i had followed all the instruction and downloaded & installed

but when on screen of 08:49 windows, i only have "Install" button on my right-buttom hand side instead of "Partition", why?

kindly reply me as i was hanging there....

    many thanks

  • The selected file is not a valid ISO file. Please selected a valid ISO file and try again. It gives me this error.. =( how i fix it?

  • Where is the setup you need to install in to windows. ive managed all steps except getting the mac keyboard to work at windows

  • 01:34 XD

  • does this work on macbook pro?

  • @jackjelet haven't tested this on a macbook pro so don't know.

  • how u get the bootcamp installer to your usb? pls tell

  • @xiaoqirocks there is a directory it saves the bootcamp drivers too. I forget where though.

  • Will this work if you use an OEM copy of Windows 7?

  • This worked perfectly on my macbook air! Thanks a lot pkerry12!

  • The other day my mac mini started to refuse my windows installation disk, going to try this as soon as I can get to my windows computer. So hoping this will work :D

  • did you have to buy the windows?

  • work fine!thanks a lot

  • can you rightclick in windows on a macbook air 2011 model?

  • For all the 2011 MBA (Lion) users, there are some minor differences that you should know about:

    1. You can insert the bootable Windows 7 drive and install after partition. No need to reset as it will allow it to install from your USB.

    2. You might have to format your drive to NTFS if it doesn't allow you to install Win 7 on your bootcamp partition. Just click on the bootcamp partition and press format.

    3. Delete REfit from Search box. I couldn't find StartUpItems in Library.

  • Thank you friend! :) Great tut :)

  • Is there a problem by just keeping rEFIT? Cause I think it looks sweet when I am starting the Mac and the menu comes up, and it is so stressing to have to push the Alt button.

Thanks for a great tutorial btw, so easy to follow and finish.

  • only way to fix a MB

  • Your tutorial was very helpful! I have now Windows 7 on my Mac Mini 2011! Thank you!
