I have a Game Boy Light so I can play it in the dark. It really is a classic console, I was born in 1992 but I can see why people loved this system so much. @TheWeatherman1100 You can polish the screen with some kind of plastic polish and a microfiber cloth but I've never tried it. You can also usually find replacement screen covers even for old stuff like this.

@CaptainPoovabladoo You could try and pry the glued screen cover off... but I wouldn't try that. You'll need a tri-wing screw driver or a really small flat head you can jam in screws to get opened up, then there's a circuit board screwed onto BOTH halves of the shell. So you'll have to also uncrew the front circuit board to get the screen out and clean it from the inside.
Mario Land 1 was a bit different from other Mario titles as it wasn't developed by Shigeru Miyamoto, but rather Gunpei Yokoi's R&D1 team that developed the Gameboy. It's still fun, but not quite as 'Mario'ish as SML2.

@GregTheCreator The GBC and GBA will turn the basic 4 shades of grey into 4 basic colors also games in a black cartridge (like Zelda DX, Shadowgate) are built to take advantage of GBC colors but still work in the original.

@WasteMyTimeMakinVids i liked the ds 'avoid the newer dsi xl as theres defective batches' but what ruined it for me was the lack of games you could already get cheaper on gameboy with the old 8 and 16 bit styles that made those games great. also the lack of gb/gbc support. its all about casual gaming and generic fps these days... screw the 3ds im replacing my stolen gba sp 'and needing to buy a ps2 because sony is too goddamn cheap to do a ps2 emulator on ps3 but somehow keep dev home crap'.
When you talked about the screen and lighting, I got a flashbacks from all those roadtrips as a kid, trying to play the gameboy at night, in the light of the occasional street lamp flashing by. I beat Wario Land that way. Compared to the stuff we have to today with lighting and clearness, that feat feels impossible today almost! We sure have come a long way, but.. I'd still say that the classic gameboy is the best handheld I've had.
@TanukiKGA Haha I had to do that with the first GBA. I would be in the back seat and wedge a small flashlight between the headrest and the rest of the front seat. Have it pointing downwards a little and try to play.
Which year is realesed battery pack for GB? I have Rechargable Battery Pack 2 for original GB and i dont know which year is realesed. And i can use GBA light on original GB. I have video for both battery pack 2 and the GBA light. Check it out. BTW great review as allways.
@Kyuubi451 Well it won't take "for gameboy color only" games in the clear cases but the ones in black cases are usually for both. They just know when there in a color or an original and change the.. color!

I still have the original Game Boy I got in 1994. ^_^ And I tried it out, and it still works! The volume is so much louder than in the Game Boy Color. Too bad it's so hard to see anything! Either puke yellow green or puke black green.

@Don1Won123 Well I like the original just because it's the original BUT the pocket uses less batteries and has a clearer screen with a higher contrast that's easier to see. It does have a cheaper feel in my opinion, the smaller size isn't as comfortable to hold and the buttons don't feel quite as nice but I guess it's easier to play on with the better screen. So tough call! I say get an original eventually but for more use the pocket might be nicer because of the screen.

@Kyuubi451 Well it won't take "for gameboy color only" games in the clear cases but the ones in black cases are usually for both. They just know when there in a color or an original and change the.. color!

i just got a brick boy in japan for 10 bones, with donkey kong and tetris for a buck each. i had a ds and a psp, and i didnt like em, but i cant out this down,. i dig your collection. in japan, you can find those old systems in the shop for 10-30 bucks. you dont have a super famicom do you? i saw like a stack of them for 20 each in fukuoka.

I still have the original Game Boy I got in 1994. ^_^ And I tried it out, and it still works! The volume is so much louder than in the Game Boy Color. Too bad it's so hard to see anything! Either puke yellow green or puke black green.

question, im trying to decide between getting an original game boy and getting a game boy pocket, what do you prefer and i heard the original is better than the pocket???

@Don1Won123 Well I like the original just because it's the original BUT the pocket uses less batteries and has a clearer screen with a higher contrast that's easier to see. It does have a cheaper feel in my opinion, the smaller size isn't as comfortable to hold and the buttons don't feel quite as nice but I guess it's easier to play on with the better screen. So tough call! I say get an original eventually but for more use the pocket might be nicer because of the screen.
