  • awsome loveeee it x

  • ……. Truly magnificent … & thanks for keeping the ghost lyrics in, as I'm sure that you've heard that as a Traditional 'tis often played at wedding receptions, with the kinder, gentler non-ghost lyrics … Beautifully appointed … May you ever on make wonderful art … Cheers! ~ (•8-D

  • lovely video to go with this fantastic music.

Well done, I hope ye get bored more often :-)

  • @jonathanryan6233 Thanks for visiting! I hardly have time to be "bored" now-a-days, but when I do...I'll be makin' a few more vids, for sure!

  • i have to say the music is fantastic so haunting i have heard fergal sharky sing this and i have to say he does a fantastic version

  • WOW! This is like looking at someone who existed in this landscape many years ago and her spirit is still walking it now. Perhaps its a dream. The mystery of it makes her appear even more beautiful than she is and she is very beautiful.

  • this lady is haunting born for this vid

  • Your friend freaked me out! :D In the best possible way of course, it felt like she was looking into my soul :P

  • If nature could sing....

this is the sound it would make.

  • she has a lovely face!

  • Can you please tell me what key the tune is being played in? I play the low whistle and would love to play this tune?

  • Absolutely love this! Practically swimming in estrogen. The only male image I noticed was the point at the end. I think reaching out with palm forward would have worked better. But that's a small item and hardly noticable. Great job.

  • Hello Lyricsavvy. Your friend Mary Lademan has such a pretty smile. She seems to be a perfect choice choice for this video. I agree with Smudgynose in that Mary looks like Maggie Gyllenhall. Anyway, it's a very lovely song. Very warm and soothing.

  • @11gokey Thanks for the comment! Mary has really been shocked at how popular this video is. I'm trying to convince her to do another...we shall see!

  • Thanks everyone! Mary L. has expressed total surprise on how popular this video has been...she is grateful for all the comments, as am I!

  • Shivers through the spine

  • Nice video! Beautiful music - of course!

  • I love it

  • Eight people dislike this?

  • Written by Irishman Padraig Collum, I've heard many versions but this is the nicest, and she isn't even Irish!

  • @solsticecelt1 Words only , I think ....the song existed in earlier folk tradtion ...( Paddy Tunney) ...possibly from the Fermanagh area.

  • old travlers song and they say they dont give anthing..

  • Very special. thank you.

  • this is cool :)

  • great voice and video!!!

    thank you for sharing

  • this video changed me! i love you

  • Absolutely beautiful ! Not only the song, but the woman here. Beautiful vocals, very powerful Irish folksong.

  • Haunting! Achingly beautiful! 5/5.

If ever you get bored again, may I suggest a video to go along with Nottamun Town? I think you could make something amazing from that song as well.

  • omg lol every irish song i listen too, theres always one nut saying its not irish. ha its just funny now. how sad are these people

  • This song means a lot to me because the lyrics remind me of my ex. Especially the part about a dead love visiting in the night, it reminds me of who she used to be before a lot of things happened to her.

  • WOW!!!!

  • stunning!! the video is amazing, one of my favourite songs, its nice to see it the way i always imagined her! x

  • .... The VIdeo Artist is from Okahoma or Japan ... who knows ... but ain't from Ireland , nor have even done the research to the lyrics of the song , does anyone know when is the last time you saw snow falling in the opening scene of FAIR Day In Irleand . So you would not have caught Fair Day on your last trip around Dublin now did you .... Check it out , like the beastie boys told you to chec it out so you Really Know Wha Cha Cha want and what you'er talking about . TIN WHISTLE IS EXCELLENT !!

  • great video, ah you yanks and your love of ireland! but great video

  • Go On Ya irishim so pround im A 12 ur old dub

  • wonderfull rendition..the feeling genuine, and the voice superb..many thanks for posting

  • Truly beautiful! Well done. And you look lovely Mary!

  • This video is magnificent! So beautiful with the music. Great job!

  • best cover iv heard..and seen

  • wow,this is so beautiful,amazing work!:)

  • it great to be irish....:)

  • OMG!!I love this cover!! video is ...amazing!

  • It is as though I have been...or seen this...perhaps in a memory...or a dream...her expressions...the ivy...the sepia color is more real than the colors my eyes behold daily...time is in the memory...and my heart has relived a glimpse of...a moment...that speaks to my life...

  • What is that wind instrument that starts at 0:10??? Its so pretty! I don't know what it is.

  • It's a tin whistle.

  • Thanx! :)

  • tin whistle

  • Absolutely stunning! like those old time pictures come to life. Thank you for this.

  • OK, I'm new to this genre, so can someone, please, explain to me the imagery of "swans on the lake"? This same image is also found in "Molly Ban". Thanks!

  • ralumni :

The line is "and then she went homeward with one star awake, as the swan in the evening moves over the lake." I think it's just a poetic metaphor for her quietly gliding away, gracefully and beautifully, like a swan moves over a lake. ;-P

  • So hauntingly beautiful.....to be played at my wake.

  • amazing, gives sinead o connor a run for her money

  • It's not as traditionally Irish as you might think, having been written by the poet Padraic Colum in the 20th century. It is based on a very common theme in folk-song, that of the returning dead lover who comes back to claim his or her belovéd. The line properly is: 'With one star awake/As the swan in the evening/moves over the lake.'

  • absolutely beautiful....xxx

  • this has been one of my fav videos for ages, i think it deserves a good well done.

  • gave me chills, good ones. . .

  • Geez... just the first 30 seconds has given me "chicken skin" or "goosebumps" .... you know what i mean.

  • I love this so much, i think i av heard it before but wud not have knew what it was called.

  • This makes me think of my daughter Heather, who is 24 and does Ren Faires and designs/sells Ren Faire garb. I can see her in my mind's eye in slo mo with this song. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • This was originally a poem, written by Padraig Column about unrequited love. She is haunting him, for spurning her.

  • I think it's more than unrequited love. I think it's about achieving a united Ireland. "It will not be long now til' our wedding day" It was rebellious it's not just a love song. I think.

  • yep you're right. 'Cathleen Ni Hoolihan' is also code for Free Eire and occurs in 'love' poems by Yeats [i think...poss somebody else...] Anyway, the connection of Eire with female personifications of mysterious beasts [black swan is also code for Free Eire] is an interesting aspect of all these sad Irish 'love' songs...what is being wept for is Freedom

  • I think the same of Laggan love. I fekin love that song .....to me it's about oppression and how the oppressed dealt with it.

  • This is beautiful! Gorgeous song even if Hayley did change the words... and the girly looks like Maggie Gyllenhaal, does anyone else think? x

  • Thanks for the comment! I agree, Mary does look a little like Maggie--she'll be thrilled to hear about the comparison, I'm sure!

  • I hadn't thought of it before but you're right the resemblance is striking.

  • BRAVA! ***** :-)

  • Who is this girl?

  • Her name is Mary Lademan...she is currently working in Paris, France.

She is also one of my closest friends and former roomie at college! Thanks for asking!

  • Thank you and tell her she has a fan from a farm in Batavia NY. Some of the looks she gives in the video cut right thru ya. Great directing and production. Like a story dreamt around the campfire.

  • Yes yes, quite right. I felt like it was me that she was in love with. Which I hope was the intent, to give the viewer that illusion. I felt it. Very good job on editing, directing etc.

A fan in Salt Lake City

  • @DeltaBeav Hi Batavia! I live 40 min. east of Albany. This probably doesn't happen too often.

  • @catman605 I meant 40 min. west of Albany. Fulton County.

  • I wanted her to put the ring on her finger but it was the moon. loved it

  • ~Ryan Weslake.

  • personally i think since Sinead's version years ago, it's become too trendy to make this as ambient as possible. I think Sinead's version is still the best, but it's a first person narrative ghost story, so I love versions like Van Morrison's who put more emotion into it rather than trying to instead hit every note perfectly.

  • A truly piece of art, it sends shivers down your spine....

  • Excellent rendition, I'm Irish and I think this is one of the best versions I've heard.

  • i agree, I too am Irish and I am beginning to think that Hayley has Irish roots somewhere.

  • I think she does have Irish descent, on her mother's side

this is a wonderfully haunting song

  • Beautiful

  • I have blocked all comments from the crass "irishrogue61". I am not interested in entertaining ignorance, and hope you all enjoy our interpretation of Hayley Westenra's version of "She Moved through the Faire".

    Pax et Bonum!

  • The actress looks a lot like Maggie Gyllenhaal to me!

  • this is a great version - love the droned instruments throughout the song

best version is in the movie 'michael collins'

    check it out on youtube

  • anybody hear "the furry village" version??

  • Good work lads n lassies, liked the spooky end, not many people appreciate the tru depth in Irish slow airs Thanks for sharin the vid ,Who sung th version you used one of the truest renditions ive heard n a while!

  • This version is off Hayley Westenra's album Odyssey.

  • Beautiful!

  • Awesome :)

  • It's on my favourites and I play it most mornings as I get ready for work.

"She moves through the house with her mobile" doesn't quite have the same ring but you catch my drift!!

And look you even have Polish fans!

  • Agreed...when it comes to true music from Erin, it's best played in the spirit of the people--simple, pure and an almost melancholic contemplation...that, or with a pint in hand!

  • this is a very well sung version

  • skąd drzewo wie z której stony jest słońce, skąd drzewo wie z której strony pada deszcz?

skąd drzewo wie by wypuszczać pędy, jeszcze ?

skąd dzieje się iż rankiem słyszę ptaki?

skąd życia wnioski rozumiem jednaki, a daje niespodziany dreszcz ???

  • Dziękują za tamte piękne słowa!!

  • I think this is the best version I have heard and the girl in the vid is just perfect.

It is really atmospheric. I love the sepia tones.

  • Thanks for the comment! I'll pass your sentiments onto Mary...we're both so surprised at how many people have checked our little video out!

  • fantastic!!!

  • very great !!!!! i love it

  • i absoulutley love it remnds me ov the michael collins movie!!

i want that played as i walk down the aisle when i get married!!!

    xOx

  • when they say one star away do they mean she was close to home when she died? i am part irish and have listened to the song many times but not with the third verse. i dont get it suddenly!

  • I have heard a version sung by a male and it he replaces died love with true love in the last verse. I suppose it depends how you interprate the whole song. Whichever way, it is still a very deep and powerfully spiritual song. No matter who sings it I get goosebumps up my spine and a tear in my eye.

  • i think it was Van Morrison !

  • Then she turned homeward with one star awake,I take to mean that her spirit was going back to heaven. I think it's a song about two people who were to be married soon, but she was taken from her groom before they could marry. I was married in june and our singer sang this song before we exchanged our final vows. This is a beautiful version.

  • that's correct !!!!!!

  • Wow. What a great wedding you had. Was it a solo or did you have a music track accompaniment?

  • I had an organist/pianist

accompaniment who was classically trained. Our singer is a ballad singer with a lovely voice which did the song justice. It was a small wedding, just 45 guests, but it had a celtic theme, and a great oul day was had by all, thanks.

  • WOW!

    That was very good!

    Cheers

  • Lovely version, but the sound on the video is poor quality.

  • Ok, love the song, but the video's a bit too emo for my tastes. I know it's a dark song and all, but this is over the top.

  • EMOS THE BEST!!!!! hehe

  • HAHAHAHAA! I'll have to send this comment to Merrr...we've been labeled Emo!

We just wanted to have a bit o' fun with the interpretation of this song...a bit of tongue in cheek if you know what I mean...

    Cheers!

  • Emo?? Not in the least. Just has an old-world celtic sound and I should know; I'm both Scottish Celt and folk musician.

    Awright

    Cheers

  • I gave QuinnInuit a thumbs up just for the "emo" comment! Hilarious!! There is a certain hardcore, Blaires Witch vibe to the clip actually.

  • Is it Hayley singing?

  • Indeed, she is!

  • Ciao Bree!!!Sono Alessandra!!! Questo filmato è molto bello e molto molto rilassante...ma sei tu a cantare???Questa voce è meravigliosa!!!!!!!
