  • Are you tweaking? lol Either way, thanks for the tut!!

  • Fun video and good instruction on a classic boss nova tune. Thanks'

  • Thanks so much for this video! This is the only online tutorial to this song that is actually true to the original. The tab notations on the screen were super helpful.

  • Three stars hell, I'll give you five. This was a truly awesome gift of a truly awesome song. Thank you. Now I'll just stomp my way through it for a couple of months till it smooths out.

  • Freedom fries from now on..

  • Thanks Pal, I started with your tutorial and I has been improwing my version"girl from Ipanema" !

  • thanks a lot, it was a really great video :) i'm not playing guitar for such a long time and i'm not so practiced, but i had no problem learning this with your help ;) i just need to figure out all the rhythm stuff! :)

  • I loved this video! Entertaining and informative at my speed! Also, a great tune leaves alot to the imagination. Thanks for the tutorial! Oh, and enough with all of the whining and complaining on YouTube. Be grateful for all we have and all that these kind people give us.

  • Great video.

  • above, the street carnival band Mulheres de Chico...

  • Very nice, though I think the original is in D

    p.s. you are Italian

  • This video tutorial is great. Thank you for showing us your version, which I might add is very fun and practical to play. I appreciate your humor as well. I have no complaints for someone as cool as you are to share your knowledge and personality. I have no idea why anyone would not just figure out the obvious, not point out all the minor discrepancies and just enjoy the damn video like I did. Please don't let these social rejects discourage you from posting more tutorials.

  • Very helpful, but your jokes were so bad it made me laugh.

  • ufff, more than a full minute of waffling in the beginning ... and, btw, the first cord is something in F but not maj 7 ...

  • I learned this song not to long ago...I played and sang the song to my Brazilian friend at a party and she loved it.So glad you posted this :) Axé...

  • I met a girl a couple of weeks ago and at the end of a very nice evening...we were sitting in the car listening to ipod music and she played this. i have heard this song before but never paid it much mind. I am now leaning this to play for her. This song mixed with a couple of margaritas...I should be in her pants soon. Thanks dude.

  • 666

  • italiano eh? beh dai la gag del postino non è male...

grazie, tutorial sui generis ma mooolto utile. saluti da roma

  • i give you 3 stars. if you use this to play along to the andy williams & Antonino Carlos version you'll see your missing 4 or 5 changes.

  • @Natokowsky Thanks for your comment. I'm pretty sure I mentioned this is *my* version.

  • ''We'll take about the right hand at the end of the hole thing'' FAIL.

I could get it ear, but I think you should do the tutorial again, its a bit rough. I mean, without all the introduction, the mailman and stuff. And at the end play the hole song.

    Anyway, good job man! I.O.U.1

  • @tologueca I had a second video, but for some reason YouTube removed it.

  • I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and am very happy to see the impact of international music Enterpret very well for you!

  • GREAT, GREAT, GREAT

I have been looking for this exactly for years.

    Thanks a thousand times

  • This is exactly what a tutorial should be. A little charisma all the steps needed to play the song. Thanks, this is way better than looking at crappy tabs :)

  • wow..you're great...hope you will show us more guitar picking..thanks...it really helps...

  • Typical Postman- can't read! Man, you Rock! Love the so-called tutorial- I say that only because you are funny Man- I'm laughing a lot so, have to re-set to pick up on chords again... do we know what X means-- ha ha! You know, some don't! ... Yet. Great, wonderful presentation.. I would perhaps use different chords on bridge, but to each his own- please post more- you have made my day much happier my friend. Many blessings!

  • very good!

  • very good video!! you really help me! my problem is with the harmonys, does anyone have info that can send me???

  • What about the post man - did he again deliver the wrong mail?

  • Moitu obrigato. NO seriously, awesome. Wow I really love this. Now I've been playing guitar all my life (when ever I get a chance to play- once a month if I'm lucky) I'm always so busy, so needless to say I still play the same old songs for a long time. I love this song and saw your video. Gosh I'd love to play it, but it's very hard to learn it this way it goes too fast. Btu thank you, I hope I learn this from you.

  • mmmm its ok esta bn

no le qedo ta mal it wasnt so bad

pero miren mi video de la chika de ipanema esta mejor

look mi video of the ipanema girl it is better .........!

  • Nice preamble Simon. I liked the humor in the tutorial but for completeness maybe you should edit the chord diagrams and correct the wrong chord names. For example, the first time you show a C9 it is labeled D9 e.t.c and there are some others too.

  • but please play the whole thing!!! put everything together in another video!!! pleasa

  • Silence Pleaasee!

Very Useful thank you very much!

  • you appear to ignore the origininal at first

  • Thanks a lot! I love this song

  • your AWESOME

  • @S3xyB8ck This is a guitar LESSON, not CONCERT -- you stupid boor. Lacking patience, you will never be a true artist.

  • it's awesome !!!

    thanks man !!!

  • the postman always rings twice- when you are shooting video!

  • @epldemlc Sounds like you watched most of the video. Glad you enjoed it!

  • Ahaha, I found you hilarious. ;) More pro music please.

  • Your an Idiot...

    Really? nobody is there?

You can here keys ringing while he's talking... and he wants to make sure its a good video...

Get a pair of ears man...

    "You freaking moron!"

    Great music Video simon

  • @epldemlc who pissed in your cheerios this morning?

  • thanks dude !!!

  • Isn't the chord used at 3:02 ( x3233x ) a C9 chord?

  • @carpintero1 Yes, but some people have different names for it (I'm not sure my naming convention is right). Maybe a Csus9.

  • @SimonsMusicChannel i think he is just clarifying because in the video you have D9 written instead of C9

  • i gues that C9 is x32x33

  • Thanks you so much!

  • nice wall color

  • I like you, very charming! But sorry, I am old and pregnant, and brown, sometimes lovely...:-)

  • hahahahah what the fuck?

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • simon i want u to go search the girl from ipanema in youtube and click at the 1st search result which is astrud gilberto ~ the girl from ipanema, watch the video and u will notice that the trumpet player has almost same face as you lol omg.

  • LOOL u're right ^^

  • you mean the saxaphone player? haha yeah simon does haha! could be related, you never know!

  • drop the intro.

    get to the point

  • This video is not for you.

  • Your funny as hell!! and a good teacher. thank you

  • Also the cycle of chords during the chorus defeats the purpose of Jobim which was to use substitutes, the first major/minor cycle is Ok, but the following even though they function as major/minor is supposed to be their corresponding substitutes:

you have F#Maj7 - F#min, it should be B9 instead of the F#min, then you have AMaj7 to Amin it should be F#min7 substituting the Amaj7, and D9 substituting the Ami. and the same goes for the next couple of chords.

  • some of the chords that you are playing are not named correctly: Cdim9 implies: root, minor 3rd, diminished 5th, double flatted 7and a 9th, the chord is actually C7(b9), which is: root, minor 3rd, 5th, dominant 7th and flatted 9th.

  • I've always wanted to play this song. You made learning it easy. Thanks pal.

  • muy buena version pero hay un error de escritura el D9 que dices es C9 y el Ddim9 es Cdim9!!

  • a big thank you from italy, very good guitar player and fantastic teacher

  • Thank you so much!!! you are a geat guitar player...

  • somethings missing in the chorus

    F#maj7 - F#m7 - F#m6

    Am7 - D9 - Ddim9 ?????????

    Gm7 - C9 - Cdim9

    Fmaj7

you play it but no explanation.

    help me please

  • Iponema super song

  • me sirvio mucho.. pero creo q hay una error despues de la serie de G7/6 - G/5+ - Gm7..

    Tu (D9) es C9! y tu (Ddim9) es Cb9!

  • not necessarily the easiest lesson, but I enjoyed :-) Thanks !

    all the best

  • I found this really helpful. Thanks!

  • Excellent teaching! It makes me want to try it. Thanks! You did a great job of presenting this. It's always been one of my favorite songs.

  • guitar is a TAKAMINE G SERIES

  • Thanks Simon, been tryin for ages to figger it out!

  • Thank you very much for showing us this! I really enjoyed learning it!

    Best!

  • what's your guitar name??

  • as perfect as a lesson can be. thank you. i shall see if you do more song lessons.

  • hahah, 22x love the laughs :P

  • Beautiful song & very thoughtfully explained. Thank you!

  • Thank you for the tutorial- I've been wanting to learn this song for sometime, you explained it beautifully! p.s. I hate rudeness and profanity below, I wish they would delete that mess.

  • MrCwll, thanks for your comment. There's a lot of YouTube trolls out there that get their kicks by randomly insulting people and generating traffic to their own page. The best thing to do is ignore them.

  • That strange G7 is actually a G13. Same function, but with more color. Nice tutorial by the way.

  • Great job and thanks for the incidental laughs!

  • where's the right hand part?

  • 5 Stelle! Bravissimo!!

    1:20 2:16 2:46 3:58

  • you rock, man... =D

  • That's terrific. Great lesson. Hope you get the mail thing sorted out.

  • It wasn't a club ,it was a bar that u seat outside and have draft beer. That's what they did in the afternoons.Obrigada Livia

  • Did you not take into consideration that English is not his primary language? Give the poor guy a break ... it's a great guitar lesson.

  • I'm didn't say anything negative ,my friend .Just gave a piece of real information! I was there ,and personally saw Vinicius de Moraes and the others daily because I lived very close and was going to the beach too.The guitar lesson is very good. Why getting so defensive? No one here is attacking anyone! Chill!
