  • Yes, the masa was bought like that. It isn't considered prepared because you still have to add manteca broth and salt and additional kneading is required. You can buy it prepared with manteca and so forth. It is more expensive and not as good, My family has never made it from the dry product because there is so many places to buy already partly ready..   • I noticed that before you added all the ingredients to the masa, it already looked moist. How did you prepare it prior to the salt, manteca etc.? was it bought pre-made. Really enjoyed the video thank you

  • Hope you all give this recipe a try... I watched this video a couple months ago and was surprised to find out my fiancee lives in the same area where they make the tamales.. I contacted them and asked if they would sell us some :) My fiancee picked up two dozen last night and they are absolutely delicious!!!   • aww! makes me think of my beloved grandmother! your family reminds me of my family soo much :) ... Im learning how to make tamales right now. My grandma showed me but we are a military family and now im alone ad trying to make them alone! lol. the first time my husband and me tried the masa did not taste like nothing! -needed way more salt! lol... Just a quick question -if we find a mexiacan store that sells prepared masa, it will be ready to go? .. dumb question i know :) and im hispanic too!:)

  • Oh how precious when your sister-in-law (Tia Dora!) and mother-in-law prayed for the Lord to help her make it all come out fine and delicious! I've done that for years and still do and the Lord always blesses the food (: I looked at different websites, different youtube videos on how to make tamales and found yours to be the best.   • please! tell me how much of the ingredients to put in for a small amount of masa (about 6 cups of maseca worth), dont know how much baking powder salt, etc to put in...need for tomorrow!

  • thank you for the videos...I use to watch my granny goose make tamales as a kid and I sure do miss her she is in heaven now but I wanted to keep her tradition alive with my babygirls every xmas so with your videos I actually am not scared to attempt to make them...thanks to your mother in law as well who reminded me so much of my grandma thank you thank you

  • I am thrilled that I found your video! We made these last year following your step by step directions and our friends and family LOVED them!!!! We buy tamales in our town and know a great tamale when we taste one!! This video made us pretty popular!!!!!! These are true authentic tamales and are flippen delish!!!!! It was a great time in the kitchen with my mom, daughter, and sister!!! Plan to make it a family yearly thing! We just can't make enough to freeze since everyone keeps asking for more!

    First of all, thanks a lot for your video, we've been making Tia Dora's recipe tamales a bunch thanks to you :) but my husband and I have a question since we've followed your recipe a number of times and we've never been able to use 25 pounds of masa !!! is it really 25 pounds.... (5 bags of masa?) ...so therefore, this affects all the amounts of the ingredients for the masa....please answer !!!!

  • @marlog7822 It was bought from a corn tortilla factory. A Mexican deli might carry it too.

  • @rosettegarbanz ...How much lard for 15 pounds of prepared masa? I bought 15 lbs. of prepared masa from the local Mexican store.

  • @satxdc99 I would use about 2 1/2 lbs. of lard for 15 lbs. of masa.. :)
