they can´t know how far the planet is from that star becouse they don´t know for
sure the size of that star. their modern equpiment to look at these things are still very primtive. there is still a huge margin for error in their observations. for example
if you look at a small star with a planet close to it, a big star with a planet close to it might apear very far from that star ignoring the scale diffrential between the stars.
One of the key questions is does this planet rotate to produce a magnetic field? Without a magnetic field solar winds would sweep away the atmoshere and break down water into hydrogen which would escape into space producing a dry mars like planet void of life or a tidally locked venus.
@groundzerobuild yes there are and there are christian hypocrites there aswell. i hope the media is not there because it will speak bullcrap as usual.
man im staring to consider the thought that what we have been looking for,for so many years is in fact us....im talking about ufo's, or at least we will be!!!
wow,can you imagine we are just about the only mammals thats walk on two feet, have the ability to destroy and construct sophisticated technology...oh and when compared to other species we LOOK WEIRD AS FUK !!!
theyre using HAARP to find planets? wtf???? I thought HAARP was limited to Earth's atmosphere and surrounding gas layers, not extending billions of light years away
what? i dont understand your question. Just recently, water was found on the moon. A few months ago, water was detected on Mars. Saturn's moon Titan has oceans of liquid methane, and volcanoes that spew out water mixed with ammonia. Europa, Jupiters moon, is covered in water ice. In a few days, NASA is ramming a satellite in to the moon to more precisely figure out how much water is on it.
So there is definitely water out there.... I'm not sure if that was the question you were asking though.
i dont get it...just because they aren't super advanced aliens doesn't mean that there isn't some kind of life on a planet and just maybe they can't go out far just like us...
lol im gonna say dinosaurs in it. and beside we really can't tell what lifes in it but we are launching machine telescope cos the ground telescope can't really tell if the planet is habitable or not but i gotta say theres something down there waiting for us to be discovered
When he said theres a 1 in 10000000" chance i hope he was joking, if you look at are solar system as a modle then you see that 1 in 4 of rocky planets harbour life, if you rewind time 3 billlion years or so and look at our solar system we then see that 3 in 4 of the rocky planets harboured liquid water so its reasonable to assuem they harboured life - at least at a microbrial leval. - Good odds for one solar system when there are thousands of others out there in just out own galaxy.
yes a dude was looking for a black hole by microlensing, and he did! it took his 8 years or something but it prooves if you have enoph pacients you will do it!
Life as you know it. With just a few basic elements you can create amino acids, the building blocks of protein. But here life is water and carbon based, as carbon combines with just about anything and is easy for a star to produce. In older solar systems you might find silicon or methane based life. There are more stars in our universe than grains of sand on Earth. There's a fair chance that 10,000 Earth like planets exist and maybe some with primitive life. Options open.. :)
yes your right about the protien part. but your wrong about your chance (10,000 other earths) that you said. and yes there are ALOT of stars but lets look at a universe lets say a spiral one like ours, in every universe there is a habitable zone. heres an example, think of a cd as the universe, you see how around the hole in the middle there is a blank space. well that blank space is kinda like the habitable zone in our universe.
so because of this, alot of stars in all those universes get ruled out, and scientists have found universes and said that they can't even have a habitable zone, so that right there rules out even more stars for your "chance" correct? so what i've said basically, in mathematical terms , makes your 10,000 chance into a big fat 1.
I think you're confused between universes, galaxies and stars. There is a habitable zone for our planet round EVERY star, too close we fry, too far we freeze. There's a good chance of finding many water based planets in habitable zones around stars throughout the universe.
yeah sorry, im not a astronomer, and i know you don't have to be one to know the difference between a universe and solar systems lol. i just messed up is all
Other planets and other galaxies might have different elements in them, you never know. Just because we "think" earth is so complicated, don't mean other galaxies can be different and sustain different types of life.
hahaha these people really think they're going to find a earth like planet. did you know that there is a 1 in 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
it does look like our planet. But that doesn't mean it has the right particle and chemical mix that fit our to create life. There's only 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that there is life on another planet than our. It's fachinating that we've found another planet that looks like our but the universe is big and there's things that is way more surprising and amazing than this! :D
How can you prove that there is a very remote possibility of life on an other planet??? Could you prove it? I don't want to say that you're wrong because I can't prove it but you can't prove the opposite at the same time.
I've studied hard in my entire life so I know how life came and how planets were born and suns. So I'm almost 100 percent sure that my calculations is correct. And sure, life is amazing but there got to be something more amazing I think. ^^
... I can't believe it..... How can you say you've studied hard in your entire life... YOU'RE JUST 14!!! Come on man... You still haven't gotten to University...... You're a joke!

lol i thought you wernt religious haha what idiot. my friends do not care about religion and neither do my none jew friends. its the 21st century get over it religion is diying and your affraid of something so pathetic haha. my ignorance will cost my soul haha your off your nut!
haha what the hell is wrong with you? who is jewish in the UK goverment ... please tell me.. your totally fucked up maybe you should start believing what you hear because what you hear sometimes is true and sometimes its not true. just just fucked up. go away go be deprest about jews some place else. your off your trolly haha SATAN! haha thats funny a big red man with horns with a firy world haha good god you make me laught go away.
well im not and have no idea what your babbling about i dont believe in anything except for life and living it to the full, and i have jewish friends.. you know it might just actually be that its the truth and only idiots like you who are clearly not well who start making up crap just to get back at some because something hasnt gone right in your own world. you are just off your head saying such negative things about people, religion has distroyed the world only recovering now!.
hahaha im sorry but my gosh you really need to be put away, your not safe to walk the streets. Jews are ordinary people just they have the own beliefs just like you do. there not out to kill you or anyone you idiot were in the 21st century religion isnt the same. and satan hahaha what? satan dosnt exist that just proves your off your nut.
lol what? your off your nut if this was back in the 60's youd be put away in an asylum with a restraint jacket haha .. how will a jew murder billions? haha your off your nut.
Oh good, now we have a new planet to send the excess world population too in the future when this planet has been sucked dry by human over population.
The politicians might even use it as a prison planet to send convicts too; just like the British sent their convicts out to Australia over 200 years ago!
yeah if it's practical to send ppl to other planets. That's not realistic. At least at the moment. Traveling to the stars has been a titillating fantasy since the beginning of the 20th century, but let's put our hopes on saving this planet rather than going to another planet to just later screw it up.
Actually, newer evidence has been suggesting that within the next few decades, the technology would be perfected sufficiently that we could actually warm mars up and terraform completely. Nasa is already working on the final stages of such technology. This was covered last night on the documentary series exodus earth.
That sounds bad ass, I hope they get to do that, because we'll be starting to run dry of natural resource here on Earth in the next hundred some years.
my bags are packed, just waiting for them to find a faster route to this planet.
im taking my laptop with me.

They should really say "there extremely unlikely to support life that is similar to ours"

Studying is not enough you need to have a real proves if you want people accept your thesis!
Remember, once people believed the earth was flat and then somebody by the name Columbus proved that the Earth was round....
There could be a planet in the Universe where life's elements are differents from our planet..
