I watched that broadcast, the anchor Shepard Smith almost seemed like he was arguing that Georgia was dragging the US into the conflict, and told the mother and daughter that had to cut for a commercial but that they would come right back and let them speak more. They came back from commercial break, and Shepard Smith let them finish their comments. This attack that FoxNews cut them off and didn't let them finish is just an outright lie.

In case you're not aware, Scott McClellan was the White House Press Secretary from 2003 to 2006. As head of relations between the White House and the media, he is the most credible person on this subject.

Not they do not fear conventional reprisals, but they do fear that the goverment will choose to give broadcasting rights to another company. In Iraq and Afghanistan the goverment gave only some companies the right to cover the event there. Those chosen were those who agreed to act just like goverment wanted them to. Reprisals from the public against unpatriotic news coverage is also something that US media have to consider.

About broadcasting rights that was earlier during the occupation. Nothing points out that the Russian goverment orders the assasination of journalists. And if it would be true, no it is not the moral equivalent of the US manipulation of their own media. But the Russian methods and the Us methods yields similar results, mainstream media that does not question their own goverment. Goverment controlled media is not nessesarily bad. Swedish state television is very good at questioning our goverment.
