  • smith didnt fail any tests, but back then if u werent too greedy u could sneak short cycles in,if they covered up lewis's test results and cleared him to go to seoul then whats to say they didnt let smith take the same stuff, i mean if the testers knew they could be overpowered and made to shut up, then theyre gonna want the whole usa team to do well while thyr at it (probably would have been prepared to cover smith positive test if it were to happen, not much more effort and 3 possible medals)

  • i'm no carl lewis fan. but if he had run. he'd win this easy. like he did in the following year at the 1984 Olympics

  • @ROMPERSTOMPER21 [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about Christophe Lemaitre] already run faster (at both sprint distances] than the great Valeriy Borzov.

Indeed, the big Frenchman's personal best time for the longer sprint (200m) is the fastest ever "sea level" time by an 1C1 ("white") man. He is a very talented athlete indeed, and is living proof that the old adage: "White men can't sprint" is a load of b******s.

  • Did you spot the British long-jumper, Beverley Kinch, on the long-jump runway - right at the tail-end of that footage? (I think that I am correct in saying that Ms Kinch still holds the British long jump record - for women - which stands at 6.90 metres.)

As a matter of fact, I have the same surname as Bev Kinch, although I am not related to her.

  • @LVSWTZ Here in Great Britain, we have an old (legal) adage, which goes something like this: "A MAN (OR WOMAN) IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY."

Have you ever heard of that adage, I wonder? If you have, then clearly you have no respect for it whatsoever.

You seem to be of the opinion that about 99% of elite athletes are cheats, who use illegal performance-enhancing 'persian rugs'. Your opinion is extremely cynical - and, in my view, totally erroneous.

    Go to getalife.com

  • @TheEctomorph "You seem to be of the opinion that about 99%" OH PLEASE! DON'T BE SILLY!.........95% lol.

  • @TheAngeltoDemon [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about clean athletes]: Championships over the course of the last 24 years.

In Great Britain (my home country) there is an old legal adage, which goes something like this: "A MAN (OR WOMAN) IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY."

  • @TheEctomorph

Yeah, don't take that comment i made too seriously. I agree with you on Michael Johnson, even Bolt, it is possible. But you have to agree, some of these recent times make you wonder about the others. there is another saying that is actually more fitting....ignorance is bliss, if they are cheating, may it never come to light, because the sport needs help not a nail in the coffin. But i'm not totally against PEDs, how else are people to get faster?;)

  • @TheAngeltoDemon [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about clean athletes] more, I genuinely believe that Mr Usain Bolt - the current world record holder for both the 100 and 200m - is an athlete who has never cheated by using illegal, performance-enhancing 'persian rugs'.

In addition to the two outstanding sprinters that I have just mentioned, I would assume that there have been several more 'clean' athletes who have won Gold medals (in sprint events) at the World Athletics

  • Calvin Smith, 100% natural. Probably the last clean sprinter to win a WC gold:)

  • @TheAngeltoDemon That is a very cynical point of view, I have to say. Although steroid use is a very real problem - or perhaps i should say "issue", in these days of political correctness (!) - in the world of sprinting, I cannot believe that 'Smithy' was the last clean athlete to win an individual sprint Gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.

I firmly believe that the excellent Michael Johnson - who won the 200m at the WAC's in 1991 and '95 - was a clean athlete. What is

  • @TheAngeltoDemon and you know this for a fact?

  • @LVSWTZ If you mean Calvin Smith being clean, absolutely. Confirmed by even other world class athletics competitors who did dope. Proof of this was the fact that his physique was the same at 40 then at 20, and ran a 10.36 in a meet he entered on a whim without any training at the age of 40. He just had natural speed.

  • @TheAngeltoDemon hmmmmmmmmm maybe but but carl lewis had the same bod all the way through his career and he admitted to using drugs. bottom unless there was serious random testing we will never truly know.Calvin was a fine competitor though.

  • @LVSWTZ True. What do you think of Wallace Spearmon? I remember the days when he was with Tyson Gay and used to beat Bolt in the 200m. He seems like the posterboy for being natural.

  • @TheAngeltoDemon Calvin Smith was indeed a clean athlete throughout his long and distinguished career as a world class sprinter ... and he is a great role model for young athletes. I did not realize that, at 40 years of age, he was still capable of running the 100 in 10.36, but I must say that it doesn't particularly surprise me. He was not just a clean sprinter ... he was a very, very talented one, too.

  • There's an incredible difference between the greatest and the fastest.

  • Its ironic that anyone can take performance enhancing drugs except athletes...I say let them... under doctors supervision!!!

  • Terzo Mennea, settimo Simionato. 1983 prima edizione dei mondiali di atletica.

  • Very good video. Calvin Smith held the WR for the 100m if I'm not mistaken, but what a great run by Mennea after a bad start

  • yes indeed think it was 9.93 his record

  • mennea forever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jamaican genes have less to do with it than steroid use. Everyone knows that most black sprinters since the early 80s have used PEDs. Look at how many "world record holders" have been exposed.

  • Why do u only attack "black sprinters" as drug cheats when white sprinters were doping in the late 60s and 1970s?

U r aware that most of the Eastern Bloc sprinters were lab experiments?

Jarmila Kratochvilova, Marlies Gohr, Marita Koch, Silke Gladisch, Heike Drechsler, a young Grit Breuer and Katrin Krabbe into the 1990s were all exposed drug cheats, and coincidentally white.

  • i think its down to the fact that all the top sprinters in the world these days are black!!

  • haha, well...um, fair enough i guess

  • Thanks to roids!

  • @ROMPERSTOMPER21 Sir: In 2009 - when you typed that 'post' on this You tube discussion board - all the top sprinters in the world may well have been black. (Is one still allowed to use that word in these days of political correctness, btw?) However, during the course of the past 18 months, a sensational young white sprinter has risen to prominence in the athletics world. His name, of course, is Christophe Lemaitre, and he represents France. This guy is only 21 years of age, yet he has

  • I was disagreeing with the assertion that Jamaican genes are largely responsible for their recent dominance. Telling the truth isn't an attack, mate. By the way, I agree with you 100% about the Soviet block PED users. The use of them by anyone is a blot on the sport. I guarantee you that without them, you'd see a lot more white representation in 100M finals worldwide. We know Wells didn't dope and he was very competitive. You can't say that about a lot of recent black runners, from all over.

  • Kim Collins, the '03 World Champ, from St. Kitts is clean! Look at that guy. Doesn't lift weights and looks more like the guy who works at the concession stand than a world class sprinter, LOL. No, i do get your point. Still, I also don't believe all elite sprinters are dirty but I'm not naive either. Unfortunately, that's the climate of elite sports nowadays.

  • okay read what you have written. it was the european countries that started using PED to keep up with the Black runners. Now, you are saying without PED white sprinters would be more in abundance? don't think so.

  • @TraderJack641 "Everyone knows that most black sprinters since the early 80s have used PEDs."...???????? most athletes period are using. not just black. and clearly genes have more to do with it than drugs or the EAST GERMANS AND U.S.S.R ATHLETES! Would have produced an army of SuperFast Men over the last 50 YEARS! there NO SUBSTITUTE FOR SUPERNATRAL TALENT.......deal with......you racist!

  • Weather? I know its a pathetic excuse but think about it, Jamaica has both the weather the genes to excel. lol

(Obviously you shouldn't take my point seriously, its just an observation)

  • I would say it was Wells last year of been World Class. To put it into perspective British Athletics would be chuffed to mint balls having a sprinter today that could make both World Championship sprint finals.

  • Agreed. Standards have certainly dropped in our sprint squad. Why?

  • yeh u know it!!!! problem is, who av we got that has potential to do that..............errr no one lol!!! dwain chambers was last man of ours to get to a major final if my memory is correct!!, got no strength in depth whatsoever. too far behind the top athletes in the world now

  • not 4 nothing, but Great Britain did win gold in the 2004 Oly men's 400 relay final. Simeon Williamson BTW has had a solid year internationally. He didn't final in Berlin but should be finalist materialist by 2012. just a thought.

  • yeh its nice to win relay gold but what this country really wants is an athlete who can take on the might of america and the carribean, truth is , there aint no1, its sad!!! even our sprinters who were kickin arse at junior level have fell behind the rest of the world now stepping up to senior level. was expecting more from simeon but he ddidnt break 10secs like it was said, that is an underachievement in my book

  • it's all about cycles. if athletics is as popular in the UK as i hear, it's only a matter of time (granted i don't know how long b 4 Bolt retires) b 4 the next great emerges. Lewis was given Olympic gold in 1988 but it was 12 years b 4 the Americans got another 100 win (MoGreene). Christie won 92 and the class that came up behind him was quite impressive: Chambers*, Christian Malcolm, Julian Golding, Jason Gardener, Mark Lewis-Francis, Darren Campbell. I'm guessing the Brits will rise again!

  • wells won olympic gold in 80. then christie won gold in 92 and again in 93, then nothing for yrs. we have lacked great quality in 100m since christie! the rest of the world are moving on. yeh chambers,malcolm,lewis-francis and darren campbell were all brilliant junior champions, but didnt quite hit the pinnacle of the sport on a personal level. chambers used to hold wjr 10.06, as did lewis-francis 10.04 (he did run a 9.97 but i think wind gauge was faulty.malcolm was another top prospect in 2001

  • he ran a 20.08 in the semis at WCH but since then he hasnt really found that kind of form again! even harry aikens areety who was world junior champion bak in 2006 hasnt really made any head way at senior level yet, unlike yohan blake, who harry actually beat in that world junior final,

  • @24878281 Are forgetting about Linford Christie who came on the scene in 1984 after wells retired and would become one the top three sprinters in the 1980's behind Ben and Carl He was the 100meter 1992 Olypmpic Champion 1993 World Champion 1994 Commanwealth Champion greatest sprinter to come out of britain and europe ever.

  • @LVSWTZ

No he wasnt, Christie was a proven drugs cheat in 1995 in a competition in Germany, and that offence has tarnished every bit of his career, and to top it off he defended Dwain Chambers on his drug use saying "Leave the Dwain Chambers thing alone", and to top it off Mark Lewis Francis his pupil has been caught on offences as well, so their null and void.

Greatest Sprinters ever to come out of Great Britain are,

    1. Allan Wells

    2. John Regis

    3. Eric Liddle.

  • @Woodlander65

"Greatest Sprinters ever to come out of Great Britain are,

    1. Allan Wells 2. John Regis 3. Eric Liddle". NEVER or BARELY heard of them and not world record between them must be tea lol and CHRISTIE WAS NEVER STRIPPED of any of his Gold Medals his pockets were deeper The real world of Sport has been on Drugs since before we were born and will be after we die So stop watching or GROW UP god save the queen lol!

  • @LVSWTZ Eric Liddle was a World record holder in the 400m, he held it right up to the end of WW2, he was a man of God and of great integrity.

As for Christie-The mud sticks and he is flawed and that's how he'll be remembered.

As for the real World of Sports the USAA will know all about that when it shut ranks on Carl "Toothpaste" Lewis drugs offences before Seoul, hypocrite's, especially after Ben Johnson.

You be cool. Out of here. Good american accent havent i?

  • @Woodlander65 Some Diamonds are flawed but they still sparkle world is flawed but I don't want to leave it and you are flawed for assuming I am american lol Iam not but live next door to them and I see her royal majesty every time I go into my wallet lol The reality is that there is a level playing field and that's drugs it's a little sad but I still love sports drugs are part of it but it's not all of it talent and passion still rule.....I miss Benny Hill

  • @LVSWTZ Enjoy the Flo-Jo vid's, clean? She can be anything you want her to be LVS.

  • @LVSWTZ i am surprised you have never heard of John Regis. He was one of the most prominent sprinters in the world from the late 80's to the mid 90's. His resume consists of a bronze medal at the 1987 world champs, 1992 olympic final, silver medal at the 1993 world champs (ahead of carl lewis and mike marsh), and was the first British runner to break 20 for the 200m at 19.87. Add a european title over 200m as well as a huge string of medals in relays and you have an athlete that you should know

  • @jimmyg141 oh yeah! John Regis. I remember him.....ran pretty good for fat man lol! i'm just kidding he was good, very consistant always placed high in 200meters. he just got overshadowed in the majesty that was christie or as CBCs Geoff Gowan would call him during he's riegn as 100 meter King 1992-1994" "The Lord of the Manor" lol!

  • @LVSWTZ My word, you do have a cynical attitude, with regard to cheating and drug abuse in the sport of athletics, don't you?

I take it - from the tone of your comments - that you consider Usain Bolt to be an athlete who has used illegal, performance-enhancing 'persian rugs' (even though he has passed an inordinate number of drug tests during the course of the past 5 years).

I just wonder whether you would have the bottle to call Mr Bolt a drugs cheat to his face?!

  • @TheEctomorph yawn!
