  • We have a petition going on here... Please sign --- petitionbuzz com/petitions/homeworld3 --- so we can let everyone at Relic entertainment that we really want the Homeworld 3 title....!

Do you want to know what and/or where the Eye of Aarran leads to? I sure as hell do, sign the damn petition!

  • @Deyyhayederaned and this is what i dont feel at "today games"...(only at Mass Effect)

  • I love how much attention was payed to scientific facts in this game in order to keep it as realistic as it possibly can be in SF genre. All other space games are just pure fantasy in space without any checks and balances on feasibility in terms of physics and astronomy.

    Huge respect for this game!

  • dopey messiah stuff

  • Something ive never gotten. How did the first core allow more than 1 ship to hyperjump and create the original interstellar epoch. Second, if 1 core is somehow used to jump any number of ships, anywhere, what need or use do the 2nd and 3rd cores have, they would be redundant. Third the first core was used for 1000s of years it seems inconceivable it was not reverse engineered in that time again rendering the 2nd/3rd cores meaningless.

Last, the gate network is just a convenience? nothing more

  • @CelestialSofa

the implication i get is it didnt, the first core allowed hyperspace tech to develop from really short range to mid range, while Bentuss could go wherever it pleased allowing the Bentusi to set the stage, its implied/suggested maybe stated that the Core the Higarans had could have let them jump from Kharak to Higara in one go over 100K ly, but they chose not to, the Higarans became a problem because their core showed them how to make drives that beat everyone

  • @darkana9 No, they discovered the core, then back-drive the tech to make thier current ones, they could not replicate it exactly, but they made cheaper versions that they could engineer with thier current knowlege.

  • homeworld effect 3 Karan S'jet vesus the Reapers in the dark space.XD

  • I hawe shivers when I watching this on the end of game

  • @SmokeSriker125

You just mad cause you suck at multiplayer don't you

  • we just a a awsome MMORPG for homeworld now some thing like eve but with lilttle earth&beyond thrown it then taken to OMFG&beyond

  • @SmokeSriker125

Do you know what kind of shit you're talking?

  • @SmokeSriker125 You're just gealous the game has Nuts and you don't.

  • @SmokeSriker125 and you still play it to the end? nice job...

  • @ImperialEarthEmpire Indeed, I was quite the fool. I still had but a mere glimmer of hope that the game would recapture the same charm that struck me as I played the original, but alas it was not meant to be for this poor sequel was a disappointment.

  • @SmokeSriker125 Let me guess: you want salvage corvettes back so you can steal every enemy ship you see.

I must admit, the fleet you can build in HW1 is AMAZING if you salvage every ship and never lose anything.

  • HW3 will be epic. With the discovery of the eye of aran of whatever its called, logic tells us the universe will be much more free roam and HUGE if theres more hyperspace gates to move around with. Bring it on. I hope noone skimps on the amazing details they attended to in HW and HW2, I expect top notch narrators and insane voice acting, these games will always be the best

  • @Speekerful

    Homeworld Online?

  • @Maciejka0111 Maybe buddy. Maybe. To be honest, I still bend toward SP. MP cant compare with being the overlord of everything in space, and your the only one. MP would feel like an intrusion on my fleet mwahahaaha

  • There will be a Homeworld 3! I just knew there will be! Iam not getting my hopes down no matter what

  • Actually there is something interesting about this ending. If someone reads the script for what the original Hw2 story would have been, it begins with the Hiigarans having control of the Eye of Aran. Maybe Hw2 is actually a prequel to the original Hw2 story?

  • idea for homeworld 3 (if they ever make it). maybe something lies beyond one of the gates of the eye of arran, something that forced the progenitors to leave the galaxy and only the bentusi. so without the bentusi the higarians did not know about what lurked beyond the eye of arran, therefore unleashing it upon the galaxy, starting a new epic homeworld game

  • @MasterReasonOSR Relic said in an interview a few months (possibly a year) back that they would not forget the franchise that helped get them where they are. And your story plot is extremely plausible, seeing this actually sounds like it would be used for HW3.

  • @MasterReasonOSR i know what forced the progenitors to live. they had to go back to pegasus galaxy to fight of the wraith :P.

  • @MasterReasonOSR perhaps the new allie to replace the bentusi, the people who created the naggorok from cataclysm?

  • @mlarosa25the bad guy will probably be the T-Mat, the ones who made those planet killers. relic went into that idea but never really went into it. if you were to have an ally it would have to be the left-overs of the progenitor race. they'll teach you the secrets of hyperspace and the origins of the T-mat. would be totally epic if they did so

  • I believe Relic has rights to Homeworld. And Homeworld 2 was released in 2003.

  • the discovery of arran...u guys know what that means!!!..HOMEWORLD 3!!..lol

  • i need to rebuy this game somewhere

  • The Eye of Arran is what the Progenitors made it Eons past uniting the Galaxy (as well as others) May the Hiigarans do the same and overcome thier malice for the vayger who dare bomb Hiigara. If I was in their position I'd flip from relaspes from Kharak's destruction. the fact that Karan didnt is a kudos to her

  • Voltaire said something like: Even if there's no god, there would be the need to create one. I think the concept of the Unbound in Homeworld is somewhat similar. Karan has become a living goddess and the hope of her people, and by this was able to end all conflict in the galaxy. Maybe religion isn't such a bad thing after all if you read the instruction manual first ... :)

  • the hyperspace gate network was hidden throughout history, right? and it was on, like, infinite amount of places, right?

    then how about this:

the eye of arraan was activated with the three cores as a time machine, with that time machine, which opened a passage in time, some passer-by mothership got sent to the future, running amok in there! (F.E. the dreatnought mothership)

  • I don't remember the narrator's voice. But I could listen to him all day long. Especially with the subject at hand.

  • Leon Campbell i think was his name..

  • Campbell Lane is his name rather..

  • yeah, that's him

  • Well, both Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 confirmed the existence of extragalactic intelligence (whether or not the Naggarok was a progenitor vessel is unknown, although it wouldn't surprise me.) If there's a Homeworld 3, I imagine that the story would involve an enemy from Outside. By activating the Eye of Araan, the Hiigarans could have very well opened another can of worms...

  • @moonblaster91 I don't think the naggarok would be a progenitor vessel because they said in Cataclysm that it was pretty much a prototype from another galaxy. It wasn't a part of a fleet.

  • A loved this game but i didnt finish it and I dont think HW3 will ever come out due to a lot of stuff about rights and comapines and so on :_(

  • @SlahyX HW3 is in the making didnt you hear. Don't ask me where i would that. BTW are you stuck on a mission in HW2 or just never bothered to finish it?

  • @TheAl12345 No shortly after this I reinstalled HW2 and finished it. I got stuck on Thadas Sabah for a bit but eventualy I finished it. As for HW3 I dunno where u got the info from but I am not persuaded atm. It not that I think ur lying its just that with all the rights issues etc too many rumors have been made.

    All the best

  • @SlahyX That mission is easy how could you have trouble with it.

  • @SlahyX nodoubt and besides if there was a homeworld 3 then they would of had it out years ago because homeworld 2 was made in or released and named best game of the year in 1999 its 2010 11 years ago. we'd be lucky to hear that some one has the rights to the game.

  • @FearLancer2 dude it was made in 2003 and it took blizzard 6 years to make diablo 3 and starcraft 2

  • If i remember corectly the ship in the great dessert was just one of several exile ships probably given to them by the taidani because they were poorly maintained and equipt, thats why most of the exiles didnt make it (only those on kharak and kadesh are nown to survive) So i find it highly unlikely that such a ship carried one of the 3 legendairy hyperspace cores or that the taidan would let them keep it.

  • kingiam, you're very uninformed...

Step 1: Use spellcheck or something, jesus christ..."equipt"?

Step 2: Pay attention during the game and you'd noticed they stowed the core away on one of the ships....der.

Step 3: Google homeworld shipyards and read the back story

  • The Hiigarans (original ones) found the core when they lived on Hiigara. They then built a monster battle ship with it, and wiped the floor with the Taiidans. The Bentusi put a stop to it because it was boardering on Genoside (Bentusi had war ships then.) The Taiidan forced them all into exile, but The Hiigarans were able to hide the core on the Angel Moon and grabbed it before they left on the prison ships.

  • @iamkingiam actually the hiigarans DID indeed take their core with them into exile, in their fleets last battle the ship equiped with it (sajuuk's wrath) sets the ship on a collision course with the homeworlds moon to prevent the Bentusi from confiscating it, they then took the core from the wreck and carried it with them into exile.

  • The ending was far to clean cut. And overall the to make the HW:2 story work they had to write in radical departures from the original story and make retcons to canon just to make it work(The Hyperspace Cores)Further was the inclusion of S'jet who's only alive due to contact with the Hyperspace Cores. They could have introduced a new Fleet Commander.

In short the Develepors were sadly rushed and had to make a sub-par story and remove a lot of gameplay elements.

  • rushed? Are you kidding me? do you know anything? It was anything BUT rushed, dude. Do you know how many times they delayed the release date to make this game what it is? You only think it's rushed because you don't know the back story. Google homeworld shipyards and visit the site to read the history before you run to making illogical assumptions

  • The book i got that comes with HW1 mentions Sajuuk and some of the prophecies from 2. So the "chosen one" angle isnt a new thing at all. Thats what i love about the homeworld series, theres just soo much backstory and history that you never even get to see.

  • yes, its insane, homeworld was my first game at 7 and 8. total awesomeness

  • I thought it was an amazing game. The difficulty level was high although. At times very frustrating, but gave a good sense of accomplishment.

  • Yes, the story is amazing. Homeworld 3 is in development. I can't even imagine how it will look like.

  • You know, very few games have such a gripping story these days. I enjoy becoming engrossed in what I'm playing. I hope HW3 will be as good.

  • It is a shame.

I really loved Homeworld 1 and I liked Homeworld Cataclysm too, but Homeworld 2? I just plain dislike it.

I hate all the mythical 'crap' (my point of view, remember) they made about magical hyperdrive cores and the fact that Karan S'jet was still alive after a thousand years because of having being connected to said magical hyperdrive core.

I always had the idea that hyperdrive is a technological development every civilization can make in time. HW2 took that away.

  • Not thousand, only one hundred. In Homeworld 1 you have criogenic chambers (misson 3), so she could went into crio sleep or sort of.

For civliziaztion who can jump from one part of galaxy, to another, preservd human body in criostasis for one hundred years is peace of cake ;).

I like HW2 for more tactics, more logical unit handling, better graphic, and story. In HW you can also find very mistic "crap" - "The Garden of Khades" for example.

  • But there would be no apparent reason for her to go hibernate. She sort of did her thing, now its the future generation's turn.

Well that is how I feel anpit it/

Regarding the Garden of Kadesh, the Kadeshi mystified the nebular because they had lived in it for so long, its not as if the place really had mythical powers or something.

The hyperdrive cores now become the subject of some kind of religion and that sort of got to me.

I am not saying that the gameplay of HW2 was bad.

  • D'oh

'About' and not 'Anpit', I wish Youtube had a correction option for the comments.

  • Well (I'm just speculating), in HW1 manual it's said that Karan have discovered it neutral-interface technology, and she will be THE ONLY PERSON witch that technology would be used (I don't remeber well but S'jet even threaten that she'll destroy that tech). It was her sacrafice for Kushan\Hiigaran people to be Fleet Command.

About misticizm it's all around in Homeworld series - the music, the names, the atmosphere (like Jeawis, the Kushan are looking for home et cetera et cetera).

  • I can't recall reading in the manual that she threatened to destroy the technology, but yeah she did volunteer for the operation.

I guess I sort of had hoped that she would have had a successor, that the technology had been improved and that there are other such people out there.

I understand what you mean about mysticism, its just my own taste that I didn't like how it turned out in this case.

  • In the 4th cutscene of this, they explain that Sajuuk is "neither god, nor myth". He's a ship, from the progenitors. It's like in Halo, the forerunners and how they're deified by the Covenant.

Although, I will give you the fact that they didn't explain why there are three hyperspace cores.

  • I understand what you mean man, I just don't like the whole mythologizing of the hyperdrive technology.

Its not that I hate the idea of advanced extinct alien civilizations which remnants are present in the Homeworld universe.

The alien control ship in Homeworld 1 was a great encounter IMO, strange technology left behind after its crew have been long dead, still posing a threat to anyone coming across it.

  • Well the hyperspace cores were only mythologized until Homeworld 1, when the Kushan rediscovered their past and realized the 3 hyperspace cores were real. Once they did realize that, they knew they possessed one of them and the Bentusi the other.

It was only a matter of finding the 3rd core with Makaan did in Homeworld 2.

  • I don't think that you get what I mean, I don't like the idea of all hyperdrive technology being based on some cores provided by some mythical civilization.

I rather had it like in the original, that every civilization can invent hyperdrive on their own once their level of knowledge and technology is far enough.

  • In the original Homeworld.. the story was the exact same..

The Kushan in the first Homeworld didn't have hyperdrive technology until they found the Hyperspace Core buried in the sands of their Great Desert.

I can understand you don't like the whole idea of a lost civilization providing hyperdrive technology to the universe, but the story is the same in both Homeworld 1 and 2.

  • I know what you mean, they didn't re invent it themselves.

What I so dislike about HW2 is the whole 'chosen one' angle.

Space Opera can be fun but the whole chosen one stuff has been so done to death.

  • Well, the ship that you get near the end of Homeworld2 is called 'Sajuuk' but I don't think Sajuuk himself was just a Progenitor ship because it mentions that Sajuuk forged the three cores and it is the 3 cores that fit inside the ship. I think the ship just must've been Sajuuk's own personal ship.

  • i love this game, it makes me wonder in a millenium or so how will have man advance in the cosmos. Will we have met new civilizations, or will we be consumed by our thirst for power and wonder.

  • so lovley music at the 1:22

  • chilla. you need to use fighters and frigates to take them down. leave some to escort the MS. best I think you should use is the multi-gun corvettes

  • i really hope they make homeworld 3. make homeworld 3 and not butcher it. that will be the game I really look forward to.

  • Yeah, same here . I don't give a shit about Dawn of War 2 or Starcraft 2, but Homeworld 3 would be a game I would look forward to. Hopefully now that DoW2 is finished we will get a Homeworld 3 teaser at E3 2009. A man can dream...

  • @andreiclawhammer Still dreaming...

  • One minor quibble.

The first hyperspace core was discovered 4000 years ago.

In all that time they still havent been able to reverse engineer it and make as many as they want?.

You might respond with an analogy - its like a Caveman being handed a quad core processor and told to figure out how it works.

But that's not really appropriate. They are already extremely advanced, spare faring even. They have the technology and infrastructure to analyze and replicate the components.

  • Its in the manual and even in the game that they did reverse engineer the cores, but that they could not grasp the ability to "far-jump" or to jump to the other side of the galaxy. Their engineered versions could only do "tactical" hyperspace jumps between solar systems. The only way to jump farther is to use one of the 3 cores. Remember the 3 cores were forged by what are basically star-gods, so powerful even the peoples of this time cannot even grasp them.

  • man i never finished this game. my computer when to hell and now i don't have the serial code to reinstall the game. i got as far as being able to sick Sajuuk on the vagyr when they use the planet killing missiles. that was sweet.

  • man I wish I had 0:09 in a HUUUGE wallpaper

  • Best narrating voice EVER. Gives me chills every time I hear him. :D

  • It's a real shame Campbell Lane died :(

  • ? According to the Internetz and my Googling skills, he is still alive.

  • @cameldaniel Thats a Bentusi trader. They were a mighty powerful race

  • This makes me want to make a fan fiction!

  • Majestic Serenity, Beauty Conveyed within the stars of Infinite black such Epitomal Depiction of a Messiah to her noble people, a Strong valiant soul facing the Unknown, the crippling to the normal minded..She is Karan S'jet Sajuuk'kar...may the Winds bless her soul Seemingly Untouchable by the Corrupt and Darkminded One can only be struck in awe and wonder to this great woman.

  • *Ahem* That is taking things a little too far.

  • errm no its the truth :D

  • nah.....it's just putting it into a poetical and epic form cause after this Karan practically became God!

  • sajuuk in prgenitor = artillery frigate

they open the gate, that leads straight to a progenitor fleet...oh crap

  • i wish they made Homeworld 3

  • And maybe they will, Relic reacquired copyright for the game, they wouldn't waste money on something like that(it ain't very cheap, that's for sure) if they didn't inten to make something out of it. I assume Homeworld 3, but a Homeworld movie would be a fantastic thing(world needs a good SF movie, with a good, meaninful story, not just all exploding-world destroying films(and games, too) they make nowdays).

  • They are making it. Now. Check out video games news from 24.11.08.

  • What do you mean? What are they making now? HW3? Give us a link man, Cmon, no hints we demand links!

  • An ancient Progenitor hyperspace network? Better stay away, or who knows when those Keepers will come out again to get you >_>

  • HA HA HA....or even the Beast maybe....lets not forget that the Nagarrok was infected during hyperspace!! So for the Homeworld 3 maybe the beast will be back and with the bentusi as well (some of them fled to another galaxy during the beast crysis)!!

  • I downloaded the demo for the game....seemed less orignal designs and lack that personatily in Homeworld Cat

  • there must come a homeworld3 because homeworld 2 ending is so open!

  • wont happen the rights to are split to two competeing companies

  • Not anymore. THQ recently acquired the rights. Homeworld 3 seems possible if not coming.

  • O.o maybe but sometells me we wont see it

  • It's a wait and see.

  • Perhaps when they opened the Eye they simply opened up a new can of worms...

  • I want to see The Beast again!

  • The Beast is dead. But opening those gates could easily lead something else inside.

  • Well, not technically dead, just extinct in the HW galaxy. Afaik the logs from the Naggarok said The Beast was an organism caught in hyperspace. There might still be some of it left there, lurking for hosts.

  • hopefully

  • I wonder if the Hiigarans have ever heard off germs developing... Antibiotic Immunity ;).

  • anybody still play homeworld,cataclysm,2 online multyplayer any more?

  • i do play HW2 mulriplayer but no one is ever there -.-

  • i love the music so much, i wish the composers had made a full song including the opening music, this music and the music at the end of the credits...awesome stuff

  • hmm somekow those three hyperspace cores remind me about triforce.

  • And so the higarans come to dominate the galaxy, man i really love this game, but still im with the underdog Somtaaw!!

  • Thank you for adding this. Homeworld and all its sequels really gained legendary status over time. Just as Karan S'jet :)
