Hi danguy2009 - poor people in the developing world depend on large extended families to help scratch a living in tough conditions and to act as a support network when times are hard. The problem is that when everyone gets hit by a huge event like this those coping mechanisms get overwhelmed. There has actually been a lot of progress in places like Ethiopia in the last 20 years - but the area being hit is different from '84 and the drought very severe. Birth rates fall as wealth increases...
Sorry but youll get nothing from me apart from a packet of condoms. Why on earth would these people bring up children when conditions are like this?
I heard theres religious missionaries that convert these people to religion and we all know what goes on hand in hand with that. a ban on birth control and abortions. they are actually making the problems worse.
20 years time it will still be the same as it was 20 years ago.
Good luck with the appeal DEC. To anyone watching the appeal I would say please give what you can.
