using the same amount of air support and power as you do in the video, try playing high f with your ring finger on your right hand down. it settles the pitch.
other than that, I've not looked at this piece, first listen. Great job!
OMYGOD!!! I have to learn this piece too >.< It might possibly be my audition piece for University.... maybe.... lol. I"m still undecided on that one ;) But either way, my flute teacher wants me to learn it, and so I started working on it today and, Oh boy! I have some work cut out for me ;)
P.s. I hope I can play it as beautifully as you one day :D
Your style for this piece was perfect, absolutely perfect. Wonderful job.
Most other people try to put too much vibrato and French style into the beginning of this movement, and it always bugs the hell out of me. Great job !!
lol I know what you mean. I got to go a workshop at Rowan on this piece and the instructor mentioned how the peace is very literal and sorta laid out for you. In other words, when Hindemith wrote for you to do something in this piece you should do what he said, its not really open to be wildly interpreted like some French pieces like Concertino by Chaminade for example. This is really great playing though, great performance!
Do you know the track of Kraftwerk "Tour de France '83"? I heard it from my friend that the beginning of both tracks are the nearly same. I've ever been thinking Kraftwerk perform their original tracks only completely even if influenced by classic music a little bit. But It was broken when I listen to this....
Franchement, je trouve que le tempo est bon, cette sonate a besoin d'avancer, beaucoup le jouent trop lent et trop lourd. de plus ça permet un vrai contraste pour la partie plus "tendre". J'approuve.
Actually, I think the tempo sounds ok. I played this when I was in middle school and I think it was this fast. I could be making it up, but I'm pretty sure. Your tone is so bright on the high notes! Lovely!
Just as a friendly suggestion I would say that you maby should consider playing it a little slower. It feels a bit difficult to understand and quite hasty at times. Of course you can play it as you want, as can anybody, this is just my opinion.
But otherwise keep up the good work, it's not an easy piece to get right, but oh so beautyful! Especially the second movement.
I'm actually working on this piece myself for my upcoming exam. Sigh... But it's a pleasure to practice it!
Yeah. I performed this for a music festival and got Command Performance. It is hard to synchronize it with the piano, but it somehow seems to fit, if you get it right.
i, amongst many, believe that Hindemith is much better to play than listen to. I find his other sonatas tolerable, but for some reason, i can only play this sonata but get antsy when i hear others play it.
Painislife28: Hindemith was undoubtably a great composer, and my respect for him increased after reading the Geoffrey Skelton biography of him. Get to know his best orchestral works like the Symphonic Metamorphoses on themes by Weber, the amazing Concert Music for Strings and Brass, the Symphony in E flat (not the one in B flat for band) and the very late Organ Concerto (the big powerful one, not the one included in the 'Kammermusik' series). You might find yourself converted ...
I really how Hindemith develops his motifs...he really gives them time to breathe and evolve...they almost seem conversation to a degree...a great glorious conversational journey going through different emotional states!...he is master!...and great flute playing by the way!....
i did this solo for nyssma two days ago...very cool song.. i got a 100 for it...perfect score...u inspired me to keep practicing it... beautiful playing.. how did u get to the really high B... u probably used the "cheat".. i hope u did... are u playing it at 100?...once again... very beautiful...i hope to be as great as u someday.. im only a sophmore so i have time to practice =]
Thanx. It's arround 100, not sure... I use sometimes the "cheat" with the left trill key for the soft high B, but not in this piece. Here I made it normally. Hope you'll find your way to play this sonata.
Hey, I'm playing this for solo and ensemble! What I find hard about that piece was the two eighth notes then a whole bunch of triplets on the first page. Near the first page. And the synchopated piano part.... Getting that E right on beat one.... Took me a couple tries with the piano lol.

This is where Kraftwerk got the melody for Tour de France. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess I'm OK with it.

High B?
I pray that 1:04 is a high C and not a really sharp B. lol.
