This is such a great song. I first heard this song while taking music lessons. The teachers daughter's were playing this song on the record player. All I could hear was this song all the way home. Every time I hear this, I think of those days. I am so glad that I had this kind of music to influence me in my music.
I was in Baltimore living with my cousins when I discovered the Album this cut is on. Never forgot the Spinners. Their music hit home every single time without missing the mark of your heart. They are one of the greatest groups ever and deserve more credit that they have been given. My first experience with them was dancing to Its a shame at a youth dance in KC Mo. at a convention my parents attended. I didn't even know who they were at the time but the groove was on and I had a grand time!
This was my favorite track from the Spinners' first album for Atlantic. It's a beautiful song, and Thom Bell's pairing of Henry Famborough and Philippe Wynne for lead vocals on the tune was brilliant! It also worked really well on later material like "I'm Glad You Walked Into My Life" and "Smile, We Have Each Other."
Thanks, Sylvette! Slight confusion - my fault. Wedding Anniversary is in May, "today", I meant Valentine's Day. My fault, sorry :)
The Spinners (or, 'The Detroit Spinners' as we know them in the UK as there's a folk band called 'The Spinners') are among the many bands/artists from the '70s we enjoyed as we grew to love each other. Hard to imagine a better soundtrack for love than soul, eh? Thanks again for making this track available. :D
Bought the single ("Ghetto Child") in '73. My then girlfriend (we've now been married for 34 years) discovered the B-side one wonderful, magical, endless night when we left the arm off the radiogram and "We Belong Together" played for hours . . . .
It's become an anthem for our love, and we still play the single all the time - but especially on Valentine's Day (today) and our wedding anniversary. I hope I'm not too late, Lesley, to say that it's a perfect choice for your wedding day.
@heyerthal Bless you both so much. I wish you many more happy years, as tender and heartfelt as this song.
Sylvette, thanks so much for posting this song. It had been posted a while back, then got taken off. It's one of my favorite Spinners ballads. Now maybe you can post my other one, "Four Hands in the Fire"? ;)
EVERY TIME I HEARD SONGS OF THE 70'S I REMEMBER MY HIGH SCHOOL DAYS WITH THE SPINNERS SONGS
