Very interesting being able to compare this to the Atari 8-bit version after so many years. I had an Atari 800 and my memory was that the C64 version was better in all respects, but looking at both versions now, each has some advantages over the other. The Atari version runs faster and smoother, the C64 version has slightly more detailed graphics and it uses speech synthesis in-game (the Atari version would only shout "Ghostbusters!" during the title screen with the lyrics).
I played this Game a lot back then, the digitized Voice one can hear in the Intro was a Sensation these Days (for being used in a Videogame for the C-64).
24 Years later -> Ghostbusters Computer Game 2008: watch?v=LyVGSGynYpg
Let's see what happens in the next 24 Years! Cheers!
i had a cheat for this. i was 9 or 10 at the time. and entered my name, i think it asks for a code and i randomly typed in 0246813579 or something like that and got loads a money to buy the suped up eco. just brought back a whole lota memories lol.
I loved this game back in the day, the only frustrating thing was the marshmellow man later in the game, I used to keep catching ghosts until I had enough to unlock zuul and then just drive around looking for the marshmellow alert and hoping that you can get the bait there before he destorys the block.
@EarthwormJim55 Nope, this is about as bad as the NES one. THe nes one has better driving and catching but the stairs scene. the C64 one is impossible, crappy fixed streams and the unavoidable bankrupturing marshmellow man that can't be avoided no matter what (I put the bait down above the white building and he still walked OVER me and took the last of my money). Neither follow the movie; In the movie they are the ones who pick stay puft. In this game he just kinda exists already.
So your choice of cars was a VW beetle, the Hearse/Ambulance from the movie, a station wagon and the 'high performance' ... does that look like a Porsche 911?
I could never figure this game out well enough to beat it. This was one of the games my dad got in the shoebox full of games he bought, without an instruction booklet. Still fun though.
Never had a C64 but is it true this is better than that piece of shit for the NES?

@ooSicknesSoo It's on NTSC mode I think, it should be PAL.
BoctorPoo 1 month ago
@ooSicknesSoo
Yeah, that's cuz it's a game developed in England, so this is a PAL game optimized for ~0.985 MHz
I bet this is an american C64, and it has a frequency of ~1.022 MHz
I'm glad I'm in Germany where most games are working or fixed for PAL :-D
