See this is what racing should be like cause seriously all the racing vids on the street illegally dont really show how fast or how much time you put into the vehicle, now when you take it to the track this shows how fast and how well you know your vehicle and how well tuned. Thank you for a great video man and i appreciate your DSM and awesome vid.
@MK3JettaDude Thank you! I was trying to convey precisely that message with this channel, and I must be doing it right.
I thought I knew how to drive before I ever went to the track. Wrong. It takes time and practice to learn your equipment. There are no metrics on the street... no numbers... nothing to measure improvements to either the car or your driving ability. Without those, all there is to learn from is just consequences and meaningless bragging rights.
@stealth7769 In this video, I'm just about 500 miles into a brand new transmission here, and yeah, it was really stiff. I put a 6-puck clutch in it that seized to the input shaft in less than 700 miles. It gave me an opportunity to make a video series about DSM transmission and clutch replacement procedures.
Seriously, watch the trans & clutch video #2 and see me cut a brand new $600 clutch off the input shaft. I put a street disc back in it, and now it's smoother than it's ever been.
@skater360fletch Well apparently, if you're 6'4" (6'7" with the helmet on), have the seat all the way back, slouching so that the helmet is only pressing lightly into the headliner, reclined to get the steering wheel out of your sternum, and no room for your elbows when you hold the SIDE of the wheel, then you MUST be a ricer.
I've tried holding it in different positions and have come to the conclusion that the haters haven't a clue what they're talking about. They're clearly shorter than me.
@Jafromobile Hey, nice car dude. If I were to buy one, should my concerns of crank walking be as serious as they make it out to be? Cuz seriously it sounds horrible! and sounds like money down the drain. What do I do?
@Kizunin Many of the cars thought to be impervious to crankwalk (possibly including mine), have exhibited catastrophic failures that seem to point in the direction of "nobody is impervious to crankwalk". Driving habits, maintenance and other factors are contributors. If you find a second generation (95-99) car that has already had a 6-bolt swap done to it (more and more are getting it every day), then you can kiss those concerns goodbye. Right now I'm doing a video series on that exact swap.
@Jafromobile Thanks dude, your cool as hell jajaja awesome. If all else I can buy one in good condition, I'm looking at a 99 right now, and I can do this 6 bolt swap? DEFINITELY worth it! I have an Mr2 Turbo at the moment, but I'm moving, I wish to be able to get something as reliable as this and I am selling it, I treat my cars very well xD thanks again duude!
great vid man i have a camaro and underestimated an eclipse once off the line i was like a deer in headlights those things fucking rip off the line, keep posting
Just a quick hint. I found that if you hold your left hand at the 7oclock position and tuck your elbow into your thigh you don't wear out your arm, you have better stability in the steering and you don't look like a ricer ;)
@n0rth Yeah, I've tried that. The problem is I'm 6' 4.5" tall, and because I have to slouch with a helmet on to fit in the car, it's too close to me to be stable even with the seat all the way back. I usually hold it at about 9:30'ish and brace rest elbow on the door.
Actually, most of the runs in this video I did like that. Just the high-adrenaline passes were the ones with the V8 guys losing to a guy driving like a ricer. lol.
I don't agree with the launching off of a rev limiter being that the purpose of those are to keep you from hurting your engine and not for launching. But I love your set up's and the video's are tremendously helpful and very knowledgeable keep posting! I would just say to use the E Brake and find a perfect launching rpm for yourself/car and do it that way so that you can already be in boost and have perfect traction for your launch. You want to be setting at a "steady" rpm when launching.
@MysticIcon I'm not launching off my rev limiter, though. I'm launching off of my launch-limiter which is set to 5250 RPMs. My car's high rev limit is 8250. With a 2-stage, ignition timing limits the engine from spinning any faster, but I've got it floored with the throttle plate wide open, so it builds 12-15 PSI before I even launch. If you just go off the same RPMs at part throttle, you leave the line with vacuum pressure and still need to spool the turbo. ;)
I don't agree with the launching off of a rev limiter being that the purpose of those are to keep you from hurting your engine and not for launching. I would just say to use the E Brake and find a perfect launching rpm for yourself/car and do it that way so that you can already be in boost and have perfect traction for your launch. You want to be setting at a constant rpm when launching.
@MysticIcon Actually what made me slower than my 12.20 is all the parts I replaced since then. My 12.20 run was made without the COP setup, CDI, sheetmetal intake, or 6-puck... but it was done on a well-broken-in easy-shifting TRE stage 2.5 just like the one I have now. The one I had in this video had about 501 miles on it, the day after break-in was done.
NLTS shaved .4 off my 1/8 mile on this setup, though. It's likely to have been a huge factor in my clutch failure, though.
@NoSleepRacing It's pretty unreliable drivetrain-wise. I'm building the Colt because I'll be less likely to grenade transmissions with a chassis that's about 1000lbs lighter. But I'll keep racing and breaking this 3355lb beast until it's finished. :)
@Jafromobile Yeah I just watched you taking apart the clutch we had the same thing happen on a first gen I can see why you would want to take it easy on the shifts after that I would too lol
I like that you have flat foot shifting but you seem to be shifting slow. do those cars have slop problems cause of the cable? other thing you could try if the flat foot is throwing you off is remove your BOV you will get serge but its really not that hard on your turbo if you not running much more than 20psi if you only doing it at drags only and you will have stored boost in the charge piping for when you get back on the gas. just seems like you could improve you times with quicker shifts.
@NoSleepRacing It's a brand new transmission and clutch in this vid. I doubt I even had any more than 500 miles on it, still breaking it in. If you want to see slow shifts, watch the drag racing videos in the weeks prior to this. A bad diode was keeping me from using NLTS and it was horrible.
I'm pushing as much as 29 PSI. If I remove the BOV it's because it's being replaced with a TIAL. I hate this chattery HKS valve.
@Jafromobile I would assume making the splines on the clutch plate out of a softer material is something ACT does to make sure it is the first thing to give instead of the input shaft. Sucks you had to go though all that though.
what brand 16g are u running and supporting mods i just got a 95 talon tsi all i have is a front mount intercooler hks exhaust and a type rs bov.where can i find the dsmlink 2 step anti lag
@pickalock865 Nope! 215/55R16 V-rated NITTO 450's. Same thing I run everywhere else. They're $86 each. I wore out an expensive set of drag radials on the same wheels and it did nothing differently aside from breaking transmissions and destroying my paint. I ran the exact same 60', too.
@DJJLS05 You need a fuel system, a boost controller, help it breathe and fart a little better, and clearly by my results with a standard Big16g, you don't need very much turbo. The other stuff along the way like drivetrain parts, axles, clutches, etc... I write off to maintenance. I just use better parts than what was on there, and that helps me feel better about what it costs. Most of my mod list is in the gsx build history video, and I went 12.20 on that setup.
nice runs dude. If you really have the true "anti-lag" check box checked, I would un-check it. You really only need to use RPM hold, 6250 rpm, with it set to 8mph, should be good to go! The anti lag just damages the turbo after time... Not worth it at this power range
@thewombis thanks for the advice. Really if I blew this turbo up, it would be an excuse to upgrade it, and a neat video. I've been trying to run an 11 with a big16g, and it hasn't been happening. Now that I've literally upgraded everything else that can be, and my logs showing that I'm using the boost faster than I can make it (boost falls off with RPMs and no boost leaks), it might be the best thing to ever happen to me. 11's or break it trying. :P
Dang and the whole time i thought u always power shifted like that..Its a professional style shifting that is effective but can fuck up the transmission if u dont have the skills..Im not surprised u kickin ass with it.
@Jafromobile ya i wasn't trying to say thats its slow just letting u know what the car so you don't tell everyone you beat a kr and look dum when they say its not a kr. But congrats on the victory against it the are fast. I myself have a 03 cobra and a friend with a gt500 pushing 800whp.... things amazing but that what u get when u spend over 70 grand. HIs youtube acount is badboygt500
@redi4axion It's like Crane-style. You gotta hover over the clutch pedal without touching it. Every time before I launch, I say to myself "Daniel-san. No-Lift-To-Shift." Then I breathe. Then I catch a fly with chopsticks. Then I look at my opponent and say "go for the knee, Johnny!" Then I stage. After all that retarded mental preparation, keeping it mashed to the floor is easy.
You should try it if you've got link. It's pretty awesome.
@miogss I think it's going to take colder weather or a tail-wind. The time I ran 12.20 it was 38°. The 12.39 vs. the Corvette was around 50°. Friday's races were 86° and 100% humidity, but faster than I've run in that weather before. I want 'em pretty bad, but I think my turbo and injectors are at their limits.
gotta get that thing into second faster! and try a couple runs without lc might improve your time. your running a very small turbo it isnt necassary
