After reading Ineke's short story, this song means so much more to me! I love it!! What the two of you put together here is just too cool for words. WOW, is the best I can do.
Thank you Tom! That's a real compliment. Yes, that's what I'm aiming at when I make my videos. It's MTV and other like programs that inspired me in the first place to put a lot of effort into my videos. Some turn out better than others lol
you are killing me with these video productions!loved all the layers and the song was very trippy!early pink floyd came to mind!video at the beach was great too!
Thanks Bryan. That's probably my biggest production yet. The video was shot over a period of weeks as I had to fit it in with my daughter's busy schedule. Would have liked to have been able to shoot the beach scene on some virgin stretch of tropical beach lol. Had to settle for the pock-marked sand of a local beach.
Thank you very much for that Neil. A large part of the credit should go to my daughter though, as it was her piece of writing that inspired the lyrics. I'm quite pleased with what resulted. There was a lot of work involved in the project.
I must have missed this when it was first posted.........but glad I've seen it now. Very enjoyable and as usual well-constructed video and musical work. The lyrics are powerful and thought-provoking about problems faced by some youngsters today. All in all an excellent song.
Nice one Ferdy, great song. You have given me feedback on all of my videos, and I appreciate that so I feel I should do the same. I was very impressed by this nice contrast between verse and chorus
Thank you Sam for your comment. Yeah, I thought I'd try something different. After all the song itself is about the contrast between reality and unreality.
Thanks Jamie. I'm beginning to realise that a lot of my lyrics in the past would probably fit in the category of trivial as well. Yes the video took many hours to put together but it was a lot of fun. By the way, after hearing you play the drums today, I definitely will have to get you to play on one of my next songs.
Thank you for the constructive praise. Much appreciated! It's nice to get feedback on the technical aspects. That intro was initially just me singing a capella with normal sound. I felt the lo-fi crackly phonograph sound would be a better lead-in to the song. The guitars in the interlude were to give a happy south-of-the-border feel to it. I'm glad you liked it.
Thank you Howie for your compliment. I took up keyboard a couple of years back to supplement my overall sound. However, my skills are still pretty basic. I tend to stick mainly to sustained organ chords. Wish I could play like you, now that would be something!
Something very sad about this, but yet beautiful as well, which really touched me. Excellent production and great video. A special thanks to my friend Eric "no2hate" for sharing. Mark
Thank you Mark. My daughter wrote this in the form of a short story a few years back when she was still at high school and I was so struck by its beautiful poetic nature that I kept a copy of it. One day last year, during an uninspired moment, I remembered the story and decided to write a song based on it. The fact that the original story contained so much imagery made the process so much easier. I particularly liked the line 'the sunlight drank her tears'.
This is superb!! The video is great but I want to comment on the music. Holy crap, this is really really impressive. The whole song and all it's multitracked parts is fantastic. Really good production here. Wow, now I'm checking out your other videos, hope you got more goodies like this. Thumbs up and 5*s.
Thanks Elliott. Whilst I did put a lot of time into this particular video, most of the time went into the production of the song. I hope you like some of my other videos as well.
This is SongwriterEricJohn again...this is my other channel...I came back to sub with you and save this to my favourites. Great job!!! All of the stars. Take Care, ~Eric
Wow...you have an amazing talent as a musician and at producing music and video...you are very inspiring to me. I plan on getting a pro tools setup soon so I can record the right way. You are very original and I love that. I gave a sub and hope you sub back. Have a great weekend. ~Eric
Thank you very much, Eric. So many compliments! My audio is all pre-recorded, of course. And I'm still learning as far as the video content goes. But I'm trying. I notice that you too make an effort to create videos which are visually stimulating. They're great! I have subbed you and look forward to seeing more of your work.
Wow.... your material just gets better, and better, and better! This is amazing! The melody and vocals just makes you feel great... good job once again Ferdy!
Thank you very, very much Pete. Especially for the 'arty' comment. I don't pretend to be original, I basically try to incorporate stuff that I see and like. Part of the learning process I guess.
Thank you for that! I tried to set two different moods by using B/W and colour. The B/W represented her reality and the first beach scene was her dream of freedom. Then at the end the blending of the two was meant to represent the transition that occurs when she finally chooses the right door.
Thank you Frank. That's quite a compliment. I thought you'would probably notice the amp. A good German classic! That amp was bought in 1965 and belonged to one of the guys I was in the band with back then. We had all Echolette equipment. Two guitar amps, two bass amps and a P.A system. We also had 4 Echolette tape reverb machines. By the way the amp still works perfectly. Great sound. No, I don't have a Vox, unfortunately.

That was an awsum video, the lyrics actually mean something, the music i listen to usually dosn't mean anything or have any importance.
i'm glad i had a look.
the video that goes with the song is really good, must have taken you ages to get the editing right.
catch ya later.

Cool muffled intro and the chorus is quite catchy. The interlude after the chorus is great with the harmonized lead parts.
Thanks to Eric for the share.
