One can see where this problem stems from. In the US, health is an industry which seeks to make profit. If we socialized health care and made sure that it functioned to help people instead of make profit most of these incidents wouldn't happen. The answer isn't shutting down abortion clinics; the answer is an institutional change to the way health care is provided.

... it may very well have been the intent of the clinic to consult the lawyer and then take action once they had built the trust with the victim (and the victim was not in the room). As with everything in these sticky subjects, it just isn't so black and white. It is completely grey. I guess we just have to agree to disagree.

I just think that this is not sensitive to the psychological issues at hand.

First of all, the girl thinks that she is in a healthy sexual relationship. Which means that no counselor is going to immediately call the cops. It would be more damaging and traumatic to the victim. The best thing anyone could have done is worked to build trust with the victim and then report it at a later date. It is also important to note that this was a consultation- no procedures were performed.

If this people who work at clinics like this ever get caught for not reporting this type of incident and are nurses and or doctors they will lose their license permanently. It's the law for medical personnel because they are MANDATORY REPORTERS!!!!! I am an RN, I know and would not hesitate to report this even if it meant losing my job.

How many prosecutions have resulted? None I know of. Do you know of any?
