  • what tuning did you use on this violin???

  • @voyagermb Just the standard GDAE. I never use any other tuning.

  • @voyagermb Apologies, I just remembered that I bumped the tune up a semitone and so I play it in A. The original recording by James Bryan is in G# (I think!) which I can't play in! The tuning is still the standard GDAE

  • We just played this video for James Bryan, and he loved it.

  • @ReCombs

Thanks for doing that. Glad James approved. Love his playing but haven't been able to find any other cd's of him, just that one track off a compilation. Please say Hi to him from me and let him know he can get in touch if he wants.

  • BRILLIANT .. i just love it :).... makes you want to tap you foot and dance and prance about lol preferably with a fire blaring ... brilliant

  • how does he get that thing into the case?

  • Easy. Reason being it doesn't live in a standard fiddle case, but a 'customised' trombone case. The guy that made the fiddle thought of everything...

  • What the f*@k is that thing ! It's fantastic ! I've seen something I think called a stravile(or something like that)but that only has one string ? Great stuff!

  • He's playing a STROE or STRO FIDDLE - they were quite common many years ago. In fact I played with the late, great Irish fiddler Julia Clifford a couple of times, and she was very fond of the Stroe !

    An amazingly strong sound !!!

  • Ahhh well, now you're only half right. It's BASED on the Strohviol principle but it's not a Stroh. Stroh's have aluminium horns (or brass) This baby was made by a wonderful guy in Finalnd, called Olavi Linden and he based it on a Stroh. If you search for him here, theres a little video of him. Amazing guy. The horn of his 'Lindenstroh' is made of Kevlar. Subsequently, the tone is much more mellow and sonorous than a standard Stroh which sounds a little 'metallic' by comparison.

  • A dream-come-true: fiddle and horn, all in one!

    Well done.
