I don't think I've ever seen a shooter with this level of interactivity with backgrounds, that whole missile thing was pretty cool.

Yes, three minutes per stage, for reasons explained in the story. However, once you learn to boost, it's a piece of cake to reach the end with approx. 30 secs in exceed.

@galiant609 In every level, there is some form of impending doom on Earth or on yourself, be it giant ships, robots, missiles, explosions and the like. hence the little time you have (e.g. the exploding ship you have to escape from)

Also, you are basically going to the rescue of your girlfriend, a psionic used to power the superweapon you fight as the last boss... I won't spoil the ending.
