For Harun, you should have used the section of Richard Dawkins's lecture when he points out that the Atlas of Creation has a picture of a fishing lure labeled "Caddis Fly Larvae" in it.
That's an even better example of just how brain dead the guy is.
i'm confused did you even watch Ian Jubys videos? You should because on that very same series at the end he goes over mistakes. And it's the exact one you pointed out... I like how you needed to attack the one thing he even admitted was wrong and not anything else, interesting.
@Lacocacolaman It isn't difficult to point out things wrong with Ian's videos. Virtually everything he says is wrong, ill-informed or a damned lie. Usually his misrepresentations are ludicrous, such as when he claimed a dinosaur laid its eggs in two neat rows as it ran from the Biblical Flood. And of course there's the hilarious bit in which he claims Tyrannosaurus' teeth showed it was vegetarian. What makes that one digusting was that he was lying to children. So, in brief, f*** off.
@WildwoodClaire1 I still think it's interesting if he says so many wrong things why did you go for the one thing even he admits was wrong? I suggest you attack stuff he holds to be true. I mean you said he was wrong about something he admitted to be wrong a long time ago! just watch his series Im seriously starting to doubt that you even watched his videos... It's sad.
@Lacocacolaman "did you even watch Ian Jubys videos? You should because..."
Boy, oh boy, did you just land on the wrong side of history. And biology. And geology. And astronomy. And cosmology. And physics. And chemistry. And atomic theory. And gravity. And... Well, you get the idea.
@Lacocacolaman Are you effing serious? If you for even a -second- think that Juby only lied about / misrepresented ONE thing, then it's YOU that isn't paying any attention. In fact, based on what I just read from you, I think this is a fair assumption to make; You're a fucking moron. Go back to junior high science and stop contributing to the mass amounts of inane garbage on YouTube.
@WildwoodClaire1 Ta! He spoke here a few months back (Perth, Australia). I tried to go to his talk but wasn't allowed in. I think they clued in that I was an atheist by my "teach the controversy" Tshirt featuring a stork carrying a baby. Oddly he was ok with atheists sitting in but the church that had brought him over were scared we might ask some awkward questions and told us to boot off!
@fireflygeek His physical appearance is a bit different, but that does not keep him from being a lying fraud. Bogus mathematics by LORD Monckton, type this in the you tube search engine "Lord Monckton VS Al Gore/UN On Theory Of Global Warming" on Glenn Beck...Apparently there is a new mathematical unit in climate change unit known as "tonnes/ppm", which equates to mass over concentration is non sequitor. He is still a dishonest windbag... Cheers
This is a toughie. There's dim-and-sincere (Hovind/Taylor, WildBillForAmerica), dim-and-hate-filled (Fisher), dim-and-disingenuous (Monkton), and dim-and-rich (Yahya).
I vote for Monkton. I can't really fault anyone who's sincere; merely mock their ideas. The best thing to do with hate filled fools is to ignore them. It's hard to know what to make of Yahya, except rubberneck in a "lookit the truck-wreck!" kinda way.
My vote goes to E. Hovind/Taylor. I'm not exactly sure the extent of the damage they could be setting into motion but they need not be so busy about it nonetheless.
I'm going for Hovind simply because he claims that the bible is "scientifically accurate" then begins proving that by tossing out the scientific method. Not because I was taken in by the creationist dishonesty presented by Kent back in my religious days. It has nothing to do with this, I swear.
I think its a tossup between Brian Fisher and Eric Hovind. While Brian Fisher spews for more vitriolic hatred, I don't think his view resonate among as much among Christians as we might think. Eric Hovind, with his folksy and friendly demeanor, spreads far more ignorance than Fisher. The are both completely batshit but Hovind's ideas get far more unquestioned acknowledgment. That is way I believe he should receive the dim bulb of the year award.
I know he's high profile and doean't really need the exposure - is already kind of a posterboy for all sorts of fuckwittedness. But I honestly don't think there's a bigger douchebag in the race than Bryan Fischer. Fischer ftw, dim bulb of the year 2011. 2nd choice harun yahya just for being a muppet.
I dont see how people can choose to not vote for Monckton. I mean he is the only one with the actuall chance of influencing practical policy, the rest are just lunatics.
My head is going to explode from stupidity. Any one of the choices would make a great fit for the winner. But I have to say, I think EH and PT win. They have their own tv show. And did you hear what they said? My goodness, how their minds work, we will never know
@PifflePrattle Definitely Monckton and Harun Yayha would make excellent Bond villains. Well being English Monckton could make a sort of Q's assistant or comedy relief.
Boy howdy, Godwin's law got a real workout in this video. ;) Just 'cause I'm gay and take it more personally, my vote would have to go with Fischer. Oh, and you get a million extra kickass points for the MST3K shirt!
Choices, choices. If it were about sheer disgust, it would be Fischer. For maximum dishonesty, Monkton.
But to maximize all factors, from dim ideas and dishonesty to the maximum negative impact on the world from his well-funded propoganda media empire with the ear of much of the muslim world, the winner can only be Harun Yahya.
@WildwoodClaire1 Great video! I laughed my ass off and agree with a number or your choices. I think Brad Harrub deserves a little more attention for being king of the nitwit phonies.
ahh..the clown car rolls into center ring and they all pile out! huzzah! and..can it be?wwclaire1 is wearing an MST3K t-shirt....i'm having a moment...i need a tissue! i will contemplate the depth of errors and impact of said nominees, claire!well done!
Hi Claire I want to vote for Monckton since I think he is the best at selling his crap. I think he and his acolytes are somehow the most sinister. Thanks for the excellent vids!
That was a great group of five. I don't see why we can't just give them all an equal amount of ignominy ...after all, they are ALL just full of that smelly brown stuff instead of grey matter in their noggins. Which one do I fear the most? Which one is the most dangerously influential in the USA? Which one is making up more lies and he must know it? I guess I'd have to go with Bryan Fischer.
Claire, my vote goes to "Lord" Christopher Monkcton. He is one of the most dangerous men alive, he spreads his venomous lies with the regularity of a person with diarrhea does shit. His is an abomination of scientific knowledge that is so horrific that it's spreading across the globe with the speed of sound. I have had disagreements with people in England and other English speaking countries on a regular basis lately. His brand of charlatanism is matched only by his lying and crying of the facts
Monckton. Because I think Claire wants me to vote Monckton. Yes, I know he's not an Anti-Antichrist. But he does get a wide audience, though maybe not in the USA. As for the rabid ratebags of the fundamentalist fraternity of the USA, I add the label USA because elsewhere THEY are largely fanchisees of a USA organisation, well they use religion to dismiss science. But Monckton purports to represent science. A deliberate ACT of scientific treason more disturbing than his eyes, which are a gimmick.
@WildwoodClaire1 Ahhh I would agree with you here but only slightly. I could be out of the loop but as far as my reading goes a DDT metabolite DDE can with some populations of birds cause eggshell thinning but not in others. Also egg shell thinning in Raptors began well before the use of DDT.
@WildwoodClaire1 Has it? Perhaps in many areas or Europe and North America but lots of industrial practices have lessend their enviromental footprint with the effect of acidification of soils which is also strongly linked to egg shell thinning..I think that a number of factors are involved overall.
@fenderkid6 Basically, the treaties where a bunch of countries agreed not to use DDT was only in regard to agriculture.
Basically, the additional cost for food is a worthwhile trade-off for the environmental impact.
Saving people's lives, however, is well worth the environmental impact. (As I understand, the scale of this use also makes the impact much more palatable, and less extinction inducing.)
Eric Hovind. Describing the bible as "documentary evidence" is like being a moon hoaxer, 9/11 conspiracy theorist and flat earth believer all rolled into one. Can Al Gore be nominated for claiming he can control the weather?
Byan Fischer is my choice. Byan has a talk radio show, and his nonsense is the most dangerous, since he's more mainstream than the rest and has a sizable audience. All of your nominees have really poorly thought out arguments and beliefs and all of their opinions are harmful to the human mind surely, but Byan is a member of the American Family Association. This organization has nasty roots into our political system and misleads millions with their propaganda.
I think I'll have to go with Monckton. He has the most convincing veneer of respectability, and so I consider him the most dangerous to otherwise reasonable people who stumble upon his nonsense.
@Xalloran I will also have to pick Monckton for the exact same reason. Given the general public's understanding of basic science I think he has damaged it the most and deserves the 'Dim Bulb of the Year'..
@WildwoodClaire1 Bryan Fischer is a pretty good choice for dimbulb of the year, but part of me feels bad for voting for him, for that, because he's actually inadvertently doing some good as well. He's reminding people that Christian fanatics who want to turn the world into a theocracy exist.
Moncton is by far the worse when it comes to swapping politics in place of science. I have never heard of even one thing he has said about climate, climate change, and human-caused climate change that is correct; Potholer54 even had a challenge for anyone to point to just one thing Moncton has said that is correct. As far as I know, nobody has been able to do so.
Was it just me, or did anyone else find the first 2 minutes and 56 minutes of this video extremely depressing? I would have to vote for Lord Fuckton because he's by far the most dangerous because he has far too much completely undeserved credibility. Happy New Year Claire!
I would like to nominate Texas Governor Rick Perry as Dim Bulb of The Year. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I live in Texas because of him! But then, AronRa, whom I admire very much, he is also a big Texan, so I'm glad there are some Texans who are intellectual. Texas could stand to have more people like AronRa. Yeah! I think Rick Perry should be Dim Bulb of The Year. He's more like a dead bulb!
Although Bryan Fischer is a distasteful puddle of verbal diarrhoea, I am going to have to go with Christopher Monckton...This DB of the year or "Dirt Bag" who claims to have invented a drug that cures AIDS and MS with no physical side effects and has absolutely no training is science gets my vote.
Monkton gets my vote. The Hovinds and Hams of the world and the lesser lights in their basement hideouts can't hold a candle to the sheer brass balls of a man who claims membership in the Peerage as well as degrees he never earned when such facts are so easily verified as being false :P
"Politically Correct" - adheres to the policies and precepts of the political party in charge at any given moment. The majority view of the majority political party in a given political sphere. In particular, the conservative view of the conservative arm of the republican party in the United States of America.
I'm gonna hafta go for Mockton as well. If only for the open letter posted by the House of Lords, directing him to stop claiming to be a member, the lying little shit.
Partially because of his audience being a lot larger than just the States and second because he is a willful liar who continues to peddle his lies even after they have been pointed out to him.
Wow... I didn't realize it would be so hard! Every person that popped up I thought, "Oh, definitely that guy, nothing could beat that!" I am not sure who I think should be this year's dim bulb because all of them are morons in their own rights, but I think if we are to be true to the idea of simply being thoroughly thick (and not just a complete ass hole) then I'd have to say:
Eric Hovind and Paul Taylor.
That's just Grade A idiocy right there. The logical fail actually hurts to watch.
Eric Hovind. The man (like his dad Kent) claims to understand science, but doesn't have a clue! He holds up the bible and basically says, "This is the CONCLUSION, so now let's find the evidence that fits it!" WHAT?!?! He gets my vote for dumbass... er, I mean Dim Bulb of the year! :)
@Bot23 The level of dishonesty displayed by Eric and his ilk is mind numbing. Every talking point of his has been thoroughly debunked and has its own website "Index of Creationist Claims" @//talkoriginsdotorg/indexcc/listdothtml. They are staffed by former members of AIG, ICR and the Discovery Institute and reveal the deceitful ways that they manipulate the uneducated faith-heads. They have no shame. Liars for christ.
@Bot23 Evolution never promoted racism. Racists, in their confused, distorted minds, misused the Theory of Evolution to promote their hate. Some still do.
@yeshuahfullofit Im sure that a person must surely not understand it if they believe it promotes racism, Because from my understanding we all share a common ancestor which completely stamps on the idea of any race holding superiority over any other.
@Bot23 There is no such thing as "race". It is a human concept that has no validity in biology. What is referred to as 'race', is merely the variation that all species exhibit due to environmental pressures.
@Bot23 I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, but I was busy "roaming to and fro" at other sites and trying to fix me something to munch. The points raised in the video about"information" are addressed in the Index of Creationists Claims @CB102; CE441; CF003; CI010 and CI110. The title is misleading, the creationist defeated no one. Even if a creationist "defeats" an unprepared atheist, that does not defeat atheism. Creationism has no explanatory power.
@Bot23 What really destroys the concept of a 'superior' race of people is the question that comes out of any real understanding of how natural selection works: "Superior" in what circumstances?
@Bot23 It becomes pretty clear that racial supremacists think their racial group is superior to all others under all circumstances, which is pretty easy to demonstrate to be trivially false.
For instance, I'm white. Drop me in equatorial Africa, and give me unlimited food, water, and perfect protection from predators and diseases, but no shelter from the sun, and I'll be dead in short order from vitamin D poisoning, even if I can avoid heat stroke and sunburn.
Christopher Monckton....simply he is the most imminent danger to science and reason and honestly I think he is a criminal by all definitions of the word and should be prosecuted as such....eric hovind and others are merely dim bulbs trying support their blind faith as something more than that, Monkton is selling our planet for personal gain and that is why he should be CDBOTY.
Great choices, Claire! I vote for Bryan Fisher. All the nominees are ludicrous, dangerous and laughable to some degree but Fisher has a politcal agenda that cuts across religion, science and human rights. He seems the most damaging and the least laughable!
Harun Yahya. He is a far more respected person in the east than any of the western creatards are here. He regularly appears in the media and I've never seen him being confronted with the slightest scrutiny. If potential or actual damage to progress and civilization is a criterion, Harun Yahya gets my vote. Love how you keep doing these so dilligetly.
Oh, and for me, I think Hovind MUST be No.1 based purely on that one example you gave...
Its crystal clear that he does not care for any evidence at all, only whats in the bible...
That alone is proof that he is a corrupt, obnoxious, ignorant, stupid liar and no matter what, he will never change because he earns too much because of it.
Tough choice... good candidates. WildBill seems to be trailing the pack, so let's go ahead and rule him out. Most people outside YouTube don't really know about Eric Hovind, and outside of here I've never heard of Byan Fischer (although both are quite dim bulbs indeed). Harun Yahya definitely has a huge impact on the evolution debate, but Lord Monckton is doing more actual damage when it comes to climate change. Give it to Monckton.
I nominate Mr. Yahya. His distribution of creationist books to science teachers speaks of deep pockets and a pernicious organization. You were right not to include Harold Camping-time will soon sweep him aside. He will continue only as a comic footnote to the history of our time and a bloody good excuse for hoisting a few pints on a friend's May 21st birthday!
Haha, Hitler was a homosexual? Fuck that piece of shit! I'd gladly beat that piece of shit up for his bigotry. Hitler was straight and a chtristian! Get over it religious numb-nuts.
Harun Yahya definitely. may i make a suggestion for 2012's first dimbulb of the week? I know Onision isn't a creationist "scientist" but he sure lies like one.
@themiddleman009 How true. It is almost enough to make me unsubscribe to the RWWBlog RSS. After listening to him spout out his bigoted ignorance I wish that there was a "earwash" like there is a mouthwash to clean out the filth and bigotry that I just heard, Those who voted for others probably don't know about Fischer and the AFA.
I'm going for Monkton. Apart from his general sliminess, the immediacy of the climate change problem, and his willingness to use blatant dishonesty to muddy the waters for personal gain, makes him a clear winner in my book.
In terms of sheer damage being done, I would have to vote for Monckton. The other guys you've chosen, I can write-off as merely causing problems by their support for what I refer to as "The Willing Suspension of Intelligence"...a.k.a. Religion. Monckton, however, has been putting all of humanity and most of the organic life on this planet in the most dire peril of all, and his influence extends FAR beyond YouTube. He is, without a doubt, THE supreme justification for capital punishment.
@stromatolite775 But who are YOU voting for? I don't see your vote! Then again, I had to work my ass off just find this comment again to respond to you. I really hate that YT changed what was a very easy way of returning to previous threads. Happy New Year, R.
@AncientAtheist I am literally paralyzed with indecision. It is like discriminating between so many cowpies, roadapples, whatever. Take all of them, wrap then in tinfoil and drop them off in the middle of the atlantic.
For Harun, you should have used the section of Richard Dawkins's lecture when he points out that the Atlas of Creation has a picture of a fishing lure labeled "Caddis Fly Larvae" in it.
That's an even better example of just how brain dead the guy is.

I do believe DDT could be used to combat malaria in Africa. Why not?
fenderkid6 1 month ago
@fenderkid6 For much the same reason lead-based house paint is not longer used or manufactured.
WildwoodClaire1 1 month ago
@fenderkid6 Basically, the treaties where a bunch of countries agreed not to use DDT was only in regard to agriculture.
Basically, the additional cost for food is a worthwhile trade-off for the environmental impact.
Saving people's lives, however, is well worth the environmental impact. (As I understand, the scale of this use also makes the impact much more palatable, and less extinction inducing.)

Eric Hovind. Describing the bible as "documentary evidence" is like being a moon hoaxer, 9/11 conspiracy theorist and flat earth believer all rolled into one. Can Al Gore be nominated for claiming he can control the weather?
bddc201 1 month ago
Byan Fischer is my choice. Byan has a talk radio show, and his nonsense is the most dangerous, since he's more mainstream than the rest and has a sizable audience. All of your nominees have really poorly thought out arguments and beliefs and all of their opinions are harmful to the human mind surely, but Byan is a member of the American Family Association. This organization has nasty roots into our political system and misleads millions with their propaganda.
MrZash313 1 month ago
it's got to be "make the science fit book" Eric Hovind and Paul Taylor for dimbulbs of the year although that Bryan Fiscer bloke sounds like a prat.

I think I'll have to go with Monckton. He has the most convincing veneer of respectability, and so I consider him the most dangerous to otherwise reasonable people who stumble upon his nonsense.
Xalloran 1 month ago 2
@Xalloran I will also have to pick Monckton for the exact same reason. Given the general public's understanding of basic science I think he has damaged it the most and deserves the 'Dim Bulb of the Year'..
The others are just religious wackos.
Monckton FTW!

I'll go with Hovind. Both he and his father are dishonest assholes.

@WildwoodClaire1 Bryan Fischer is a pretty good choice for dimbulb of the year, but part of me feels bad for voting for him, for that, because he's actually inadvertently doing some good as well. He's reminding people that Christian fanatics who want to turn the world into a theocracy exist.

happy new year claire, your videos are awesome.

Although Bryan Fischer is a distasteful puddle of verbal diarrhoea, I am going to have to go with Christopher Monckton...This DB of the year or "Dirt Bag" who claims to have invented a drug that cures AIDS and MS with no physical side effects and has absolutely no training is science gets my vote.
complexadaptive 1 month ago
Monkton gets my vote. The Hovinds and Hams of the world and the lesser lights in their basement hideouts can't hold a candle to the sheer brass balls of a man who claims membership in the Peerage as well as degrees he never earned when such facts are so easily verified as being false :P

"Politically Correct" - adheres to the policies and precepts of the political party in charge at any given moment. The majority view of the majority political party in a given political sphere.
BornWithoutReligion 1 month ago
The montage of this year's winners made me smile, I had forgot about half those fools. The music was the best! LOL
Firstly, of the field Bryan Fisher must be awarded Miss Congeniality. He's such a sweetheart!
Tough choice for the winner, they all deserve it, and I wish I could give it to each of them. Ohhh how I wish I could give it to each of them. ;-)
But for the sheer audacity of his boldfaced mendacity I choose Christopher Monckton.

@Bot23 "No Answers In Genesis" is another useful site with information to combat this religious nonsense.
yeshuahfullofit 1 month ago
@yeshuahfullofit Lol one of the creationist claims I've never heard is that Evolution promotes racism, now you'd have to be an idiot to believe that.
Bot23 1 month ago
@Bot23 Evolution never promoted racism. Racists, in their confused, distorted minds, misused the Theory of Evolution to promote their hate. Some still do.
yeshuahfullofit 1 month ago
@yeshuahfullofit Im sure that a person must surely not understand it if they believe it promotes racism, Because from my understanding we all share a common ancestor which completely stamps on the idea of any race holding superiority over any other.
Bot23 1 month ago
@Bot23 There is no such thing as "race". It is a human concept that has no validity in biology. What is referred to as 'race', is merely the variation that all species exhibit due to environmental pressures.
yeshuahfullofit 1 month ago
@Bot23 One common error of the religious when it comes to understanding evolution is that they think individuals evolve. In fact, populations evolve.
yeshuahfullofit 1 month ago
@yeshuahfullofit /watch?v=4sP63mfn0gg check this one out.
Bot23 1 month ago
@Bot23 I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, but I was busy "roaming to and fro" at other sites and trying to fix me something to munch. The points raised in the video about"information" are addressed in the Index of Creationists Claims @CB102; CE441; CF003; CI010 and CI110. The title is misleading, the creationist defeated no one. Even if a creationist "defeats" an unprepared atheist, that does not defeat atheism. Creationism has no explanatory power.
yeshuahfullofit 1 month ago
@yeshuahfullofit edit: ..., that does not defeat evolution. (was in a rush).

yeshuahfullofit 1 month ago
@Bot23 What really destroys the concept of a 'superior' race of people is the question that comes out of any real understanding of how natural selection works: "Superior" in what circumstances?
evensgrey 1 month ago
@evensgrey don't ask me ask a racist person i'm not the one who believes in superiority of race. But im pretty sure that a white supremacist does.
Bot23 1 month ago
@Bot23 It becomes pretty clear that racial supremacists think their racial group is superior to all others under all circumstances, which is pretty easy to demonstrate to be trivially false.
For instance, I'm white. Drop me in equatorial Africa, and give me unlimited food, water, and perfect protection from predators and diseases, but no shelter from the sun, and I'll be dead in short order from vitamin D poisoning, even if I can avoid heat stroke and sunburn.

Harun Yahya. He is a far more respected person in the east than any of the western creatards are here. If potential or actual damage to progress and civilization is a criterion, Harun Yahya gets my vote. Love how you keep doing these so dilligetly.

Once again claire, you have made things really difficult for us.
Is there really anything between them?
We have multiple choices for sure, but its simply a question of whether we vote for Liars, ignorance, stupidity or a mixture of all 4
And have you noticed just how wealthy these creationists become by spouting this crud?
You can add corrupt in that list, cos you know its the only true thing that they are
FatRakoon 1 month ago
@FatRakoon
Ask his dad!
FatRakoon 1 month ago
