Stunningly simple and beautiful song. The sound of the 12-string acoustic is haunting, as are the sounds of David and Neil harmonizing. An underrated classic.
An overlooked diamond, I have still got my American import vinyl (with the little triangle nicked out of the corner - I live in the United Kingdom) I've loved this album for nearly forty years now, and this track especially still gives me goosebumps, thank you David Crosby.
I discovered this album after CDs came out, so I have not worn anything out but some CD players and MP3 players I have played it on. And this one is still one of my favorite pieces. Heh. First I typed "Peaces". Ironic slip there, eh? ;-)
I am listening to a live record with a gang of talent. my brother crewed on his sailboat in the sad days. my father decided to get sober, and he used to go to meetings at the alano club. (forgivive the anonimity. but he is very open about his clean/sober life now. im a santa barbara native, and have never met him. he was a vocal hero of mine since i was 12. so, david, my email adresss is stuarm2@gmail.com . i figured , what the hell, I just want to have 5 minutes to tell you. Stu.....
I agree whole heartedly, by far one of the best underrated albums,by one of the most talented and innovative, artist, musicians, and song writers, of all time. When David first handed this finished product to the record company they thought that he had lost his mind. Little did those idiots know that this was a masterpeice. Thank you David for this fine, and inspiring peice of work that I've had the pleasure of playing over and over and over again. Traction In the Rain..
Can anyone ever be any better than David Crosby? A MASTER OF HIS CRAFT---he's got it all: great voice, great music, great lyrics....EVERYTHING! Keep on keepin' on, David!!!!
I hear what you're saying rfranklin!. I bought it when it first came out and I've got the cd. sadly he never came near to this again, why I wonder but a superb album.
after all these years, i cannot believe his this song affects me the same way, in such a deep place inside of me. it make me just so very happy. it's so real.
I don't know what it is about his voice and music... it's so quietly joyful ... love traction in the rain too ... couldn't believe hearing that last year in a chill out tent at Solfest .. lovely track :))

I bought this album new in college and still have it. Have played the CD to death and never get tired of it. Love to see him in concert every chance I get.
@rfranklinw1 only 26, but my father has probably burnt and burned the same number of copies for me. CSN in Cleveland 9/14/10... 13th row center. how bout you all?
@grateful828= You are so right ! I just thank god that my parents exposed me to such wonderful music when I was younger, I'm 33 now and still never listen to music past 1979, nothing worth 2 buffalo nickles rubbed togethar past that year!!
@rfranklinw1 - Absolutely! One of my all time favorites. I went through a couple of vinyl copies myself until I recorded it on one of the first quality cassette recorders - Advent 201 - in 1974. I'm 59...
simply put, one of my favorite albums of all time. he may not have the volume of output of stills or young, but, wow, when he did something it was brilliant, sheer genius.

You really need to get a copy of The Perro Tapes. Great companion to If Only I Could Remember My Name.
