Mr. Galvan wanted to keep tradition to the Mighty Lions Band. Tolls threw it all away when he came in. my 10th grade year was the end of the MIGHY LIONS Band that we all that were there knew. The drum section didnt sound like that and the band didnt play like they do now. I know the old drum cadence. My son is head drummer there now and im teaching the drummers the old cadence and sticks. there gonna own the streets soon. Anyone want to play some drums let me know. i have old school drums.
The new band uniforms SUK ! I was a drummer my freshman thru jr year, then I made it to drum major my senior year. I miss the old drum cadence, if any of you remember the old drum cadence(early 80's) hit me up, I still remember it. Our band director was Mr. Rush followed by Mr. Galvan. And we did field shows everytime we played home games.
The band is a fraction of what is used to be! Wow! Anyhow, never thought that Tolles made such a difference while he was there...but, I guess he did. It's nice to hear some of the alterations we did to the music is still going now. Sounds decent, but nowhere close to where we were...Class of 1997! Trumpets Baby!
i hear you, i was the drum major for 1996' our director was Mr Tolles, honestly he was the only director to deliver EMHS a good bad, since he left EM the band has never sounded the same, there ok, but tolles was tough on us and clearly made EMHS proud of their high school band. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER BAND LIKE CLASS OF 96..
Damn, what El Monte high school band needs is the legendery band director, Bill Tolles. Too bad he retired in 2003. The best director of all time. He should have a statue outside the band room. lol. Well keep up the good sound. your friend Bigfernee from class of El Monte centennial, 2001.
why aren't you guys doing field shows? You know there are like hundreds of bands your size that compete in field show and some of them are really good. Your band has good potential with your new director. I go to arroyo and its nice to see that rosemead started field show now. It cant just be Arroyo, MVHS, Gabreilino, and now rosemead reping the SGV. Don't doubt your talents because then you will never succeed.
