THANK YOU! The dealer wanted to charge me about $1000 to replace the entire back panel because "they don't make just the speaker covers." THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks for making the video; it gave me the confidence to make this repair myself. Followed your video step-by-step - went like a charm. Looks great, thanks!
Hey man, I really appreciate NOT having to do the procedure (three pages) the way Toyota wanted me to do it. I would have had to remove the front bumper and the shift lever doing it their way.
To help push the "pegs" through the deck cover, I took a piece of 1/8 inch steel rod and bent one end at a 90 degree angle with the short part of the rod about 1/2 inch. Using the side of a hammer, and holding the tip of the short end against the peg, one good whack and down it went!
Great video. I used a small chisel to pop the original mounting posts off. Then drove the stubs down. Vacuuming the little pieces of plastic out was the hardest part. I put on some bass heavy music and got the little pieces as they popped up.
toyota is cheaping out on plastic interior parts more and more every year. according to reviews 2010 models are screeching and breaking right off the lot. wtf?
@indiansarecheap3 not sure why you singled me out. not sure what is wrong with my comment but im not psycho so guess i just don't see it. why don't you write something in the correct forum where you might make a difference. so you should be pissed at yourself too since here won't do a bit of good. and fuck off..!
dont know if this will help anyone but taking a battery to the leads of the speaker will cause it to pulse outwards if ++ and --, if u do it reverse the speaker pulses inwards. isnt damaging to the speaker and a quick way to determine the positive and negative leads
Oh...........and when connecting them, I didn't know the polarity on the factory speakers. But I found that the RED wire is positive, and the BLACK wire is negative. If connected reversed, the speakers would distort. I hope this helps u Toyota owners out there. I had 2 do all that just to unscrew some filthy, crappy a-- factory speakers.
@Xclibur2001 What a job man~~~ I would never think changing the speakers would be that involved. You think they could make stuff easier so you can do more things yourself like cars back in the old days. Old cars were like legos haha So easy to take apart, modify, customize, and put back together
@niggataytay300zx Nah nissan is another example. I changed the radio and front speakers of a 2001 Xterra and I almost had to guess or do some experiments with the wires. Still came out pretty good.
seats after I pulled them down. 2 remove clips, you are going 2 need upholstery and trim removal tools. U can get them at your local auto store or at Harbor Freight. I also found that the Aftermarket Pioneers didn't fit the factory hole. I had 2 use the factory speakers as templates 2 make custom wooden adapters 4 the aftermarket speakers. I have 2 say, they worked quite well. (cont->)
Those Plastic Toyota Grills are melted to the rear cardboard decking from the legs. The melted plastic legs act as rivets. I put some Pioneer Aftermarket 6x9's into my mother's 02 Toyota Camry, to replace the flimsy factory speakers that were making ugly noises. Man............I gotta tell you!! Doing this is a pain in the rear if you live in South Texas. I had to pull off the side seat cushions, remove the side rear curtain airbag cover's and detach clips and plastics behind the (cont->)
@un10cked I can try not put a video together for the fronts but I mainly did the rear speakers since they had to be replaced from old age. I will check out my moms front speakers and if they need replacing... Ill replace them and make a nice follow along video=] Take care
@Niggataytay300zx Thanks for the great Vid man! Just wanted to say Good Job And great Quality! I have an 05 camry and mine are cracked and broke also this vid is very helpful! Thanks again bro!!!
I appreciate this. I'm no car lady but I was able to do this. Getting those plugs out is challenging. Now if there were an easy way to change out the radio/CD player to one that plays MP3s. That is also one piece.
@MrSCABIES Same with mine. It takes some strength to pull them out. Don't worry. You can drill out any remaining plastic left in the holes if broken off,
That's a great video... The toughest part of the whole ordeal was getting the old speakers covers to pop out. The non-disintegrating sides don't break easily but once you get it to break, it's easy removal. Thanks.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. It's obvious that it's part defect! It's ok to have some defect part like this. But it's not ok for car manufactors for take responsibility!
It always erks me when auto makers can just put a removable panel like the ones on my old Honda Van 03' that was so easy. I have a Civic now and I can't find any video on how to replace them.
@1thess523 I agree.... Sometimes changing speakers or headlights on cars nowadays is frustrating and very time consuming. I had to change my buddies headlights in his 05 nissan altima and to do that, I had to remove the front wheels, wheel well guards, and carefully reach up through the frame.. What year civic and model is yours? I'll try to search and find a write-up on speaker replacement.. Cheers
hey thanks alot for the reply, I got it done this weekened and it wasn't to bad. I found another video that showed how to remove the front door and it was pretty easy as long as you get all the screws out, the back speaker were done kind of ghetto to begin with when i bought it so I just kept the same locations just changed the speakers and it works just fine. thanks for trying though. by the way it's an 02' Civic Sedan.
Don't even try to get into where the speaker legs are burnt, you will have to take off the whole back board before you can reach where these legs are burnt (palstic to plastic).
That is exactly what happened to the 2 speaker grills on my wifes Camry 2005. Toyota should made it easy to replace these craps, they use sun sensitive parts to the sun exposed area of the car. They burnt the legs to the base board so it will be hard to replace, dealer tried to rip me off $80 labor fee. I did the same thing you did but I glued it on mine. Thanks for the video, it will help a lot of Camry owners, they too have the same sun untolerant speaker grills to replace soon.
I agree. My mom has never talked badly about the camry until this haha I think Toyota should have free replacement of the back speakers since so many people run into this problem. When my mom said they wanted 200-300 for the job, I laughed and told her to let me take over =]
Thank you for making this video. It helped and now my wife's car speaker covers look good. Keep up the good work.
