Dry Brushing is a great technique and you've done well there to replicate worn metal on that gun. I believe there are varying degrees of dry brushing. Like on a German grey tank for example, i would apply much less paint so that there is a fine line thus reducing "over-paint" into the other areas which would make the model messy. But i love what you've done!
the hand and other examples actually showed up rather well even with a webcam. Thanks for helping me explain what dry brushing is to a friend that's never done any painting like this before!
man, if i do straight build and panel lining and adding some decals, can i do this immediately without spray painting or airbrushing?? pls. reply i'm new to this hobby.
dayum. thats pretty boss man. I've been dieing to do this to my 1:144 GN-X custom. But the metal under it's paint is a gold alloy for emergency atmospheric re-entry. so i got ta weather it in gold lol. And yes, i give my custom gundams back stories. if any one haz an issue wif it, plz contact the complaint department at 1-800-go touch your self. still, 5/5 on the boss scale for your weathering.
easy to uderstand. and you dropped the gun at 5:39 hahaha.
TIP: when mixing paint add a SMALL marble into the paint bottle it will help it mix better. CAUTION! don't add little metal objects to substitube marbles this will destroy your paint.
really good job man seeing you i learned how to dry brush and I did the weathering for my model aeroplane: a supermarine spitfire, for the inside part of the fuselage..
Thanks for the advice, been wanting to try weathering my models but cant get the technique down. Noticed that FF7 poster (not wall scroll) on your wall, never seen that one before and my buddy is an avid collector, where did you get it?
Using 6 minutes to explain a technique that is known to all that have been painting and building models or miniatures for more than a couple of days - and that can be explained in ten seconds (without using a glove)...
can this be used on the entire kit and will it give the same good look or would it be better to use another type of weathering on the body? just starting with weathering my gundam kits so i'm kinda new to it =)
itll work on the entire thing bro... i dont know if you watched all the way till the end but i show off some body parts that were weathered... i also have some armored core kits that are entirely weathered too so you can look at those
@dragz1224 if you wanna weather a gundam that is mostly white, you can make him look rusty by taking a bit of super glue and sand. put the superglue where you want the rust to be, then sprnkle a fine sand onto it.
Nice clip zversus, I use the same tech when working on aircrafts and it works great. I just wanted to comment on the quality of your video. It's much clean then all the other I have seen here.
One this I would like to see is how you do your washes? Got a clip on that?
i know what im doing numb nuts a rubber glove is what i use normally but in case you were too dumb to listen i DID say why i was wearing that glove so just go suck a cock and comment on someone who doesnt know what theyre really doing like take yourself for example...thanks for your time...biatch
Dude, I tell you... at first I was a bit skeptical, but by the end of your video a was impressed! Nice job man!
I collect Macross Mecha and I'm looking forward to weathering my Valkyries to make them look "more real." This technique is pretty nice, although I don't think it would work with my fighters... great job, though! XD
heres some things i know you can do in that matter...you can apply the base color and the coat first then weather or you can weather and then apply a (suggested) flat coat...weathering is usually a final add touch up to a kit after all is said and done
Thanks for the info! I just got back to work on a huge stack of Gundam models I collected over time and wanted to start raising my skill and quality. Do you plan on making any more weathering tutorials? Stuff like appropriate color choice for fading and water stains and whatnot.
Darth Vader totally over reacted and messed up his kid's hand pretty bad. Luke was wearing a black glove over a cybernetic prosthetic manipulator afterwards.
Favoriting this one. I just finished my Hogire AC and it looks sorta "Flat" but detailed as hell. so thanks for posting this I may give it a makeover before I start taking pictures!
i have the X-11 paint that you used in this video... and yeah.. it looks better on master grades.. using silver on white makes it look too dirty.. so i suggest using chrome silver paint on dark shades only... know any color that we can use for white plastics?
i used silver cuz the color of the original part was metallic...for white id recommend using grays or browns or maybe even sandy colors but do NOT use metallic colors for whites
wow thanks dude.. this is great.. tried it on my cherudim with enamel paint .. and it looks great... btw my cherudim is 1/144 hg... and instead of a faded brown i used silver... and it looks good... Thanks for this.
That's great, now I know how to do dry brushing. Will this work with most crafty-paints, or if not can you pick up that kind of paint at any local store?
I wonder how this will work on SD kits because they could use some detail. If I sand some bumps into there big heads it will probably work. In the video, are you implying that you can use different colours, like brown, for a dirt effect?
yes...as long as you have PAINT...doesnt what what color or brand as long as you have the right color paint for what you wanna weather with...and brown is actually a nice alternative
Hey not trying to say your drybrushing is bad but you should be careful not do drybrush too much of paint on. Remember the Less is More otherwise the paint job looks unnatural
i intentionally did the overdoing of the dry brushing on THIS particular kit since its used in battle so much...with other kits like gundams you HAVE to be careful of the amount that youre using otherwise it does look way overdone...

Hey not trying to say your drybrushing is bad but you should be careful not do drybrush too much of paint on. Remember the Less is More otherwise the paint job looks unnatural

I think the same way. Its better not to overdo drybrushing.
But aside from that its a really nice tutorial. I've the same paint and will try it out if I'm workiing on a fitting project.
I tried it out with pastels in the past. You get nice results too ^^
