What exactly is nato??? What it looks like from me just looking at the video is marshmellow creme, noodles, and nuts. I'm sure I'm totally wrong but what is it and what is the flavor? anyone?

@poisoncupcake74 It's fermented soy beans. The smell at first resembles stinky feet at times...the texture...very slimy like mucous. To me it kind of resemble the taste of burned coffee beans.

So, I found out what the things you asked about from the bento box are! The first one (white thing with pink rim) is called kamaboko and is a fish cake. [November 15th is Kamaboko day :D] and the other thing is Lotus. I bought lotus today but i have no idea how you eat it...thawed and raw? cooked? boiled? fried?...*sigh*

Yepp the pink/white stuff is fishcake, the "water chestnut" is lotus root :).

I love bento, i miss tokyo so much :(

New years resolutions.. I would just call them new goals, since I just made my last!! I want to hit a certain number in savings, and have better time management. When I do this (March-May sometime) I'm going to quite my full-time job and focus strictly on school...Gotta keep those grades high, but also pump that shit out really fast to make sure I can enroll in college for september!

I think that thing you ate from the bento was a piece of coloured fish cake. Also, I have a number of Asian markets in town, but I have never been able to find natto at a single one of them. Do you have any suggestions on how someone could procure some? I really really want to try it.

The thing with the holes is Lotus Root and I think the purple rinded thing is Mangosteen or dragon fruit. That one I'm not 110% sure.

I wish there was a Japanese market around here. There's some interesting stuff there. There is finally a Polish deli close, so at least there's that. There's a good Middle-Eastern market, too. That place is pretty awesome.

Never tried a bento meal before but it sure sounds tasty.I've yet to try natto too,for a couple of reasons.As far as resolutions go,I stopped making resolutions YEARS ago because it's such a downer when you fail.
