Rags was injured in training the year after she won the Belmont Stakes and was retired. She will never race again.

She is royally bred and a great racer and certainly deserves the chance to pass on her genes.

Breyer is an American company and that is likely why they haven't made Shergar and Desert Orchid who are UK racing stars.

I do hope they make Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandera both.

Ruffian is not Seattle Slew's granddaughter, Rags To Riches is.

Rags To Riches was sired by A.P.Indy who was sired by Seattle Slew. His dam was by Secretariat. Rags is out of Better Than Honour who also foaled Jazil who won the Belmont Stakes in 2006

The foal by Giant's Causeway is named Riches Causeway. Rags was bred to Henrythenavigator for 2010.

Ruffian died several years before Seattle Slew was foaled.

@LeeAnne151 Actually, Ruffian died in 1975. Seattle Slew was foaled in 1974. So, Ruffian died the year after Seattle Slew was foaled. Which is a shame because had she lived, I think Seattle Slew would have made a perfect mate for her. Not being an asshole, just thought I'd correct you on that.

she's just beautiful! if anyone's curious, Rags To Riches foaled a beautiful chestnut filly on March 9th, and has been booked to a stallion by the name of HenryTheNavigator. Rags also passed her white blaze on to her daughter.

Ruffian was a famous racing filly in the 70's, she was in a match race against Foolish Pleasure I believe, and she was leading, snapped her right front leg, ran on for a few steps, and then fell and was euthanized.

Shut up? That is mature. Animals by thier very nature want to procreate. I have worked breeding farms and even the bitchest of mare when in heat would drag someone over to the stallion pin so she can show the stallion she is ready. And mares that were left open for a year would repeatedly try and steal other mare's foals. I guess we can just create foals in the labs thats reasonable and logical.

yes but Im absolutely sure that RIGHT after her foal is weaned, she'll be pregnant again in an instant, just like all the other "winners"

Isn't that how horses do it in the wild. A mare gives birth, within 14 days she has a foal heat and the stallion comes a calling and will continue to breed her until she stops having her heat cycles for the year. A mares body will let it know if it is not safe for her to carry a foal that year by either not getting pregnant or aborting the foal and that happens in wild and captivity.

My problem with breeding is people breeding horses with no athletic ability and poor confirmation that have greater chances of ending up in slaughter houses or breaking down and that goes for anyone that is breeding horses, even the big names ones in the racing and show areas.

Have you never seen a mare with a stallion who dosn't want to be pregnant? I don't mean to be rude, but if she didn't want to have a baby then she would kick the stallion away.

ok they don't impregnate every ex-racing mare... it's not in human either yes sometimes the stud farms does mistreat the mares but rags is proberly fine with cause she is older enough too
