@Salgaz That's right... green clouds indicate a high amount of ice in the cloud formation; the most obvious result is hail, but it's also an indication of how cold the upper level air layer is. Depending on the temperature on the ground, it can develop tornadoes due to high wind speeds via convection if I understand it correctly.
Sure cloud seeding exists, but seeding clouds does not result in thunderstorms, especially severe weather producing monsters. And in some parts of Australia where there is little if no population, there are supercell thunderstorms that occur every summer, no different than the midwestern US. And if you think these tornado outbreaks in the US are because of h.a.a.r.p. think again. April 2011 outbreak was predicted by every meteorologist
And this is a thunderstorm, not H.A.A.R.P. my friend.
And yes, before the April 2011 outbreak, watches were being issued by SPC hours in advance. And the conditions were quite clear to most meteorologists in Alabama and Mississippi. Large scale severe weather events are hardly a surprise to someone who knows how to forecast.
Very close CG, indeed. The time difference between the initial strike and the explosion of thunder is about 0.4 to 0.45 seconds. That would place the bolt somewhere between 0.07 and 0.09 miles from where you were standing (or about 369 to 475 feet away) - Definitely close!
Just have to say..I'm loving all these smart people standing under trees with metal cameras in their hands during a thunderstorm...but like...I dnt wanna start a stupid fight or anything...just wanted to say that...you have to be careful in lightning storms :/...Anyway...rant over :P Really great video footage :)
@LittleMissSunshine2x I kept thinking I shouldn't be out here, but I had just bought the camera and though it would be a good time to try it out. Think I was more afraid at the time of geting the camera wet. I have always loved thunder storms especially in the tropics where they put on a great show every evening.
Shit! wow! lol, impressive, just out of curiosity what camera are you exactly using?, because i am eger to record my next lightning storm with my JVC HD Everio CamCorder ($2000). Please reply :)
@Salgaz oh Yeah iv seen that camera before, I was thinking of buying a Sony one, don't know why I turned that down lol. But yes that's a very nice camera :)
40,000+ cars (including mine) got written off & our local hospital & local shopping mall had their roofs collapse. It was scary driving home from uni in it!
@cypherchyk Na no tornado just a huge ass storm. I think it was something like 600,000/700,000 homes lost power and many still had no power after a week.
I just might be high, but I didn't hear a dog throughout the whole video until that bolt was about to strike. Maybe it knew something? Also, I love how the bolt just "peek-a-boo'ed" in.
@VidPro95 The camera I used was actually a Sony HDR-XR520VE not a 500VE as previously posted. The 520VE has a larger storage capacity (240GB). Other than that they are the same. Cost me $A1675.00, expensive but a nice non professional camera. Very happy with it.
Nice footage, but I wish someone filmed the amazingly beautiful sunset we had afterwards. I was such a contrast to the day, but then again we saw nature really put on show for us that day, shame it came with destruction as well for those that were affected.
Great video!! This is one of the first videos on youtube that I've seen of the perth storm that shows the true green of the approaching hail clouds. Where abouts in perth are you and what video camera did you use?
@Salgaz Thanks for that!! Yeah, looked up the camera. Nice!! Just recently got myself a canon hf200. Seems pretty nice so far. Still learning about it! Anyway, great stuff.
im in como and a lightning struck so close 2 my house that the car alarm went off! :O unfortunately no vids but sounded like a bomb. was VERY close. nice capture m8
So beautiful, the green garden and the rain- it's amazing, i live in Canada and i am tired of snow.. I want to see some green.. Very relaxing video..And the last part- well, i think u'll be dead before even realize it if your going to be strike by a lighting, no point in ducking :) Thanks for the video.

@janmadytay apparently green clouds indicates severe hail possibility which is exactly what we got

@Salgaz i heard it also can indicate a funnel cloud forming??

@Salgaz I'm from Canada and I've seen the clouds turn green. That's when we hit the basement because the tornado sirens begin to go off.
