The best song of the 70s. I'll never forget the first time I heard Kate and Anna! My ex and I went to see them at The Jazz Festival in New Orleans. There they were, two little women..brought so much joy to so many. Kate, I see you in the stars and hear you in the wind.
First heard on a late night radio show of an Austrian-Canadian DJ in Vienna, I - a rather impoverished student then - literally scraped together the money to buy this LP. I still own and adore it to this day. It is full of "theme songs" from my life. Thanks to Anna and Kate - always with us.
i have complete sense memory from this album. from my mother playing it to me in the womb to popping this 'unknown' cassette into the tape player when i was twelve... it was like.. 'i know i've heard this music before somewhere.. ' the beauty and feeling of this album overwhelms me and i'll never listen to another album that is anywhere near as beautiful. xxx
My favourite albums in the 1970s were the McGarrigles, John Hartford, Pentangle, Fairport Convention, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen but even among this group, I think I love the McGarrigles best. I am one English Canadian who loved their music with all my heart and soul (but then again I am half Hungarian!) Safe journey, Kate! I don't know where you are or when I'll be there with you, John, Nick Drake, Gram Parsons and all the other folk greats but I'll hear your music in the stars out tonight
R.I.P. Kate McGarrigle. You brought many, many years of beautiful music to myself and my family. My 10 year old granddaughter knows every word to "The Swimming Song". Thank you so much for your gifts to the world.
R.I.P. Kate McGarrigle - your music will live on forever in this Candian's heart and soul. Condolences to the family, esp. Rufus and Martha Wainwright and sister Anna. Jan. 19 2010
I want this album and will work to find it.......I just bought a copy of the promotional sampler double album "Limo" that Warner Brothers put out in 1977. I got it from Reckless Records in Chicago and it contained the track "Walking Song" which is excellent....and so is this track
I love the McGarrigle Sisters. A really great c.d. by them is The McGarrigle Hour. Friends Emmylou Harris and Linda Rondstat (hope I spelled it right) make appearances on it. Also Rufus Wainwright and father Loudon add to the vocal arrangements.
