It's a bit weird how they keep mentioning that "when you'll be king, things will be different" throughout all 3 seasons because it's a bit like saying: "when your father FINALLY dies..."a bit rude...:-D
Its fun knowing that those two will end up married...I mean I've thrown most of my notions of arthurian myth out the door since this show does take a few liberties, but I take joy in knowing thats one thing they really can't mess with
When I saw this for the first time, I was honestly astounded. I didn't think he'd be this serious this soon, and I certainly didn't think he'd seek her out. The fact that the proud prince of Camelot that we know would tell a servant "I've never loved another," really says a lot about them. I suppose I had him pegged for someone who would be in complete denial the whole time, not for the total romantic that he evidently is.
@ACWKnight I think she admired Lancelot's noble qualities compared to the arrogant Arthur but when she and Lancelot were captured, it seems like she took her admiration as love for Lancelot because it was like "I'm going to die anyway" kind of a deal. Combined with the fact that a relationship with Lancelot would have been more likely since they're the same status, if they survived.
@ACWKnight its not weird , she also fell for merlin and arthur seemed to find his sister attractive in the beginning of season 1 just as gwen find lancelot attractive in that season.

I know it doesn't matter now because Arthur has said he loves her...but in this scene, when he says "I've never loved another"...is he saying that he's doesn't love *anyone* or is he saying that he doesn't love anyone *else* (apart from Gwen...like he doesn't love Vivian...) I remember being confused when I was watching it...
I know it's not important anymore because he's pratically told Gwen he loves her ("It's what you do when you love someone"). Funny- Gwen hasn't said anything like that yet!
@DistantDreamer93 he's saying that he never has and still doesn't love anyone other than her. I also find it interesting they haven't had Gwen actually say "I love you" to Arthur. Maybe it's because she has no real control over whether or not they'll get to be together. He's the one that will have to change things when he becomes king. But we all know he will. Just saying that she may still be a bit wary of voicing her feelings while Uther remains king and all that.

I'm not worried about the Gwen/Lancelot angle. Sure, the writers will throw it in for angst and whatnot, but the series has not stuck to the legend so far. (Merlin being younger than Arthur, Morgana being a Ward to the King, Gwen being a servant and not a Lady) And thank goodness for that! I love this show and I love Gwen and Arthur together! Go Arwen!

UUUGH....I'm spoiling and torturing myself watching these clips of Season 2 episodes that haven't aired here in the U.S., yet. Can't help it though, love the whole Arthur and Guinevere love story. @B2590 Ya, it's a completely modified story...the writers wanted to explore what Merlin would have been like as a young man. Technically Arthur would not have been alive so they just made them the same age and then threw in the idea of magic being banned to make things more interesting.
You don't need to know anything about the real legend to enjoy the show =)
@nataliedormerfan The writers gave the role of Guinevere the chance to everyone regards to their race. Angel Coulby was simply the best of all the actresses for Guinevere. And i am glad they picked her. She makes her character Guinevere alive in many ways, that other Guinevere's really lacked at it. Besides form this Guinevere i ONLY like Julia Ormond as Guinevere in The first knight. At least in that version and in this they justifie Guinevere unlike the other versions.

Seriously I will be so upset if these two are not close in series 3. Arthur quite fancied his adopted kind of sister but was NEVER in love with her(his own statement, "I've never loved another."
Gwen was attracted to Merlin but later saw him as a friend and she did fancy Lancelot (who wouldn't..sigh...) but was NEVER truely in love with him. She stated her feelings would never change for him as she would ALWAYS find him noble at heart.
She has GROWN to love Arthur and that is the true love here. Just my own thoughts.

There was no mention of Lancelot until some French writer added him as a catalyst for the downfall of Camelot. One of the earlier French romances mentioned that Arthur forged a political marriage with the daughter of the king of Ireland and he loved her as both his mistress and queen and she grew to love him so much that she was incapable of betraying him.

The characters who DO take part in the welsh version are of course: Arthur, Gwen (DUH), Morgause (actually her name in the welsh version is Anna and she is the aunt of Arthur), Mordred, Gawain, Bedivere and Kay.

And besides from that i don't also think that Lancelot is in love with her. He seems to have a crush on her. Nobody can fall in love with somebody the met for a couple days. And if he loved her he would have at least fought for her or let her decide. Even though he is my least favorite character he deserves to have somebody to be real IN LOVE with him.

I do think Lancelot is in love with her, it's just in his nature to be self-sacrificing. Whatever. I really don't like Lancelot. if you say that gwen loves lance more. but why would she first choose arthur and then betray him with lancelot. if she loved lance more she would easily pick him, because there is no boundarie there. it is obvious how the writerd have build thee relationship up. arthur and gwen are the main love couple of the show or else if they wanted a l/g love gwen would have been a princess and lance a main character.

UUUGH....I'm spoiling and torturing myself watching these clips of Season 2 episodes that haven't aired here in the U.S., yet. Can't help it though, love the whole Arthur and Guinevere love story. @B2590 Ya, it's a completely modified story...the writers wanted to explore what Merlin would have been like as a young man. Technically Arthur would not have been alive so they just made them the same age and then threw in the idea of magic being banned to make things more interesting.
You don't need to know anything about the real legend to enjoy the show =)

@nataliedormerfan The writers gave the role of Guinevere the chance to everyone regards to their race. Angel Coulby was simply the best of all the actresses for Guinevere. And i am glad they picked her. She makes her character Guinevere alive in many ways, that other Guinevere's really lacked at it. Besides form this Guinevere i ONLY like Julia Ormond as Guinevere in The first knight. At least in that version and in this they justifie Guinevere unlike the other versions.

Seriously I will be so upset if these two are not close in series 3. Well at least I want Guin to tell Arthur she loves him too (although I know she does) but people think it is all one sided and the writers need to let the viewers know it is a two sided love affair and god forbid it a three sided affair. Arthur quite fancied his adopted kind of sister but was NEVER in love with her(his own statement, "I've never loved another."
Gwen was attracted to Merlin but later saw him as a friend and she did fancy Lancelot (who wouldn't..sigh...) but was NEVER truely in love with him. She stated her feelings would never change for him as she would ALWAYS find him noble at heart.
She has GROWN to love Arthur and that is the true love here. Just my own thoughts.

@TheAngelgirl1992 I second that notion. In the original Welsh stories, Guinevere was faithful to Arthur. There was no mention of Lancelot until some French writer added him as a catalyst for the downfall of Camelot. One of the earlier French romances mentioned that Arthur forged a political marriage with the daughter of the king of Ireland and he loved her as both his mistress and queen and she grew to love him so much that she was incapable of betraying him.

The characters who DO take part in the welsh version are of course: Arthur, Gwen (DUH), Morgause (actually her name in the welsh version is Anna and she is the aunt of Arthur), Mordred, Gawain, Bedivere and Kay.

Like Arthur she is scared of getting her feelings hurt because unless things chang in Camelot, they cannot be together. This is so sad but so romantic how they yearn for one another like that.
