A lot of Rescue 911 segments were medical/trauma, although it's hard to put Rescue 911 on a channel like that due to the variety of situations presented.
Wow, I have a friend who has a brother-in-law who's a Highway Patrol Officer, and he's a little careful whenever he's stopping a car. so I think that my friend's brother-in-law is doing a prettty good job.
Now why did Stephen Hobbs decide to continue on when he was in such bad condition? If I were him, I would have waited for someone to come by to get me to the emergency room.
Poor Policeman. All he was doing is, trying to do his job. But the stupid suspect pull a trigger. I hope they find him and put him in jail or sentence him to death.
The guy was guilty of more than speeding; that was a stolen car he was driving. In the end, the suspect was caught and sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Just to set everyone right; his car set fire from the heat of the car. He had been driving all day, his car was hot and when he passed out from loss of blood, his car went into the median. In mid-july in Idaho the weeds are tall and dry. Dry weeds catch fire easy when there's a hot car on them.
I happen to know the officer that was hurt in this episode as well as many of them that responded. It was an amazing rescue and it is still remembered as being an amazing time when we could help an officer who was in need of help.
It's so rare for an officer to die in the line of duty here in Idaho. I think a woman officer died back in the late '90's, and that was very sad. :( They had a huge funeral for her at the Idaho Center, but I could be mistaken. I was young when it happened.
Now, I fear, it may become more common as the drug dealers move up north. :(
Wow. I've gotta stop watching these, becuase I want to move to America, and Idaho itsself and become a State Police Trooper. I find it so damn sad when I see a Real Police Officer down. This almost made me cry from sadness. I appreciate that eldeerly mans efforts, he did great - saving the State Officer from the burning, engulfed vehicle. I think the Officer should of told him to move up the Highway more, or less then atleast the Radio Transmission would of been better. I hope he doesn't die.
I left some remarks before on Part 2 of this. His wife is a cop herself, so why her complete loss of emotional discipline? She knew the bargain when she married this officer. It could've just as eaisily been her if she'd been a road deputy. Also, when she heard the call on the search and rescue band, why didn't she get on the county frequency and send out a call to roll out the patrol deputies to his aid?
because When Steve had stopped this individual he would have radioed in the stop but the radio transmission is bad there. Also by the time it was found out emergency personell were already enroute and not to mention the closest police officer to Steve was 70 miles away.
oh and shes is a Sheriff's dispatcher which no disrespect intended doesnt make her a deputy or give her the powers of arrest yes she wore a uniform and shield and but some departments do that but most now a days dont
to add to that....when you hear that your husband had been shot, it's hard to think of the logic things. When someone of your family is hurt, what do you do? Just think about that....
I heard the entire incident on my scanner at my house in Twin Falls . Dee Silver since this broadcast had moved on to dispatch at the Southern Idaho Regional Communications Center (SIRCOMM) in Jerome , where she has retired from . Cpl. Delon Jones of the Idaho State police is also retired. fourteen years later , Cpl. Chris Glenn of ISP was critically injured while in pursuit of an armed robbery suspect on US 93 near Twin Falls . The suspect was apprehended at the scene and hospitalized .
makes sense because normally the electronics would have been fried also in the second video when the police car is engulfed careful viewers can still see them going
Thank you for sharing this episode! I lost my video of it. They used my car (the Honda) for the "bad guy" that shot the officer. I kept the blanks from the shooting. They left them in the car! Anyway, I loved this show (in general), and I can't wait to see what others are here. I'm glad that the officer from this episode lived.
I have the motor cop one, but the end got taped over. It happened in Reno, Nevada.
I think the other one you're thinking about is "Psychic Cop" from Episode 211. The cop who crashed had a dream the night before that his wife had died in a car wreck.
This is one of the best reality shows I've ever watched. You cannot compare reality crime shows to fictional or make-believe crime shows or movies. I don't like fiction anymore, it's too misleading. Forget fiction! So, welcome to the real world, which I like and enjoy best. This episode is just awesome! I love the field of Criminal Justice! Thanks for posting!
He probably should not have tried to drive... but I'm sure he was panicking. But I have learned something today- if I am ever shot, I will not try to drive.
Do you have the 1st segment from this episode where 2 men are caught in an avalance? If so, could you put that one up? Oh, forgive me on the spelling.
Haha... nope, sure didn't. Didn't realize that was the injured trooper and wasn't paying enough attention to see he was off the road. Whoops, but again thanks for posting all these episodes...
This officer violated the hallmark of standard police procedure. He didn't call his traffic stop in to dispatch. This would have enabled help to reach him much sooner because they would already have the location. As a dispatcher myself, some of my officers fail to call in their stops as well. But the difference is I'm in an urban area where should an officer need help, it's usually less than a mile away, not 70. What was this officer thinking? Oh, that's right, he wasn't!
That stretch of Interstate is extremely remote. Do the laws only apply in cities or if comms exist between the officer and dispatch? As a Coast Guard veteran I would lose comms regularly while on a mission - crap happens.
Hoop is exactly right. This trooper knew he was in a radio dead spot so he should've waited for a better area to make the stop. Just like the saying goes, you may know where you are and god may know where you are, but if your dispatcher doesn't know where you are you better be on very good terms with god.
I imagine Steve would have been being a state trooper. State troopers are often more respected than local police (in Massachusetts anyway) because here in MA if you are polite and honest with them you get off with a warning. If you are also polite and honest with a trooper they will be the same to you. Steve was friendly when he pulled the ass face over and in return the fucker shoots Steve
The trooper should have waited but then again his car may also not have been fast enough (police cars nowadays are faster than their civilian counterparts) to catch the offending vehicle who may have been long gone and troopers do have jurisdiction state wide, Steve also couldnt stray too far from his barracks unless he was chasing someone which he wasnt it was just a traffic stop
They used to show half hour shows of Rescue 911. It pissed me off when they did but after this segment ended up being half of one episode and half of the other.
They only did this when in syndication, not when it first aired. In fact, the bar shooting segement was broken up in two parts in syndication, so was a segment about a high rise fire in New York

I recalled that in 60 or 70's ... If bad person killed police office, the court will put them to death warrent. Put in eletric chair.
strassj 2 years ago
they should still do that in my opinion. Killing some, especially a cop is the worse crime you can commit
arohn2007 2 years ago 2
they should do that today, or better yet throw em in the furnace.

When it crashed, the gas line most likely was broken and the fuel came in contact with a hot part of the vehicle and created the fire.
