  • This is great!!! THX

  • We're lucky enough to still have a drive-in here in Sacramento, CA. People go and set up their barbecues, lawn chairs, someone even has double-deck sofas on the back of a pickup truck. I doubt if it's anything like the heyday of drive-ins, but it was certainly an experience.

Enjoyed the presentation of this. To make it even more authentic, you should have had headlights going across the screen every 5 seconds, traffic noise from the adjacent freeway and make the picture about half as bright

  • @Gannett2011 You just gave me a great idea. Thanks!

  • When I was in high school, there was a drive-in theatre a short drive away (now replaced by a housing development). One of the kids in my electric shop class had built a home-made parabolic microphone. His aunt & uncle lived just behind the drive-in, and he'd rig up the microphone to pick up the sound from the speakers and played it over a loudspeaker.

  • What about the BIC

  • I thought I heard a mosquito. Light the BIC

  • @TheBelldiver you may be thinking of PIC the mosquito repellant

  • I would have been so mesmorized just at the intermission ads

  • VERY nicely done! This is the intermission trailer I vivdly recall from my childhood jaunts to the beloved Drive-Ins! MANY years later, in 1996, when operating my own Drive-In, we used this intermission! Awfully eerie seeing it on the giant screen after all of those years, but I got a very warm and giddy feeling! Life is good! Thanks for this ultra-cool presentation!!!

  • @davelounder Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I sure miss the Drive-in.

  • Do I hear a faint sound of crickets? Genius!

  • This is so perfect ... do MORE

  • @icelandlava I plan to do a 50's and 60's movie trailers video using the Drive in screen in the background. Stay tuned.

  • AWSOME CLIP, WELL CONSTRUCTED AND PRESENTED. tHANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING. i'M KIND OF NEW TO THIS AND REALLY ENJOY THESE INTERMISSION REELS. By the way, I found another clip you might wanna check out, with plenty of intermission clips and a short documentation. Type into search: tri way drive in plymouth

  • @driveinnut61 Thanks for the info friend, and Im glad you ejoyed the clip.

  • @videomix22 did u use the sky and the cars as the background or did u record this in the 60s?

  • @FlashMaster659 I used a background of a Drive-In theater then added the video over the screen. On the sound, I added an audio filter to give it that realistic feel. Thanks for watching.

  • Wow.

    Thanks for the memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill You're welcome George.

  • i was born in 95 and wish i had the experience of going in to a drive in

  • @adrianroam95 well i was born in 94, and me and my bro who was also born in 95 were really lucky to go to a drive in.

  • @adrianroam95 too bad there aren't as many drive ins as there used to be....

  • Ok I have to ask for all who want to know.

How did you mix the sound to get the effect of Drive-in sound?

  • @TheTaijavu I used the effect called WavesReverb on the audio filter using the video editing software ULEAD MEDIA STUDIO PRO 7.

  • Love it. Very well done. This is still shown at the Starlite in Wichita KS

  • This is the exact same thing they show at Haars Drive In in Dillsburg, PA

  • LOL.......perfect sound!

This was what you heard while at the snack bar watching the clock making sure you got back in time. When you finally located the damn car!

  • @Quasimodo1957 Very true. Trying to find your car and holding the snack goodies at the same time was a real task. Thanks for watching.

  • thanx 22 the sound is very authentic: It BLARED. And half of it U missed because of assholes who showed up late revvving their cars engine or leaving 10 minutes into the 2nd feature.

  • For a truly authentic effect, you should have the sound of the film only coming from the left speaker.

  • @MrUnidyne Thats a great idea MrUnidyne, I'll try that. Thanks

  • brings back good memories thank you

  • Sweet man. Can' wait to get my backyard theater up and running.........

Love the "outside of the car sound" you recreated.

  • @sh0ckwave06 Wow thats cool, I too Im getting ready for our Summer Outdoor Movie nights with friends next week. I plan to run the 10 minute intermission clock just like this one between the movies.

  • 2;25

It's nice to see Herr Doktor is doing good things for humanity to make up for his previous job two decades earlier as one of Dr. Mengele's assistants.

Wait. Hold on! What sort of material did he put into that machine to crank out all those hot doggies? OH MY GOD DO I HEAR SCREAMS COMING FROM INSIDE?? GOOD LORD! CHOKE! DAMMIT YOU, DOKTOR!!!

  • whereI live we still have a drive in I guess I am lucky for where I live

  • @becca197234 we still have one in Avon NY (near Rochester), it's a flea market on Sundays (closed winter)

  • @yaywhewclips242 Ours is open all year would you beleive it!!

  • This is Brilliant! Lord how I wish the Drive-Ins still existed around here.

  • Oh wow! Thanks! :)

  • I'm still lookinmg for the ones with the dancing Can-Can girls with ballons.....intermission countdown.

  • Adding the sounds of crickets is a touch of genius! We have a 5 screen Drive-In here in Las Vegas, Nevada, but they don't show these intermission films, which is a shame.

  • I Miss Drive Ins Nothing But MultiPlexs Were I Am Drive Ins Are So Much More Cozy And Family Oriented

  • Comment removed

  • I'll never understand why some drive ins don't use these cool advertising clips. Snack bar sales would have to skyrocket, plus, they add to the experience.

  • this is exactly the intermission show at our drive in fantastic.

  • This is the exact Intermission Ad that our local Drive In played - The drive in has been gone for well over 25 years yet I remember these little ditties as if it were yesterday. THANKS for posting it. Now if I can only find the old Orange Crush Commercial they played, the one with the rabbit peeking under the curtain and the old player piano type music.

  • That was neat to watch man, thanks for creating that. I also can't believe the food items they had in those kinds of snack bars back then. Doughnuts and coffee even?

Luckily, there is still a drive in theater where I live as well, but I don't know if they'll re-open it next summer.

  • Thanks Dunes, glad you enjoyed it. I hope the Drive-in in your town re-opens next summer.

  • Same here,it's for the sake of fun and nostalga that we have those.

  • Makes me hungry for all kinds of goodies, lol. We used to go every Sat night.

  • Great job!!!!

  • I really miss the drive-in theaters. We don't have any around here (Northeast Washington) any more. I remember these old intermission films. What fun they were. Thank you for posting.

  • Actually, I do not think that there are that many around anywhere anymore. I recently viewed a video segment on this site that stated there were about 400 of them around that are left in operation, if that many. Maybe, just maybe, that they could start making them from scratch again. For starting off, with all the products used to make them with, make them right here in the good old U.S. Maybe, it would be somewhat of a helping hand to restart this country's economy again.

  • Yeah I've read that too about 400 left. I also believe it is time for a comeback. I think the new generation doesn't know what they have been missing and just might get into it.

  • I was just wondering how it was you were able to get the look of a drive-in in the video, such as the Screen, tree line, sky and cars in the video?

  • The answer to your question, I used a photo off the internet and then placed the intermission video over the screen using the video editor to create the effect . On the sound, I also used an audio filter off the editor to give it that outdoor effect. Finally, I placed a sound track of crickets in the background to give it that realistic effect. This was the way I remembered being at the drive -in back in the day.

  • This is a great blast of the past, Drive-In Theaters are so much a part of American culture, they need to be preserved. It's heyday sadly maybe long gone but those times will always have a place in my heart. Me & my wife have sworn that if we ever win the lottery or become even remotely rich that we would buy some land in a semi rural area & build a new Drive-In Theater. Most have closed in my hometown, the nearest 1 is an hr away & even they're trying to sell once the Real Estate rebounds.

  • Hey K24skin, my wife and I say the same thing. If we ever hit the loto or if we ever get the nerve to ask for a super large loan, we would built a two screen Drive-in Theater here in San Antonio. Sadly, the last Drive-In Theater here in town closed forever due to low lifes causing thousands of dollors in damages. What a bummer.

  • Oh the memories.

  • I just love the sound effect.

  • Google bought out the drive-in in my town and used the lot as a "server farm".

    Progress? FEH!

  • Love the sound. It feels like I'm at the theater getting refreshments.

  • Absolutely incredible! How did you make it?

  • Thanks for the memories!

  • You're welcome friend!

  • I especially enjoyed the sound track. It sounded just like I remember. Also, you played some of the all time classic clips and it's nice to be able to click on entertainment such as this. I'm seriously concidering giving up TV, after all, now that You Tube is showing uncut episodes of several classics, I wouldn't be missing out, now, would I? Anyways, thanks for taking the time to produce and post this video!

  • We have like 6 drive ins here like 30-100 miles apart from each other in southern California

  • Thanks. Those are some of my favorite clips. It is always an added bonus when you get to see these visual yreasures. I've been to a few drive ins where the oporators don't think the expese is worth it, and it IS expensive. They don't understand how these innane and rediculous in som cases bits of 35mm films can boost yjeir snack bar revenue. When I was a kid, I alays marveled at the "Ten Minute" intermissions at the now demolished NORTHSIDE that always seemed to run AT LEAST 15 minutes!

  • driveinnut61, I agree. I know that the only way a Drive-in theater could survive is to make lots of sales at the snack bar. thanks for watching.

  • Out of this world !!! Wonderful mixing !

  • What a great video. Nice job!! I like the echo, and the crickets chirping. It's almost like being there! The drive-ins will be open soon. Think spring!

  • This is such a well-done, professional execution of a great concept. Kudos. I think I have the same compilation on DVD and sometimes run it on movie nights at my house. I need to find the full version of the martian visitor clip.

  • Amazing effect and editing. Very good job.

  • high 65 how I miss you

  • Absolutely great stuff! I'm lucky we still have our drive-in down the road from me, in operation since the 50's...and they do great summer business, and broadcast through the radio too! This will keep me happy until they open in the mid spring! THANKS!!

  • Thanks veRTigo9191, we had the Mission Drive - In Theater operating her since 1947 up untill 2007 when during the off season, it was vandalized at a cost of over $500.000. The owners decided to close and sell it to the City of San Antonio. Im shure going to miss the drive-in days.

  • Yeah, great job making it look like we are at the Drive-In. Even the crickets. lol Great post!

  • Hey!!! Thanks for posting!!! My grandparents would take me to the drive-in when I was a little girl! I remember this!!!This would make a great date!!!

  • God, how I miss the drive-in movies! Saw some of my all time favorites there for the first time - "Taxi Driver" "Jaws," "What's Up, Doc?" - each an unforgettable, indelible experience made more so because of the "motor movies."

  • Since none of those cars have "speakers" on the windows, this photo must represent a later time when you could use your car radio to pick up the signal. but these intermission films were the most fun part of drive-in's for me. they're nostalgic. I miss them.

  • I went to a drive in just this weekend had cotton candy and I love it every summer we go so I like it.

  • Can You Please Upload The Intermission With Man Saying It's Showtime Folks Enjoy The Show! Please?

  • Only the first few seconds is included here. I think the full version is up here somewhere.

  • We have three working drive in's close by here wher I live. They still show first run movies too but the last weekend of every month they show a classic movie. This past weekend they showed American Graffitti and Drag City. What a great way to watch a movie - parked under the stars!

  • ah i wish i was around for drive in stuff, naah i would be old by now lol

  • Cool audio effect and all.

  • That pizza looks soooo good. Nice thin crust!

  • Just like being there except for the mosquitos
