funnily enough, these people were not protesting at all, when they walked into their bank years ago and took out their loans and mortgages for ridiculously low interest rates. They did not march on the street chanting "I want higher rates, so that a credit bubble does not build up and only those people buy a house who can actually afford them!"

So what were they doing back then? Probably busy choosing their kitchen furniture and their lounge suites...

The common man wanting a better life for his family, combined with banks that rob people blindly by giving them money created out of thin air for loans they know the person cannot afford, mainly because there is not enough money is circulation ( actual paper dollars ) to actually pay off ALLof the compounding debt, plus less jobs and higher prices more taxes and less corporate regulation. THAT IS WHY THIS HAPPENED NOT BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE!

Many people here took no loans, I took no loans!! And what low interest rates? There has never been low interest rates here. Our national resources where used by maybe some 1000 people to offer foreigners loans with low interest raids, well we "the mob" paid of the rest of the interest blindly.

Over 60% of the now national dept was cumulated by under 100 men.

interests have never been rediculously low here. It has always been connected to that and so if interests were 11% you could add at least 5% to that when things were "fine". Today interests are still 11% but you have to add about 18% to that to get the total interests you pay of that loan you took 10 years ago!! As everyone we believed the system was working but not all of us were taking loans for everything. Most of us have loans on our houses and most of us can not pay those loans today.

Well, even though some people find lighting bonfires and making noise a laim way to protest, WE HAVE DONE IT!!! We have brought down the government, new one is being formed as I write this and we will have election in May!!

There is no need for violent riots, just let the government know you are out there and that you dont like them! Non-stop PEACEFUL protesting keeps them on the edge, and when it finally sinks in to their thick heads, that they are not wanted you will have won! Like we did:P

We are just over 300.000.... 320 if I remember correctly. The USA army is gone. The UK army was supposed to send some forces over but the nation gently declined that as Mr. Brown declared us terrorists against the UK nation. Norwegians protect us and so will other nations as we are a peaceful nation by nature. But now times are different. People are fed up. We haven't protested anything since 1946 (hope I'm accurate). Hope the government will fall soon. Othervise there will be riots!

My only protest at the moment is the "Stiff Upper Lip" atmosphere in the Jehovah's Witnesses religion. People who are timid or can't stand up for themselves are often belittled and made to feel inferior. It's such a restrictive and judgemental religion, but plenty of followers are too submissive and don't question injustices. I was different, and left them on 17 Febrauary 2000!.

People were protesting until 3 or 4 this morning witch makes this the longest protesting in Iceland since 1946 when Iceland joined NATO despite Icelanders were against it. It will begin again today at 13:30.
