I like Bob Heil but what in the world is he wearing? It looks like a cross between a NASCAR driver race suit gone wrong and some type of jet ski jacket leisure wear. Oh dear...
I respect Bob Heil with his immense knowledge and innovative products but this choice of fashion is a train wreck..think modern day Herb Tarlek garb!
How do I get in touch with the Austin Texas group that did the mesh network? We are interested in doing tht around here for an APRS system internet connection.
I know there were 3 good DIY booths at the San Mateo maker faire. Only 3 seconds of footage, an out of context screenshot.
The ARRL is still trying to recruit from within the ham community. The overall tone, music, footage reached out to people about 30 years older than they should be reaching to.
We want to recruit to people in their teens and 20s. Not the over 40 crowd. This is a over 40's infomercial.
@mpechner I shot and edited the show 1080i. The output file from the AVID Symphony HD is 1080i from which the 720P distribution DVD's were made. The 720P file is available for free download from the ARRL website. The 1080i file is simply to large to make available except on Blu Ray and there will likely be no requests for it. The 1080i file exists only on a pair of G-Drives one of which is at arms length from where Im seated. Here on YouTube the ARRL posted 480.
@RadioHamGuy Actually I chose the closing song based on the fact that it says exactly what the entire show is saying: "...come and join us on the airwaves."

@burpleson -- ain't that the truth? Have you seen the video that goes with it? You think the song is lame, wait until you see them bozos in tux and tophat on top of a tower singing it...

That is the problem. It is toooo ham. What we need is outreach to the hacker and maker community. This does not do that.

The ARRL claims to have a link for a HD version. Why isn't it here? Only 480?

We are not similar to 'hacker' groups.
We operate within the law.

@fatkinson1954
Hackers operate within the law. The meaning of the work has chnaged.
So 1980's.
mpechner 2 months ago
@mpechner No. It's so ham (ham means amateur radio operator).
fatkinson1954 2 months ago
@fatkinson1954 No, parts of Ham radio are similar to hacker groups or hackspaces.
Hackerspaces are about learning and teaching about science, math, technology, and such.
Most, if not all hackerspaces abide local & state laws.
I encourage you to look into the hackspace movement.

@burpleson I tend to agree. Couldn't they have gotten Joe Walsh (WB6ACU) or Ronnie Milsap (WB4KCG) to do a cool song to close it out?
