This movie sucks. There was pretty much no plot, they are just running away from nothing. And the very beggining of the movie was crap. Two peolpe reading. I lost my page.... What page was I on? I understand he wanted to make it a B-Movie, however, there is a reason people now avoid B-Movies. They suck. Also, according to the interviews, he was taking this project more seriously as it went along. This is where M Night pretty much became a joke to hollywood. And it didn't help after he made The Last Airbender. I'm sorry but, fuck this movie.

M. Night is one of my favorite directors. His first 3 movies are among my all time favorites, and I even liked The Village to an extent (if it weren't for its twist, I would have loved it), and even Lady in the Water was watchable, though I walked away disappointed. Teenagers From Space was a B movie that is likable as a B movie. Plan 9 from Outer Space is a B movie that is a bad likable film. The happening just sucked.
Another good review, nice work! I did think the build up in Signs was eminently creepy, although the ending let everyone off the hook far too easily. Youd think theyd arrive, perhaps toy with us a bit for any interesting reactions and then dismantle the Earth whole sale. The scene where the bird hit the stealthed ship was great though. I hear they might be making Greg Bear's Forge of God cycle into movies so Ill wait for those.
The failure of this film can be attributed to bad timing. Why? If this movie wouldve been release, lets say the 70s, today it could have been a cult classic. I am not saying is a bad movie. You never know, perhaps in time, it might have a following.

the acting was pretty good to me, except for the lead actor trying to be funny with his student in the classroom. i really liked the movie i thought the idea was really good and i always put myself in that situation and see how i would feel if i was in that kind of trouble. so that made me enjoy the movie. the ending was really good too. i thought it was a twist.
only ppl who dislike the movie were prolly only stumped on the part it caused suicide. I thought it was good too but if he made it simply the toxin slowly kills you instead of somehow making you kill yourself alot more ppl would like.

There was a part in the movie where the old woman asks Wahlberg if he's planning on stealing from her, and he goes, "What?! for plants to even develop such a mutation, it would take millions of years for sustainable mutations to take place, and if they do not directly benefit the survival of the plant, the genes are lost, and since it was every type of plant in the world doing it all at once, and no build up, the idea is just dumb. also, the subtle things like the mood ring and the origional name for the film is rli kl and all, but as someone just goin in to c the film w/o noin the origional name, it was lost on me.

I liked the movie, but really didn't get it until the second time around. I liked the realistic effect the movie portrayed. I mean, something like that actually happening to us really wouldn't surprise me because of how destructive we are to the planet.

A had find a mistake in some point of the film Elliot say it's because of large number of groups but in some point of the movie he talks to a girl on the who is lone in house house and the thing got into her house and killed her when she was alone. I found that out after watching and i don't think i'm the only one
well she was in a town with a bunch of people. and she couldnt be too isolated by just being in the house. but there were indeed many confusing parts. so cant really blame you there.

I'm a fan of M. Night also. I saw this movie when it came out last year on Friday the 13th too. I thought it was interesting and I enjoyed it. It was scary to me because it seems like something like that could possibly happen. I agree with you on the acting; it could have been better, but overall I liked it a lot.

the acting was pretty good to me, except for the lead actor trying to be funny with his student in the classroom. i really liked the movie i thought the idea was really good and i always put myself in that situation and see how i would feel if i was in that kind of trouble. so that made me enjoy the movie. the ending was really good too. i thought it was a twist.

No director should be making a b movie unless they want it to be a comedy. It was far too serious to be comedy, because it was advertised and portrayed as a serious thriller that he usually does.
Sorry to say, despite what he wanted to do, he failed.
Although I do agree with you on one thing: He needs co writers... BADLY.

Lol now that you say the bad acting was probably intentional, it makes more sense. There was a part in the movie where the old woman asks Wahlberg if he's planning on stealing from her, and he goes, "What?! No!" and it just sounded so funny, my brother and I were cracking up we rewinded it twice. I really hope the bad acting was intentional, or else I'm Wahlberg in different light from now on..

The Happening was very original, but I think it's was TOO original. The idea of plants releasing toxins to make people commit suicide is just too original. In my opinion, it sounds like they just drew ideas out of a hat

seeing how i grew up watching b monster movies like godzilla. so i may give it another chance.
plus, no offense, but i fear that m. night might ruin avatar cause i love that show to death and just doin a live action movie of it in general, especailly after watching the shity piece of garbage that was dragonball E, worries me alot especailly with m. night doing it. the village still hung in my mind since it was one i didnt enjoy, the ending sucked and the whole thing was dissapointing.

for plants to even develop such a mutation, it would take millions of years for sustainable mutations to take place, and if they do not directly benefit the survival of the plant, the genes are lost, and since it was every type of plant in the world doing it all at once, and no build up, the idea is just dumb. also, the subtle things like the mood ring and the origional name for the film is rli kl and all, but as someone just goin in to c the film w/o noin the origional name, it was lost on me.

I'm a fan of M. Night also. I saw this movie when it came out last year on Friday the 13th too. I thought it was interesting and I enjoyed it. It was scary to me because it seems like something like that could possibly happen. I agree with you on the acting; it could have been better, but overall I liked it a lot.

This was definitely a decent film.
My friend convinced me to watch it, even though I really didn't want to watch it. I felt the previews for it didn't do it any justice.

so, i rented this movie and really like it right off the back. and it was funny cause when they came accross the plant farm guy i was like wouldnt it be funny if it was the pants that were doing this and it was lol. later i made my friend watch it and they were like that was not really scary but made-you-think-scary movie. afterward when we went outside my friend kinda freaked when the wind started to blow and move the trees. it was a good movie
