  • Fantastic lesson. I would never have aced it without the tabs. The key for me was playing the A string at the right time.

  • I have Erb's palsy in my left arm I used to take guitar lessons but quit because my fingers weren't strong enough to push down on the fret board. So I would like to know, can one still play guitar if they have Erb's palsy?

  • @MrMusicM67 Where are the pickups???????

  • Great video, I appreciate the link. Thanks!

  • thanks outstanding

  • ...and broken down so well too!

  • Thanks. It's the most accurate sounding version on YT. :)

  • @collinclaus Agreed. It's still kickin' my butt. Luke, I don't suppose you have an acoustic guitar version? I suspect I'll get it in a day or day. Tricky one though.

  • This sound goes right into my heart. I really, really need you to slow it down much more to get it right. Is it possible? I tried with the tabs but don´t get it right.

  • BTW: I love love lessons that have very little or no un-necessary jibber jabba about nothing. This is seld explanatory. I dont even know thw chords yet but I will figure them out here in a minute.......after this joint :)

  • Really nice sound ( tone )......I need that sound badly.

  • what kind of guitar is that? where r the pickups?

  • @MrMusicM67

    Variax...by "Line 6"

  • Great sound. Im even listening to this for the pleasure now! Could you do a full broken down guitar lesson for this? Im trying the tab but it never sounds right.

  • @DanBDW

I have posted a link to the tab in the "More Info" section...if you're still having trouble learning this piece, let me know, and I will try and do a break down as best I can.

  • @lukessummerguitar I've been looking at the tab and I'm still having a really hard time! A thorough breakdown would be super helpful. you seem to be the only person on the internet who can play this riff correctly...

  • YES looked all over the internet for this:D

  • AWESOME JOB! this is so helpful, im so glad i found your lesson to learn this awesome song. THANK YOU

  • Thanks for this. You appear to be the only person among many who actually bothered to upload the real version of this awesome riff. Cheers!

  • So excited to find this. I sing it in Am so this works for me! Thanks!

  • Great lesson. Many thanks!

  • Beautiful tutorial, thanks for the video. Just starting to learn finger picking and LOVE the song.

  • THANKS!!! Seeing the even tempo on the open A string showed me what I was doing wrong.

  • dude .. is amazing ! but this is not "How to play it" .. its like a "look how I play it" .. change the little cuz is not a guitar lesson ! .. or put the tab somewhere! haha .. thanks for the song anyways!

  • this is not a lesson. this is a cover. played very nice but in no way breaks down the song or how to play/pick it.

  • i wish the video was broke down a little bit more...but im going to learn it regardless! you are awesome!

  • Finally someone who can play it correctly. All the tabs I've seen show this as basic 1st position open chords.

  • Cheers so much for posting this video, have not been able to find the tabs anywhere, not even photobucket, so I guess I'll be learning it off this :P

  • Absolutly great and helpfull! Could you show it on an accoustic guitar???

  • @lukessummerguitar Fantastic. Thanks.

  • can you get tabs? would be VERy helpfull

  • dude plz tabs! this is my dream to play this

  • Just trying to work this song out. Thanks for your help. It sounds like a travis style of picking.

  • awesome!

  • I still can't do it! Arrrrrgggghhhh!

  • Awesome. This is the real thing, thank you for posting. :)

  • Awesome, this is the real thing. Thank you for posting this. :)

  • coool man:D i most train on this but got hard to see witch accord:/

  • Do one need a thumb pic to make it sound like this? You are the only one at youtube who can play this correctly, thanks for doing the vid, its awesome!

  • @erik 987987

No need for a thumb pick, but after you learn it - or indeed any fingerpicking song accompaniment - you will find that the thumb pick gives better definition to bass strings on an Acoustic or Electric.

Better to learn a piece without it first and then when you have it memorised add the thumb pick!

  • Outstanding lesson for an outstanding song. Way to go!

  • Good post, really appreciate it

  • woah sounds great... but crap lesson... no ones going to learn it from scratch by watching it half speed... its too complcated for that... you need to explain it.

  • @Hen9207 You're very rude. It's not for beginners dude, it's a frickin' hard song to play!

  • Very nice playing.

It seems that you are playing through the Am Riff twice and then going into playing the Chorus/Riff twice. Is that correct?

  • Also advanced Players should use that teqnique because they can manage to move forward a lot quicker to next song/level, instead of just play 1 million intros :)

  • Brilliant, simply brilliant. 10 stars.. out of 5

  • It's not to hard "mrLocdog18"! The secret to play like this is just to play very slow and one piece at a time, then move forwardand take next piece. With Patience and will you'll make it. And as T.E says; Play only one song/piece until you manage just that one until you begin with another song/piece. /André

  • Your right. I have try to, do it in small piece, and now I can pretty much of it. in good speed :).

Thanks for tip and support :)

  • Do you think even more advanced players only should play/learn one song at a time? I am like, if I hear a fancy riff i learn it, but the bad thing then is that I can play like the half of 10 songs... -.- im sure i could learn about 3-4 songs at the same time, but is it better to learn one at a time? im just unpatient :)

  • I have played guitar for 3 mounths, and boy, do I want to learn this !. But i'm gussing this is way to hard for me ?

  • Thank you, thank you, so very much! And the image of the tab etc is blimmen fantastic! I can't thank you enough :)

  • Maybe this year I'll get it.

  • LOL

  • Thankyou! This is a perfect lesson, been wanting to learn this for ages. But damn it's going to take some hours to pin down, haha.

  • Wow that is difficult!

    Determined to get it though!

  • You will get it, just break it down into small chunks (One bar of music at a time)...And play it so slow that you cannot get it wrong, your fingers will remember as you speed up...but you must have it memorised first ( nobody can play something that they don't know!)

  • That's just what I did. The link to the tab helped...I worked it solid for a few hours and I've got it down now.

Couldn't have done it without you though...many thanks for posting!

  • Thanks, and you too :)

  • GOOD NEWS!: if you search "Jolene original tabs" on pictures on google.. you find it!

  • Can you please remind us all again where the tab is for this? Great Intro

  • My brain hurts after all that lot!

  • I have always thought that this intro is one of the sweetest pieces of guitar ever. Thanks for confirming that it is in fact very tricky. Great Job!

  • any chance you could tab that plz?

  • Hey, i want to play this song as well, but can you perhaps make a lesson for the ''just playing guitar person'' although it is slowly played, its to fast for me. The fingerpicking? to fast.

  • Make a lesson for someone who's "just playing guitar person?" Dude, this is one song most guitarists can't even play, believe me...!

  • Can't believe less than 4000 views. Pefect lesson! Thank you!

  • This is a tough one to play....

  • I have a link of this tab via my profile using photobucket. Enjoy!

  • Only just realized I hadn't subscribed to your channel myself...oops!

    Remedied as of now!

  • I seem to've caused a whole lot of trouble for you.

  • i am out of it today, omg.....and the chord should look like this.....let me actually check this one....ok looks good this time.

    1-G#

    2-E

    3-B

    4-G#

    5-E

    6-G#

  • Yes, drift2drive, you got it!...When a "C" chord "SHAPE" is played at the 4th fret it sounds (and indeed is) an "E" chord.

If you wanted to play a "C" chord at the 4th you would have to play an A flat shape!

  • ok nevermind all of it makes sense now, lesson learned here, think hard before posting... the barred C on E makes perfect sense now. since E F# B are the triads for E

  • ok i just realized i was reading your post wrong after looking at my guitar luke sorry. so the C barre chord would look like this

    1-G#

    2-E

    3-B

    4-G#

    5-E

    6-B

  • Also, if the C chord on the 4th is now called an E, it still does not contain the correct triads for the E either. however i realize that it is possible to get sharps/flats/naturals of the same note in the same scale via modes. so is that how these barre chords fit into theory? triads from modes?

  • Thanks for the reply. I'm going to have to review it with a guitar in front of me when I'm not half asleep :P I actually thought I 'replied' drift2drive's comment about bad tabs.... if C#m was one of the chords, then maybe there's a possibility that the chords were given just without the capo use? I don't know why I care so much :P Its something I'm experimenting with playing lately-playing barred equivalents, but I dont know enough about it to sound like I know anything at all lol thanks again!

  • Your comment was indeed to "drift2drive". I merely replied out of courtesy.

  • luke that is where i get confused with these barre chords. i know they are named by the lowest bass note in the chord however they almost never actually contain the triads that are in the note take the C chord on the 4th fret down there for example. the triad for a C chord is C E G. there are no G's in that chord and furthermore there is not a single sharp note in the C scale. i'm confused. Are triads only relevant at the top of the neck?

  • i appreciate all feedback :)

  • Great job man, you got any tabs for this?

  • I have.

  • could you send it to me?

  • the power tab is available at the ultimate-guitar website. most of the chord versions are wrong it is obvious when watching Dolly's video that the guitarist is playing Am-C-G... not D or C#m or whatever(some people are retarded). you will have to download the powertab software it is free, and very useful. But you can get the tab to this video

  • I agree, a lot of people are ridiculously tone deaf when they think some chords are the exact ones!!

but question: I know because I'm not very experienced with barre chords, not to mention, what note equivalents in the barred form-- but do you know what notes, the Am-C-G progression would be named at the 4th capo? is there any chance it would be D and C#m? Like I said, I just don't know.I would call it the same with using the capo. If you've seen a good site in re: this msg me! thanks

  • Pull up the tab at another guitar website and watch this at the same time, if available, unlikely it wouldnt be. Well played luke, you're the only one to play this right and do it justice so far.

I first heard this song while watching MDP ride on 9ft of fresh powder in while stranded in Chile. The song fit perfectly, 9ft of fresh takes precedence over any woman.

  • post my ocmments freakin youtube!!!!!

  • Every time i try and post the links for the tabs youtube doesnt add my comments wtf?

  • can you please tab this? I've been dying to play this song and im a beginner

  • You can get it from me.

  • Fantastic video :) i know this may sound cheeky, but would be able to actually say the strings you are plucking and also which chords you are holding, i really want to learn it, i'm a begginger so i'm not very good haha take care xx

  • hey i am a beginner i got to know how to play the good ole dolly songs!!!!!!!

  • Same!! This looks too hard though. :s

  • can u pleeeeease tab this out and send it to me or something, i would love you forever XD

  • I understand what u saying there thanks.

iv got hold of a software that slow everything down in ur video, and im checking it out frame by frame,,ill let you know when iv nailed it should be a millenium or two :)

  • just can't get the thumb working like that , man and iv been playing 15 years, great rythm and finger style

  • I think it's a bad habit, but I use the index instead, like the picking method for Dust In The Wind.

  • Luke, this is great! Still, maybe you have any tabs of this? I'd be very happy

    Cheers from Berlin,

    Flo

  • Please Please make just a short tab of this I haven't seen any other vid on youtube that play the fingerstyle, also there aren't tabs of this at ultimate guitar or any others i can find using google!

  • Great job. What kind of guitar?

  • It's a Variac Guitar made by a company called Line 6.

  • Shubb?

    5 stars as always!

  • I find the Shubb to be by far the best Capo around. Kaiser's are all right, if you have to make a quick change, but they aren't adjustable and cause the strings to go sharp at the higher positions!

  • Now if only you could play it slower...

  • Don't be silly, you had it down without me. Glad to assist...

    jason

  • plz can't you tal me ..wath is cordes are you piking plz,,,,?

    i not claiiir

  • Capo on the 4th fret and Am C and G.

  • Is that a banjo pick on your thumb?

  • It's just a standard thumb pick, it can be used with various stringed instruments.

  • Well done Lee. You are now the man. Hope you get lots of hits and I'm glad I could be of help. Cheers. Jason

  • Thanks Jason, hopefully this will help people out a bit.

  • I have to say Lee you are the man. Are you playign in a band?

  • No Steve, its just a hobby of mine. I find playing the Guitar and studying music very relaxing, it beats the hell out of watching TV...Ha ha!!!

  • sweet!

  • Thanks Lubbie177
