That is someone's child. How dare anyone be so rude and callous. People love that child, people grieve for that child.
The reason some choose to keep the pregnancy instead of terminate is because some people don't believe we have the right to kill another human being, even of he isn't perfect. The parents and family got to spend extra months with the baby, hold him and say goodbye instead of aborting him. And I doubt they regret that decision.

My mate and his wife lost their baby to anencephaly. She went full term I guess hoping for a miracle but probably knowing the baby would die. Sadly, the baby did die 5-10 mins after being born. Really sad, I was gutted for them. My mate has the baby's handprint tattoo'd on his shoulder so his son is always with him.

@iyisharose1 If you're referring to Baby K, she only lived for two years because her mother got a court order to force the hospitals to keep her alive on ventilators. Anencephalic babies have no brain (some develop the brain stem which controls basic reflexes) meaning they literally cannot think for themselves, see, hear or feel pain. So it's highly unlikely a child who can see, laugh and feel happiness was born with anencephaly.

She kept the child alive for almost two and a half years. Just think of the suffering, the seizures, and the inability to leave. I agree my cousin gave birth full term knowing it would cause baby even great pain after it had formed all of it's nerve endings. @inflamedturd very rarely does an anencephalic baby gain any kind of response past reflexes (if even that). The far far majority of these babies don't feel anything, will never gain consciousness, and die within a few hours of birth. There have been a few cases where parents have claimed their baby responds to them but it is anecdotal and only pertains to tensing of facial muscles and vocalizations. Most of these babies feel no pain, can't think, and die quickly.

This is wrong. I lost a daughter Skyler 5yrs ago to anencephaly, I found out at 20 weekswhen I was finding out the sex. Its in the same family as spinabifida & its a neural tube defect. I saw people saying they dont know if the baby survived.the answer would be no. Most babies if they make it through the 9 months or delivery die within minutes.The longest ever was a little girl with partial anencephaly that survived for 2 months, part of her brain was still there. My mate and his wife lost their baby to anencephaly. She went full term I guess hoping for a miracle but probably knowing the baby would die. Sadly, the baby did die 5-10 mins after being born. Really sad, I was gutted for them. My mate has the baby's handprint tattoo'd on his shoulder so his son is always with him.

Nicholas Coke, a baby who suffers from this defect, survived past the age of 2. Not sure if he is still alive but he was a miracle. He was not on ventilators. This is such a horrible thing. :( I feel much sorrow for not just the baby, but the family that suffers with him/her.

@iyisharose1 If you're referring to Baby K, she only lived for two years because her mother got a court order to force the hospitals to keep her alive on ventilators. Anencephalic babies have no brain (some develop the brain stem which controls basic reflexes) meaning they literally cannot think for themselves, see, hear or feel pain. So it's highly unlikely a child who can see, laugh and feel happiness was born with anencephaly.

@MegaLamka it can be detected, i suppose the parents felt it wrong to terminate their baby, its a terrible situation for them. but anencephally is incompatible with life anyway, so i doubt that having an abortion would have helped with their greiving, and maybe they wanted to say a proper goodbye to the baby. thats just my take on it i could be wrong...

This child is not a monster. Nor is it a mistake. Something went wrong genetically and that is not its fault. Have you no heart? Have you taken into consideration the feelings of the parents? Of the mother, who's hope, as like all mothers, is to have a happy, healthy baby. Yet she had to live with the fact that her child would never grow to walk, speak, or live. My feelings would be sadness of course and guilt, however, I believe that I would also be thankful to God for not allowing the child to live and I would draw great strength in knowing that innocent babies are immediately with God in Heaven after death and they are whole and perfect, living in Utopia so wonderful you can't even imagine. @birdmanband123456 I fully agree with you. It's like with the case of Baby K. Her mom knew she was deformed and knew that she was going to be an anencephalic baby, but she refused to abort her. She kept the child alive for almost two and a half years. Just think of the suffering, the seizures, and the inability to leave. I'm not going to go into God and souls and stuff like that, but she was ready to die and her mom just kept her alive. It's really sad, but I get where the mom was coming from.

I agree my cousin gave birth full term knowing it would cause baby even great pain after it had formed all of it's nerve endings. She is a sick person for delivering the child full term - had a funeral and a gravestone - I think she liked the attention. She has had other complications as well but kept on making babies. People like that should be charged with criminal misconduct, it's not a crime to have a crippled baby but to cause the torment for the infant is evil.
