  • When was this performance?

  • @marshmallowyeeah It was a charity performance around 1986. I still have it on video somewhere.

  • @JimShadyUK oh my goodness are you sure? She looks a lot older. Very good performance though. Thanks!

  • @marshmallowyeeah I'm sure, dude - I was still at school then! She has a very changeable look, depending on what angle you see her from.

  • Who is the bass player? His chops and fills are fantastic!

  • I would like to know, What is the song telling us about?? anyone.. Such a Fantastic song..

  • Such a spiritual song.

  • Amazing! Kate is so brilliant and it's such a treat to see her sing such an amazing song live.

  • The little Kate and drummer moment. <3

  • Strikes the heart

  • I like the contact between them all. The little smiles between David and kate and the drummer.

  • The mullets...dear god the mullets...

  • wow

  • Who's the drummer?

  • She's perfect. She's platonic love and I'm 17.

  • Brilliant!!

  • When did this take place?

  • @eclectica1 1987. The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball.

  • how on earth can 170 dislike this video?? I think they need to run up that hill....and keep running!

  • Awesome !

  • An awesome Kate Bush 80's classic featuring David Gilmour on guitar and backing vocals!

  • I didn't know that back in the 80's female pop singers were allowed to sing with their clothes on, and sell albums!

  • @floyded13 Quality comment matey.......Totally agreed. Let their voices sell their music.

  • thats how to sing live, and with the master gilmour on the guitar, up the floyd!

  • Hey! Lady Gaga, Keisha, and all you other wannabe singers, listen to Kate's voice and take a fuckin note!!! This is how a person should sing, with a voice that is NOT like nails on a fuckin blackboard!!!!

  • Outstanding! my favourite "Running up that Hill" Beautifullly played. David Gilmour is a master in his art.

  • This song is absolutely brilliant and this performance with Gilmour is fantastic! Glad i stumbled upon it.

  • Is that the girl from Heart? HA HA

  • @Sscreamingdizbuster No this is Kate Bush. The two main singers of Heart were the two sisters Ann Wilson Nancy Wilson.

  • Everyone shut up. I love this video. That's it, and that's all.

  • lovve ittttt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kate Bush + Dave Gilmour = Outstanding.

She has more talent in her little finger than Lady Gaga, Pink, Beyonce & even Madonna! But hell she's not an American. But she is a legend.

  • @NCW250 She is the rose of Bexleyheath :D

  • @NCW250 why does her not being american have anything to do with how good she is :/

  • @NCW250

It's wrong to compare Kate Bush to modern pop stars.

The sad thing is that today's corporate shit that gets pumped out, is swallowed up so fast that the people who buy that shit are buying a brand, the music is a by-product.

They have no idea about music, and to even mention someone like Kate Bush in the same sentence as Pink is a fucking disgrace.

"World Changing" music is extinct now, like the dinosaurs, we remember it, we respect it, but it's gone, and don't give a fuck. N-Dubz????

  • We all felt it. We all thought this way.

  • 3:14 pizza

  • DG and KB it's magic!

  • It is a crime that this is the only live performance of RUTH.

  • Kate is so beautiful when she looks over and smiles at David Gilmour - what a classy lady!

  • Such a lady, and lovely she is still. I wonder, does she paint?

  • The best female songwriter and singer ever. As stated by mrchris, she is divine. And I like Blackscorpy's comment "...all while looking like a school teacher...."

  • Dear Mr Mullethead, as a connoisseur of the mid eighties mullet, I feel that I must commend you wholeheartedly, for your choice of the mullet that you are sporting here, it really is the business. And as for David ? definitely a good choice with his middle ages type mullet, circa, (England ) 1314, Finally, and as regards to Kate, she is divine...............
  • The Bass players personification of a mullet

    could launch a thousand ships,

    and he probably has.

    As for Kate ?

she has definitely launched a thousand hearts,

    and then some.

  • David Gilmour has created some of the best music ever in the history of mankind with Pink Floyd, and as a solo artist, but I just don't feel this one. He does a much better job with Kate on "The Love And The Anger" IMO a much better song. This song sounds 80's cheesy. Although is good that they were having a good time with it.

  • childhood

  • Wonderful, you can see the enjoyment they have playing together and for each other. Thanks for posting this!

  • Tony Franklin on Bass.

  • awesome video,,thank you for uploading it.

  • E tam wersja W.T. <3 lepsza !!

  • Love this song.. on a side note... Mullets Ruled the 80's.

  • Looks like a school teacher

  • @Mattitude691 As much as I love Kate Bush, I must agree with you lol.

  • @Mattitude691 hahaah that's true...I wish my school teachers were like her....

  • @Mattitude691 Mid 80s: You can be a top-notch rock solo artist with n.1 albums, have Gilmour of Pink Floyd on guitar & backing vocals and throw an awesome live show... all while looking like a school teacher and having the definition of a mullet playing the bass. :D

  • @SouthsideofGlasgow hahaha what a great example! hahaha

  • I like this live version better than the studio version!

  • @Tiwaking I agree, I like this LIVE version much more than the Studio version....!

  • Kate Bush war meine Musik vor 30 Jahren ! Verbunden mit sehr schönen priv Erinnerungen! David Gilmore wird neben Mark knopfler meine Musik Zeit meines Lebens sein!!!!

  • Fantastic woman!!!

  • When did Kate Bush go from smoking hot to soccer mom like she looks in this video?

  • @mmmfloorpie Never. Because she is still smoking hot. It's what's inside. Didn't you know, sex is all in the head? You will find out .....

  • @SouthsideofGlasgow And how awesome would that be?

  • Ah, we are millions. Just came back to reiterate ... this is great. Anyone involved in music that didn't exist before the performers walked on stage should acknowledge that. No laptops, no backing tracks.

  • What decade was this? (sees bassist's hair) Oh, yeah. Cool vid.

  • this is so fantastic. i love the guitar with her live vocals.

  • She is cute ! I remember her videos "Wurthering Heights" and "Man with the Child in his Eyes" being played frequently on the early days of MTV.

  • I love Gilmour and Bush, but really, this is a pretty weak collaboration considering how incredible they are apart, also how incredible the original version of this song is. Disappointing to me, who loves them both. Still, better than some of Kate Bush's other collaborations, or covers (e.g., Placebo).

  • This is pure quintessential eighties. Magnificent. I miss that decade :(

  • Dave Gilmour was one of Kate's mentors when she was starting out.

  • Trés magnific

  • Love kate!

  • Kate is a genius, so's Gilmour, He's actually the one who discovered her talent

  • Terrific...Gilmour n Kate!!!

  • @SouthsideofGlasgow he was the one who"discovered" her when she was 16 or 17 and gave her a record deal

  • Duo incroyable de talent ! Ce coté lancinant que j'adore ...

  • amazing song. ty

  • Great song!!

  • NEW PROGRESSIVE ROCK BAND TYPE ''INNERSPACEBAND'' ON FACEBOOK. THANK YOU

  • Great female artist I wish she would have done more concerts. I would like to see her in live concert.

  • i dont know whats more impressive ? this song or the bass players mullet !!! lol

  • Ma che figata

  • brillant voix à la perfection auteur compositeur interprete et tres belle et sensuelle en plus david à la guitare et aux chants et oui kate david gilmour pink floyd peter gabriel que du beaux mondes

  • outstanding

  • Anyone capable of writing this song is a genius. Let alone someone who can also sing it, and perform it to perfection with dance....Kate Bush is one of those artists that does it ALL.

  • If I remember correctly, this is from one of the SECRET POLICEMAN'S BALL fundraisers for Amnesty International -- 1981, I think. She was and still is absolutely unique, eclectic, original and fantastic.

  • Kate is a female musical genius i love her songs this live version of this song is amazing..........

  • In my next life i want to be Kate

  • OK if I keep playing this over and over and over, will I ever tire of it? answer: no.

  • You are the biggest prince in the Universe for posting this! WOW!!!

  • Placebo fucken shreds this version...

  • @Mitchbitchh This version? She wrote the song mate.

  • who is the bassist?

  • @ingesto3

    I don't know but that haircut's a fuckin' tragedy.

  • @ingesto3 I think its tony franklin

  • I heard once that it was about a near-death experience....try that frame of reference when you listen to it...

  • Gilmour is the one who discovered her

  • Check out the version done by Spleen utd and The William Blakes as well..

  • This is one of the best live performances I´ve ever heard.

  • When was this filmed I didn't think midi guitars existed back then, or what else is this contraption?

  • @esdenaze It's not a midi guitar, it's a Steinberger GL, headless guitar. Google it.

  • @exit209 Ah ok cheers, never heard of it before.

  • From one of the best albums ever. The Hounds of Love. The 2nd side, The Ninth Wave is mindblowing.

  • @andrew36345 wrong

  • @raspberryhorse it is better, because it can add a certain ambience to any situation

  • @andrew36345 no

  • Didn't Gilmour help her get her first break into EMI? One more great gift to music from David.

  • @FloydyTube Yes :-)

  • beautiful

  • das beste Gitarist der Welt !

  • I recall the MTV video being much different than the one you can pull up on here. It had her band beside her in a "climbing up that hill" type of theme. Too bad I can't see that one as well. Dave and Kate..........a great combo.

  • 161 ppl want fucking I think that's the technical term

  • we've made a remix to the placebo cover of this song, if you're interested in dubstep search for "running up that hill - placebo (dubstep remix)" i think you'll like it, apologies for wasting your time if you don't!

  • A voice without musical enhancement. It is becoming rare.

  • This is one of the best songs ever written...The lyrics, the production. OMG I love this song!!!

  • beauty and the monster.. monster in the good sense of the word... what "monsters" this 2 are, eternal... Kate & Gilmour forever!!!

  • that smile, that smile... 3:44

  • The bass player's haircut.

  • We survived 80s hair. Let's all just celebrate that for a second.

  • Let's face it- this does NOT improve in any respect on the studio version, neither in terms of Kate nor the guitars. Kate Bush should go down in history as a great craftswoman and studio performer where she hones an album over several years but live stuff is not her forte which is probably why she has mostly lip synched on TV shows through her career, concentrating on an 'acting' performance. There are great examples of these acts though like when she performed Experiment IV to a studio audience.

  • @Picnicl She was a beautiful live performer, and this performance took nothing from her as an artist. Still, she was a dancer as well as a singer. And then, she was never comfortable with a live performance

  • @Picnicl You obviously have no ear for Instruments or music for that matter!

  • @Picnicl Gilmour's Playing is beyond reproach! His playing and backing vocals compliment her vocals nicely.

  • @ZombieOrchestra I disagree.Gilmour's playing comes across as cheesily 80s.That's alright- it's kind of part of his charm but this performance does not have the truly magical, dynamic, haunting quality of the album version. The album version does indeed seem touched by God and it will have been crafted over a long time so you would expect that it would be better. But it is MUCH better- her production skills are outstanding.Gilmour was much better on Rocket's Tail from The Sensual World.

  • Drawn back here again .... I just love this.

  • cant think of anyone Id rather have transposing my synth to guitar lead ......

  • kate was a fox, love her so much

  • 161 people can't run up that hill.

  • An epic one. Can't stop watching it. :)

    BTW:

/watch?v=OzV4v8l8L-g <-- If you have some time for my new indie rock instrumental.

  • She's such a talented cutie.

  • david and the fender?????

  • love to come across rarities like this

  • Bush + Pink Floyd

  • Holy 80's hair Batman! still. i want this song played at my funeral.

  • Fantastic performance. Must say though that the Placebo cover does it serious justice.

  • @webbhead92 Agreed! :)

  • she is so beautiful

  • 161 people made a deal with the devil

  • Some say this song is about sex, kate says its about two people, one man and one woman, and if only they could swap places for a day, the man would understand why we argue with the ones we love, and the woman would understand why a man argues witht he one he loves, the point being. Men are from mars, women are from venus:) we're both fundamentally different beings. We cold sort out so much if we could swap places with our respective others! Thats the true meaning of the song.

  • @dublintoffee Hey dude you need to cut back on the reefer were do you get your information....

  • Respond to this video... Would have loved to see David Gilmore @ Kate bush

  • @dublintoffee Don't think the mars/venus-thing is exactly what she means, just that we are all different individuals.

  • @dublintoffee ah... i guess it makes perfect sense...

  • Comment removed

  • @dublintoffee oh no!i dont believe that man and woman are from the same galaxy!

  • ...cool. I ll be a better understanding man from now on. Seriously.

  • @gaae2000 Wish you all the best in you endeavor.

  • Superb.

  • many thanks to whoever put this video on youtube. ı'm so grateful, thanks. Music is essential to keep sanity in this insane world

  • @vishiquals Word up. This is the kind of unique artist that can't come out these days. I bet people still buy her albums.

  • Kate with David?! Very interesting combo.

  • David.... better than them all.

  • Great, I really don't understand some of you high minded critics, you wish you could write and perform such a song and with David Gilmour no less. Jealousy will eat you alive. You're not qualified to help this artist put her shoes on! What great thing have you done in your lifetime? Kate Bush is a unique extremely creative artist. Your criticism of the music industry should not fall on her. Maybe if you were talking about Poison or Def Leppard I might agree with you!
