This video raises some good points, but does not add that when choosing a leader a nation has to be VERY careful as to who is given power, as there are almost no checks and balances as almost complete power is given to the leader. A fascist nation can either prosper, or turn into just another military dictatorship. Fascism can also be turned wrong if power is not chosen carefully, because the government can decide what counts "harmful to society at large" but this can also happen in other gov.s

Mussolini could have kept Fascism with a decent image had he not joined the Allies. Franco never formally joined the Axis but allowed his troops to volunteer. This is not to say Franco was great, but do you hear him getting as bad a rep as the other two?

Although I disagree with fascism political philosophy. People often associate fascism with Hitler and Mussolini. However they were not "Pure" fascist by any means. In same respect that Lenin and Stalin did not represent "pure" communism. Similarly, America is not a "pure" democracy. They are all quasi forms of they're inspiration but not representative of they're true ideology.

Second, it is very telling of a system's merit that it can never be properly or successfully implemented. The reason we'll never have pure fascism or pure communism is because they too easily fall into the corrupted versions we know from history. It's too thin a line, too easily crossed.

With regards to political philosphy, what needs to be examined thoroughly is the ideal vs the reality because the fact is, with both communism and fascism, there is a sad history of human rights abuse, which is a massive understatement. In my opinion, one of the key components of fascism is very troubling. A national identity is very important; however, a strong global persepctive is also important. Historically, fascism has perpetuated inequalties through nationalism and a ignorant majority.

American Capitalism perpetuates many inequalities as well and the element of profit has only subjugated the lower stratum of people, but this isn't a discourse on any particular society. One of my problems with fascism is the nationalist element. You mentioned the voting discrimination of blacks, but that in itself roots through nativist attitudes which all stem from nationalism.

@cornel10 Can you really compare all "dictators" to Ceausescu? Wasn't he mostly a puppet to communist Soviet? A leader is someone who takes responsibility for his leadership. And through the course of history, in monarchies at least, there has been some kind of way to make the king abdicate if he didn't fullfill his duties. So the 1900's probably can't be held as the only yardstick when it comes to "single rulers", especially the communist ones, I suspect.

He was the only president of the Eastern bloc, which opposed the invasion of Czechoslovakia, the Czechoslovak revolution of 1968. He even had the nerve to oppose the Russians to those events. You and I may have some slighly different views as far as the economy and government is run, but politically and socially I think you and I can both agree that all that is done, personal freedoms aside, need to be done for the greater good of the whole society, and that capitalism is the reason for all of the world's problems.

We can both agree that when power is put in the hands of the few (the problem with many forms of fascism and communism), trouble occurs.
