John is a man who embodies dreams. His music allows our dreams to manifest into our hearts and for some become reality. John's music lives in the hearts who have seen the things and have felt the things he laments. John Denver will live as long as we live to dream magical dreams and dream to believe that magic is still alive.
I can't put into words how much I love this man's music. As a musician myself I just try to play with the same passion and inspiration that he played with...i really miss him but am thankful his music lives on!!
This song, gives me very vivid memories of my childhood, I'm 39 and I remember my primary school teacher would play this song to all of the children in class, brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it.
@almdunadan ~ what a wonderful memory! How very special. I remember hearing this song the first time. I felt like I was on that ship, swaying, sailing...
im just crying my eyes out. can you imagine what jaque cousteu, steve irwin, and john denver could have accomplished all together? I guess it's up to us now!!
This song was played over the ship's sound system of the USS Coronado during refueling of ships in the Persian Gulf in the early 1980's. When the crew heard this and the shotline guns firing they knew what the evolution was without further announcement.
Great Job. I've been a fan of John Denver since I was a child. My first ever concert was John Denver when I was in Junior High School in Virginia mid '70's. I've seen him several times since and enjoyed his corny humor on TV. His words seemed to be his life, his life seemed to be one that was lived.
Everyone Dies, But Not Everyone Truly Lives....... John Lived.
This may be my favorite JD song. It helped inspire my love for the ocean and all of the earth and created an early interest in earth science for me. John's words are words I still live by - "to be true as the tide and free as a windswell, joyful and loving in letting it be." Thank you, John. Some of the best parts of me are because of you.
Every song John sang had meaning and feeling and especially ones like Calypso! I watched the TV story of this journey he had with Mr. Coustou and it was fantstic! Love you John and miss you so much!
John is still with us, as is Jacques Cousteu. I'ts not all rest on the other side, who do you think is inspiring us NOW in these esp trying times???Namaste xxxx
On this date in 1997, we lost John Denver. Though you are gone, your music, your work, your memory and your soul will continue on forever. Now more than ever, all of us through out the world, need to keep the spirit, the dedication and the work of John Denver, Steve Irwin and Jacques Cousteau going on, forever.

@almdunadan Awesome to know. Thanks for that! My father server in the war on a minesweeper but never talked about it. Exploring the oceans and sea life was a much better use of the calypso!
@almdunadan An old Master Chief I worked with in the Marshall Islands spent most of his Navy carrier on Minesweepers. His favorite saying was..... " Iron men on wooden ships."
The correct spelling Jacques, pronounced like Jock.. It's French.
Rest in peace to John Denver and Jacques Cousteau, two true natural lovers. Thank you, the Cousteau family for keeping our oceans vibrant and still alive.
MARLIN PERKINS BEGAN MY INTRODUCTION TO THE ANIMALS OF THE ANIMALS OF HOME AND OUTSIDE IN THE WORLD, ONCE HE VISITED WITH JACQUES COUSTEAU AND SEEMINGLY THE WHOLE REST OF THE WORLD CAME INTO VIEW. JON DENVER CAME IN TO PULL THEM TOGETHER AND TOUCH MY HEART WITH THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN PLATEAU AND PLAIN. THEN MORE RECENTLY I SAW JACQUES COUSTEAU AND HIS SON ON A VIDEO ON THE CALYPSO TOGETHER . IT WAS SO VERY TOUCHING AND INTERESTING , ESPECIALLY WITH FATHER AND SON.
I saw jaques son speak and a student asked where "did his family take vacations growing up". He laughed and said my whole life has been a vacation! What a life!
Jacques Cousteau made me become a diver and an educator I think that this is the very best tribute to the greatest man God blessed us with . Thank You John Go lovingly into Gods tender hands
Not only did I respect the work of Jacques Cousteau, I also appreciate the musical talent of John Denver.
I find it impossible to sit through this song and remain dry-eyed. -- not out of sadness, but from the sheer joy of listening to this beautiful, uplifting song. The sound of the bell and the sight of that tiny baby sea turtle -- well -- pardon me for being melodramatic, but I practically lose it every time I hear it.
@nadinesdream -- I'm glad my comment uplifted you. Believe me, there's nothing like the tears of joy from a beautiful song to release pressures from outside.
This brings back a lot of memories. I had the privilege to stand on the deck of the Calypso many years back as she toured the Mississippi River after Cousteau died. It is something I will never forget.
I loved this song as a child and remember all those Cousteau movies from school. That started the diving habit I will not give up until I physically cannot. Thankyou, Jacques Cousteau :)
I have never realised how good many things were in life until they were taken away from me, much like I never realised how good a singer John Denver was until he died. He`s gone but not forgotten :)
i turned this song on and its so moving that i started jumpin and spinning around my room dreaming about dancing to this song with my certain someone it was amazing i could just see his face UNTIL i tripped over some clothes on the floor and fell and cracked my head :/ how romantic :/ i shall never dance in a skirt again :/ O WELL I LOVE THIS SONG EVEN THOUGH IM A TEENAGER!!!!! JOHN DENVER IS AMAZING!!!!
I think we often forget Jacques Cousteau, who's life inspired John to write this song. This is more a tribute to Jacques than to John, who was incredible in his own right. John was the Eagle and Hawk, Jacques was the dolphin and the fish......Thanks to you all!
@TheQueposfan I agree. Captain Cousteau whose S.C.U.B.A. gear and filming of the world under the sea opened the eyes of so many of us who had never experienced the beauty beneath the waves. John rode the wind while Jacques glided among the waves.
I sing this song everytime I'm overwhelmed with happiness. Out loud even! Especially the "ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo" part at the end of every chorus! But I don't care, it expresses every happy emotion one can have. Nothing like the thrill of the open sea, the brisk sea air, the rustle of wind in the sails... and nothing quite like the truthful lyricism and melodious voice of John Denver, of course!
PS: it's spelled "Jacques Cousteau."
From a French-American John Denver fan, sailor, and country boy.
I LOVE THIS SONG!! THE WORLD WILL NEVER SEE THE LIKES OF ANYONE CLOSE TO THE LYRICS AND VOICE OF JOHN DENVER!! I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY TO HAVE HEARD HIS VOICE AND CHERISH IT EACH AND EVERY TIME I PLAY IT!! REST IN PEACE BROTHER !
I am so glad to be age I am (49) truly to have had the joy of experiencing beautiful pieces of music on the radio when they were new. When music let you "soar"
I loved to hear John Denver sing and I loved to watch the Cousteu tv specials. This was one of John Denver's best. It ranks up there with Rocky Mtn. High!
@cruiserweight190 ...so do I my friend...so do I. I was able to attend a couple of his concerts in orlando many years ago. Awesome entertainer, singer and song writer.
@musclecarluvr1 Jacques Cousteau. Jacques Cousteau was the other guy in the video. He was the captain and owner of the Calypso, a famous marine biology ship.
@Misty14Cloud Yes I know. Should've included him too, I have so much respect for him. May he R.I.P., I learned so much from his deep-sea explorations. However I was a huge fan of Steve Irwin. He taught us to respect and appreciate Earth's critters, and not be afraid. Thnx 4 ur messege :)
@rorybowskill You think too deeply. Could be the dislikers, young as most of them probably are, don't even know who Cousteau was. They might simply not care for the music.
I know its unpleasant to expose one's dirty linen in public, but this is the truth - in the Philippines, dolphins are caught and sliced into meat for consumption, there is a law that its illegal, but seldom implemented, we are nearing the 100million mark in population, and anything that is not poisonous is fair game, must be eaten, and the catholic church is blocking the family planning, pity the poor dolphins, maybe the catholic church would provide their for thei9r sperm for whales to populate
We in the older generation got to watch the 1hr long shows of Jacues Cousteau with the saucer diving submersabile and in the more shallows he dove with his boys and the film footage would cross the United states twice. Question ! What was Caylpso original built for? And give some details. I will grade you later.
@padude64 Hey..I know how you feel..and it's good to find a song like this, so you can release your frustrations via a video and that special song you shared-Trust in the
Higher Power, to take care of things- send me a message if you care to!
@DonaldHope Excellent and the greatest advice you could ever give to...a loved one,a friend and even a complete stranger!! to see and feel the pain of others, and in return, give right a truthful advice....God calls that (compassion)...trust in the Lord with all your Heart, all your Mind and all your Soul!! cast all your worries and troubles upon the Lord!
Not going to waste my time reading of the earlier posts because apparentley there are punks in here that don`t appreciate the life and work of Jacques Coustou and the tribute John Denver gave him in a one hour special on a Sunday night special in the early seventys that was impresonable to me as a teen or I would not have seeked this out tonight. Jacque Coustou invented the aqua-lung that has allowed millions of people enjoy the oceans, work in it or just save lives in it.
John Denver, beautifully clear voice and lyrics. Loved his work even when cynical idiots said he was 'uncool' I hope you now realise who was uncool my friends.
Jaques Cousteau, the first of his kind. Great work with wildlife and responsible for me sitting on the edge of my seat one winter with my polo-neck sweater pulled over my mouth in fits of hysterics at his footage of penguins jumping out of the water.
@GalDriver1 I have to agree whole heartily. I feel in love with John Denver music as a teenagers and have never stopped loving it, and never will.
Mr Cousteau, brought the worlds oceans to are lives, can remember sitting and watching every special he had on it was a family night in front of the TV.
Both tried to save are world in their own ways. It is to bad we didn't listen.
It is such a beautiful song. While I am puzzled that why there are 45 dislikes, I do respect their choices and tastes. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
@Funksploitation ...what an aberration your post represents ....the internet should implode, so that foul mouths like U* have no chance to make comment....
@sheavepin People should understand that YouTube has an artificial intelligence engine. If a person does not sometimes press dislike, they cannot educate the engine as to what they want to hear. People pressing dislike just have different tastes from you. This is not a disrespect to the artist or the music. I love this song personally, but everyone has the right to their own tastes. Live and let live.
I have loved John Denver for over 30 years! His voice represents hope to me, and the things that he sings about are things that I love.....the mountains, nature, the West to name a few. He was taken from us much too early. I still miss you Johnny D!!!!!!
The late John Denver had a true gift and a wonderful musical talent that will touch people for generations to come. His voice never needed studio "touching up" and he was absolutely brilliant live - whether he performed in a small, intimate venue or in a stadium backed by a huge philharmonic orchestra!
I first heard this song on a Jacques Cousteau special where John Denver was diving with the Couteau team. It was great then and is still great. Both John Denver and Jacques Couteau were uniques talented individuals and the worl is a much lesser place for their passing, but also a much better place for their having ben here. It was also a gig factor in encouraging me to learn to Scuba dive and learn to teach Scuba diving.
@PerfectBlister You know, I think that sometimes people don't post maybe because they think that what they day doesn't matter -- but people should read your post and see that it does matter. You're absolutely right -- both men made the world a better place.
I LOVE THIS SONG ITS SOO PEACEFUL AND I WOULD HAVE LOVED T MEET JOHN DENVER HE SEEMS LIKE HE IS A REAL GENTLEMAN, IT SADDEN MY HEART HE GOT DIVORCE, I DNT UNDERSTAND Y BUT I WOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT HIM.
Well I must say... I have to agree with 47GreenBeret.... My mom was the one that was the JD (John Denver) fanatic ... and as I was growing up ... every album was listened to over and over and over... then duplicates of the albums to 8 track so we could listen in the car. I was dragged to several of his concerts growing up.... but ya know ... his music has given me peace in my heart when I needed it .. when I have been away from home JD as we referred to him kept me there. Forever John will be
Dedicated to All those I Am Praying for in My <3 of God.
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so ...that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.
54 year old grumpy , street wise ex armyman, yet when I ear this song and Both Sides Now by Judy Collins , I crack every time, beautiful voices, beautiful songs, beautiful people.
thank you John for the songs you gave us long live John Denver RIP :)

Before 'disliking' consider this.....without the likes of Jaques Cousteau there would never have been Jaws. The Deep etc so who's fluffy hippy now?
Comfy armchair or risk death to explore........those who can do...those who are too scared just dislike and post troll comments.
rorybowskill 8 months ago 6
@rorybowskill You think too deeply. Could be the dislikers, young as most of them probably are, don't even know who Cousteau was. They might simply not care for the music.

I heard he was attacked by a shark that he thought was a porpoise/dolphin and he tried to pet and kiss it on the nose when it surfaced.

Betweenlostandfound1 10 months ago 5
John Denver, beautifully clear voice and lyrics. Loved his work even when cynical idiots said he was 'uncool' I hope you now realise who was uncool my friends.
Jaques Cousteau, the first of his kind. Great work with wildlife and responsible for me sitting on the edge of my seat one winter with my polo-neck sweater pulled over my mouth in fits of hysterics at his footage of penguins jumping out of the water.
We take those sort of images for granted now.
GalDriver1 10 months ago 2
@GalDriver1 I have to agree whole heartily. I feel in love with John Denver music as a teenagers and have never stopped loving it, and never will.
Mr Cousteau, brought the worlds oceans to are lives, can remember sitting and watching every special he had on it was a family night in front of the TV.
Both tried to save are world in their own ways. It is to bad we didn't listen.

JEMCO2008 11 months ago
@sheavepin People should understand that YouTube has an artificial intelligence engine. If a person does not sometimes press dislike, they cannot educate the engine as to what they want to hear. People pressing dislike just have different tastes from you. This is not a disrespect to the artist or the music. I love this song personally, but everyone has the right to their own tastes. Live and let live.

I have loved John Denver for over 30 years! His voice represents hope to me, and the things that he sings about are things that I love.....the mountains, nature, the West to name a few. He was taken from us much too early. I still miss you Johnny D!!!!!!

smwarner73 11 months ago

PerfectBlister 11 months ago
@PerfectBlister You know, I think that sometimes people don't post maybe because they think that what they day doesn't matter -- but people should read your post and see that it does matter. You're absolutely right -- both men made the world a better place.
And so do you, By teaching scuba diving.
