Can't express how much I LOVE this song and Elis Regina. Outside of Joao Gilberto, there's no other singer whose voice, alone, personifies the music like Elis. Don't think the art would have been the same if these two never embraced it.
@jhbdfbksdhgfjldsnglg it was about the Brazilian carnival. elis said that the carnival was not the same, but there was a certain sweetness in its samba that most people do not realize. The song "É com esse que eu vou" ("It is with this [samba] that I will") was written by a man but as it was told by a slave who wanted to celebrate with the piano of her mistress. Search on the term cabrocha ("brown girl"). This song talks about freedom and only the Brazilians can understand it.

No dude, Elis in this time 60's didn't get drugs like cocaine at last. She gets involved with drugs on the end of 70's years. Don't talk about it .. you are very uninformed
That time, Brasil was inside a terrific Military dictatorial regime. Including almost country's from South America like Chile and Argentina. This Regimes was supported by USA governments. Was the "Cold war" against communism. A lot great artists and journalists was forced to get out from South America. A lot was tortured, arrested and killed by the Regime. It was really a sad moment for us.
