  • sounds so good. wish i could follow haha

  • half way trough you got carried away

  • The best, most simple explanation I've seen. thanks

  • he stole my guitar

  • His first part of the explanation is spot on, and if you close your eyes when listening he even has the great mans tone. I will be honest though and admit he lost me once he went into the chord sequence and his explanation was not as clear as at the beginning.

    Good vid though.

  • He is one of best playing Hendrix on here.

  • you fucking got it!!!!

  • fantastic !

  • Thank you so much. This helped me a lot. I was confused on how to play this for the longest time, but i had somewhat of an idea and this helped

  • Thanks.

  • So much better being taught from an Englishmen!

  • whats the lick you play in the verse right after the E?

  • don't know if anyone else noticed but it really doesn't sound like jimi's version. partly too much twang on the strings you need to have a soft strumming motion and picking motion to create a good sound and it wasn't timed like jimi's version either.no offense meant. good lesson though.

  • Please make one where you tell what you play after the intro, After the hammer-on thing on the seventh fret, because i'm really lost.

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO KEEP 'EM COMING :)

  • great lesson1 Also check out Robert Dean's guitar teaching vids on youtube

  • SUPER

  • wish you would show more up close so we can see.

  • the only critisim i have on this lesson is that the fret board isn't zoomed in, it would make it a lot easier, i was relying on instruction, luckily it was very good instruction...

  • Nice . Thanx.

  • hey can someone please tell what 2 chords these are from 2:00 to 2:03

  • @Yamato93me it's a D triad, flatten your first first finger across the D-G-B strings at 7th fret (playing the fifth, root & third). then hammer on the D string 9th ftret to play the sixth degree.. hope this helps

  • @JOHNNYG99X thank u ,helped very much =) an great play between

  • @JOHNNYG99X what is the strumming pattern you do durring this same part?

  • Great Play !!!

But lesson could be better :(

  • Can you please direct me to tabs for this please? For this specific version, I've seen many but none like this!

  • @LukeWardy sorry no tabs !

  • nice guitar :)

  • great lesson thanks

  • i love your tone man... may i ask what you use for distortion? amp? pedal? and great lesson btw

  • what are u playing at 2:29 i cant really tell what cord it is and what strumming

  • me gustarian subtitulos :)

  • This version of Hey Joe that is played here by this guy is FUCKING AMAZING!!!!

  • can u send me tabs please?

  • I don't get when he says D, on the B string. Wha...

  • @Joey6327 He's referring to the 3rd Fret on the 2nd sting. The seond string open is B....1st Fret = C, 2nd Fret is D-flat & the 3rd is D. Then he slides it to the 5th Fret E which is also the 1st string open.

  • This is great as a start, what about all of those melodic voicings Jimi did. I watched one of his videos and man it is complicated as hell. Not just straight bar chords.

  • @zgolijan What a dumb comment!! This is a great instructional video, not once did I hear him say he could could pull off the great mans feel, and style!!

  • could you make another lesson of this song please? i mean more detailed and for dummies like me , i cant find any cover and lesson better than yours. thank you

  • very great lesson man!!

  • Excellent tutorial, one of the best I've seen. Thanks

  • Music, Sweet Music drops from your fingers! Bravo, Man ! I saw Hendrix live in Chicago when I was 17, and the ringing of those strings made it all come back. You gave me goosebumps. Thanks!

  • is there a tab available for the bar7th piece .

  • nice guitar

  • nice to see an english guy doing one of these videos, im not hating on americans but i just think its good to see someone from the UK playing music and doing something good for once! brilliant video!

  • british accent

  • @siryang21 No shit, Sherlock

  • Here's the answer to actually learning the guitar on utube. Go to Justinguitar it's free and he has his own web page with detailed explanations. I agree with you most of these people get off own their own little world and leave you out there somewhere.

  • Hi Johnny, I am a subsciber. If you get some time, you mind doing a "Hear My Train A Comin" tutorial, since you cover Hendrix so well? The acoustic version is in Drop C tuning but can't seem to pick up on the jest of the tune.

  • thats a fucking awesome lesson man, made it so simple

  • you fail to explain the part where he does the hammer-on crap on the 7th fret

  • God damn dude. That is tasty. Many props for showing that and learning it. Jimi breathed life into that song. <3 Hendrix

  • hey what are you playing from 2:49 - to 2:54 ? sounds so good!

  • hey what are you playing from 2:49 - to 2:54 ? sounds so good!

  • Best teacher I think

  • wow,...Jimi would be proud of you. thanks so much

  • Thanks a lot! Your very good at guitar

  • awesome lesson nobody is doing it like you

  • Magnifique leçon de guitare. Vous rendez Jimi Hendrix accessible au plus grand nombre et ceci n'a pas de prix.

    Merci encore

  • Excellent lesson, and because of it I've found something out that I didn't know before. At 2:09 where Jimi ends the main riff and does that thing at the 7th fret da dum da da dum - it's exactly the riff to Whole Lotta Love. I think Page discovered that while Jamming to hey Joe and used it as the main riff to his song

  • @demravager yeh i thought that aswell

  • Thank yoy, great lessons. Realy appreciate your work. Keep it coming.

  • wonderfrul !

  • fantastic playing

  • Dude... I love your playing, but you B barre chord form keeps flipping us the bird!

  • love the tone

  • Ditto. Was just thinking the same thing as I was listening.

  • Great lesson, wish all lessons made it that clear. I'll be playing this song a LOT!

  • Good stuff!!

  • I grew up in Seattle in the 1960's and was invited to a party by a black school mate at his house which was in a neighborhood accross town. Most of the fellows there were black. I hung with a few guys I knew. I felt cool but a bit out of place. After a while Jimi Hendrix walked into the yard and over to a group of people he knew. He looked happy, clear, confident and relaxed. After about 30 minutes he left. Anything seemed possible in the 60's long ago but this was amazing to us.

  • i hope i learn to play it as good as you, johnny. thanks for the lesson...

  • dude what pickups ya got on that guitar and the lesson was very helpful tto :P

  • Really helpful, thank you!

  • That was awesome! Sounds great!

  • You should really consider playing in a hendrix cover band, you have all the feeling behind it, I can SEE it... you're not parroting hendrix, this song means something to you!

Thanks so much for the lesson, and your dedication!

  • i like your lessons the most, other people just dont click for me, or they're not playing it in a way that sounds good. you win!

  • hola amigo la verdad que te felicito porque sacas los temas idénticos y lo explicas muy bien.

    Gracias y saludos desde Argentina.

  • very good lesson no nonsense great playingby the way

  • Haver cuando vienes a Valencia. Gracias por tu gran profesionalidad manifiesta en enseñarnos. Gracias

  • great lesson!

  • Always great lessons.

  • NVM people i found out how to play this thank you JOHNNYG99X

  • i cant understand wat he is saying sorry if im being rude i can do the silinding at the begining but the rest is just blacnk

  • Thanks alot! Your videos are always extremely helpful!

  • no, his way to explain it is nice. you need to practise more if you don't understand

  • i've been playing guitar for 15 years ...he needs to explain it more.......i know how to play it better than he does

  • then why do you need his lesson? i'm just starting to play this stuff and I understand 95% of what he's doing, and what I don't understand is not his fault.

this is not a beginner's piece, if you don't understand this lesson you should try some easier songs first

  • didn't say i did ,did i?

  • maybe so but who fucking cares?

  • so why not put a lesson up for the people like me who have been playing 6 months and are trying to learn the tunes ??

    just a thought . ;-)

  • I can't figure out those 2 chords he plays after C and G at 2:30.

    could anyone help me please?

  • D, then A, then E

  • Shagadelic couch you have there...

  • I have such a hard time learning chords

  • i dont get any of this but i want to learn

  • very nicely played but could do with a bit more explanation as to whats going on.

  • nice man !

    well done

  • why did my comments get removed??????

  • Brilliant - just brilliant. Thanks.

  • you sound good man nice vid

  • thanks

  • Strats for life!!!!

  • I cant see you fingers the camara needs to be right , that'll be nice to take a pick.

  • the chords to the chorus are c,g,d,a,e in that order but every chord accept e is strummed twice then u strum e 8 times

  • i have that same exact guitar in my hands right now

  • Stratocaster: the only guitar worth owning!

  • i wouldn't have anything but my stratocaster. it's all a matter of opinion.

  • if that helps you sleep at night, go ahead and fool yourself with that crazy notion

  • and ibanez.

  • gibson les pauls are way better looking.

  • i wouldn't own one of those if they gave them away for free, cuz i should surley wouldn't pay a cent for a les paul. startocaster has the look, the tone and the vibe of a real guitar. everything else is a wannabe

  • i'm sure you would play one penny for a les paul. your either a gibson or a fender person... tons of legit guitarists played gibsons.

  • Fender only for me. Nothing else doesn't even come close.

  • why am i a fool?

  • you are a fool because you post ridiculous comments on a video, and act bewildered when they're removed.

  • you're a fool

  • This is definitely the best video teaching how to play this song but I felt like you skipped a lot of parts. It would be really helpful if you explained the parts between the chords.

  • I was able to follow this perfectly from 0:14 up until you slide up 3 frets at 1:04. Is it an E chord just played up 3 frets 2 strums then down 1 fret one strum then a normal E chord one strum?

  • yes it is

  • Bet lession I have come accross, you explaine this ever so well, I have some vids you may like to see on my channel.

    Thank you

    Do you teach stairway

  • Thanks for this.. I like your version more than most of the others on You Tube.

How about Part 2 now please? :D

  • thanks a lot

  • thanks mate you helped me nail the song :)

  • thanx alot

  • Nice lesson, thanks a lot.

  • I learned the first part that you took the time to explain. Then you pretty much just ran off on your own and played the rest without explaining. I see this alot on youtube. Maybe I should stop being cheap and just buy a damn video.

  • @jujitsuan he wanted to explain the intro not the hole song and so he did ... being able to read helps sometimes

  • @jujitsuan No, maybe you should use your ears to work it out rather than asking to be spoon fed

  • Who can 'learn Hendrix?" They know bits and pieces of what he was doing, but musicologists are still baffled by the great body of his work. This song was written before he came to prominence and was on paper, thus can be interpreted today.

  • I agree with you. I think alot has to do with the fact that he played a right handed guitar left handed. So its really hard for people to interpet what he was playing

  • He restrung the guitar, so it was like he was playing a proper lefthanded guitar. And Hendrix didn't write "Hey Joe"

  • but i doubt hendrix reversed the pickups, so the pole height wouldn't be the same as a left-handed guitar

  • yea,very good

  • Great, love this song! I pass it over to my husband! Thanks for sharing!

  • Brilliant. I am learning guitar and found your lessons excellent. Can you please do some more e.g. Hey Joe part 2

  • Good lesson!!! Thanks! it's in my favorites now!

  • illustrates the beauty of Hendrix: look at the different chord variations - he doesn't even bother getting into it in the lesson, he'd be there all week! If you want to learn the guitar you should definitely learn Hendrix, really gets you thinking, a sonic genius!

  • Yay!!! I can play this now because of you, thanks alot, I am going to go learn the solo now!

  • Stop at 2:54, what he really thinks of you.

  • what tuning is this?

  • its in standard tuning

  • half step down

  • Great video! What is your amp settings? Thanks
