Do you mean the Electric Generator? These were in the initial design of nearly all NZR locos in the later stages of design and fabrication. ITs nothing new and provides power for external and internal lighting. Out of place?? its a steam powered turbine!
Hi their. Ive been following your work and i must say once again you have come up trumps with yet again another great video of GVR. I am a driver out there and was driving Ja1250 in the later half of saturday and all of sunday of thomas. do you have any shot from those times? if you do would it be possible to get a video made up at all of any of that stuff, perhaps if we get in contact??

It's just that all the steam locomotives I've seen in my life todate, have never been accompanied by a horrid whine like this one :D heh
