We don't need a carbon tax or any new taxes at all in this economy. Fully electric cars are around the corner. Build nuclear facilities, give the power away for free and you will see there will be massive, massive reductions in c02 emitions. This tax is just a tax.
In essence, Carbon credits have no real value aside from sentimental value. Note that (likewise) trading worthless derivatives and options is at the core of the current economic woe. Will we ever learn? No, there are institutions that will profit greatly from this ponzi scheme, ultimately at the expense will be paid almost entirely by the consumer for no real projected reduction in green house gas emissions. {Follow the money.}
