Last time I saw this plane, I was working for BA at gatwick and it was missing its port engine. As far as I am aware, it was being sold to FedEx for them to use as a cargo plane.
What meals were you served? I am going going in British Airways too and in the same plane and I land in London too. But I am worried about the food. I know that it takes 9 hours to get there. Can you please tell me everything they served you?
Kick ass plane. my dad used to fly on them for BA, and the 767 - 300 fleet. Was at gatwick the other week and some of BA's 757's are all just sitting there by the hanger doing nothing. he a got a little teary bless him. Sick video! Rolls Royce engines For the win!
A lightly loaded 757 and a maximum climb after takeoff gives real meaning to the expression "like a bat out of hell"—it's great! And you captured it well, thanks!
@Mxsmanic The 752 probably has the highest thrust to weight ratio of any large commercial passenger jet, most pilots i've talked to call it a rocket compared to most others saying it's one of the quickest planes off the runway and to reach initial cruise, with typical climbs at 4-5000fpm all the way to fl340-380, sad to see many airlines give them up.
@AirplaneVideos1 1 I have never heard of any airline pilot or aviation buff praising the climb performance of the MD-80/90 or referring to them as "rockets" as they do the 757. I'm quite sure 757s are superior to the MDs when climb performance is considered. 757s are known to be over-powered, esp. Rolls Royce ones. I've seen videos of 757s doing nearly vertical climbouts during airshows. I've never seen a MD-80/90 do that before. 757s also have superior hot & high performance.
@Neno8403 Ok, Sorry about that, you win. Some people told me that the MD's climb rate was superior. But well. Now I know the truth. It is sad that Boeing discontinued the 757!!
The RR-powered 757s are truly amazing. I saw one taking off from DCA while planespotting. A regional jet tookoff behind it. The 757 lifted off considerably faster/earlier than the regional jet. I was VERY impressed.
@afcaj0od Why would it have winglets, considering winglets are not standard on 757s? Especially considering all of BA's 757 have now been withdrawn from service. Why would BA incur the huge costs of retrofitting an aircraft with winglets that was about to be withdrawn from service??
My favourite a/c. It's a shame that BA no longer use them but they were getting long in the tooth and a little impractical (loose loading, etc). They now belong to DHL.
I hope you are cool with me adding my video?....it shows how steep the B757.200 climbs out of LHR compared to my climb out of LHR from the same runway on a A320....Thanks for posting this fantastic steep take off :)
try going out of izmir adnan menderes on 757 it's a got a long RAF runway and when we were flying back to newcastle they put it on about 85% and then it would take-off the it roared even louder and we went up VERY steep and it felt like we had verbal diarreha :L but they were right well be over to newcastle in a flash cause we got 9 hour delay and the flight felt like 10 minutes!
I've only ever been on 3 types of aircraft. DC-9 (I'd have been better off on a pogo stick to be honest) a 737 which was comfortable but the 757's were amazing. 757's don't "take off" they launch themselves off of the runway :P
You call that steep? It looks more like you pointed the camera downwards a bit to make it look steep. from the view you were looking at it looks steep when it actually isn't
This video is really great, the 757's have such a powerful take off! I was lucky enough to get a picture in CPET's flight deck a month before retirement.
Realy great ! I I´ve been on a BA 742 too. I was booked on a flight from LHR to ORD. It was the opposite from the take-off shown here. It felt endless and the people on board got nervous. The Jumbo took off right at the end of the runway ! That was realy a bit scary. You had the feeling that it was not a plane you were sitting in, it felt like a bus ! :-) So it is good to see that an old 742 is still able to make a powerfull start and climb... ;-)
I noticed that around 2:16 they really throttle back the RRs! Is that to conserve fuel? Because those things below the plane don't look like private homes on a quiet street.
@Zickcermacity they throttle down because otherwise they go too fast not to conserve fuel mate.. if you noticed the plane went up fast and steep, if they wuda left the throttle at full power the plane would have been too fast and made it uncomfortable for the passengers.
WOW. I never thought of it that way! Here in the states the only reason they throttle back like that is an idiotic provision based on "NIMBY".
WTH is NIMBY, you may ask? Not In My Back Yard! Seriously, folks here in the states are wusses. They build 400,000pound homes within 5 miles of an AIRPORT and expect pilots responsible for hundreds of lives, including those on the ground around the airport, to TIP-TOE past their McMansions! It's called "noise abatement". LOL!
@Zickcermacity err no. The reason the plane throttles back is because the plane is switching from take off power to climb power. Engines can't run at high power settings for too long as this can damage them. The reason the plane throttles back further is because ATC has assigned them to maintain their altitude for whatever reason.
I beg your pardon, but while your assessment is valid I have it on authority from commercial airline pilots themselves that it is done in some regions of the U.S. for noise abatement measures. I am not Fox News - I do not spew nonsense arbitrarily. BOTH the reason you stated and the one I stated are correct.
I was wondering if noise abatement was the reason the take-off angle was so steep. I've flown out of Charlotte, NC twice now and I've noticed a marked difference in takeoff speed, thrust, and angle out of the airport. I mean the takeoff really throws you back in your seat more than most. At least that is what I noticed. I've always thought that this was because the pilots had to get to a certain altitude quickly and drop power for noise abatement. Thanks.
@Zickcermacity Your comment was aimed more at Thanhkim tbh. There are certain noise abatement procedures at airports such as SNA but this isn't the reason why the plane throttles back in this video. And even if it were using this procedure the result wouldn't be that much different.
I never said it was the reason in this video. I was just being facetious and at the same time curious why he was throttling back while still clearly over airport property with dozens of aircraft below taxiing or taking on passengers. In this specific video your explanation seems the more accurate. I simply brought up abatement because that is a BIG reason why it is done in the States, at least.
NICE passenger seat Takeoff! You AVOIDED ALL the mistakes typically made when filming this sort of thing:
-Too zoomed in.
-Camera shake(see too zoomed in).
-And the biggest one: Keeping the camera level with the horizon during take off!! Videos like that make it feel like your'e just in a fast elevator. BORING! Keep the camera inline with the PLANE - like it's attached to it.

That is just sick! It can't have been anyone onboard? must have been extremely light? Didn't look like a very steep climb, just an amazing mount of lift. Awesome video! like!
Steep take off, but at least he didn't bank at a crazy angle at the same time...it actually looked like it was pretty level the whole time! Except at the end! At least he waited to get out of that cloud cover....I hate it when pilots bank in cloudy/bumpy patches.
The RB211 and the 757 - great match. Trent 900 and the A380 (Qantas incident last week) will be a great match as the Trent RB211- 900 is a superb engine. But RR will have to sort the problem with the engine thoroughly and quickly.
I always Flew on a BA757 to Berlin and occasionally when i came back from Frankfurt.. when i sat at the window i always watched the RB engines blades..I get amused or interested quite quickly lol.. I never knew why they flew 757s to Berlin though..Plane was never full.. But then they did change them to A319s when they came into service.. Shame but oh well.. Fare well BA757s
@Keelz7196 that was the water vaper from the ground being sucked into the engine. I was in a 777 going to Tokyo and the samething happened. its just water just gets sucked into the engine and it looks like a tornado. its pretty cool
@Keelz7196 must be some type wind twister effect that the engine produced since it sucks air through right there, maybe a mix of hot air from the engine and cold air from outside created that.
Why did it go so steep?

@wilatemodel If you look closely, you'll see it's on a taxiway and it moves through the clip. If it was on the grass, it would sink into the soft ground and be stuck.

@TheLuigifan007 that plane vacated 27R on A10E taxiway.

I miss these British Airways 757's already! I feel like they were retired a bit early. Atleast i've gotten to fly on one before

Amazing piece of BA history now. What a takeoff...must have reached a couple of thousand feet before even passing terminal 5!

RIP BA 757 - Last flight today 30/10/10

WOW!!!! that was a really fast takeoff and the climb was insane!! Must have been like 3200 feet per minute!

wtf ? wat was the stuff coming out of the engine ?? 0:06 0:12
Keelz7196 1 year ago
@Keelz7196 that was the water vaper from the ground being sucked into the engine. I was in a 777 going to Tokyo and the samething happened. its just water just gets sucked into the engine and it looks like a tornado. its pretty cool
airnicholai 1 year ago
@Keelz7196 that´s water vapour from the taxiway being sucked into the engine.
wiwijo 1 year ago
@Keelz7196 Probably just some water!!! Looked like that it rained, there!!! Nothing to be worried about!!!
8018646631 1 year ago
@Keelz7196 Nothing's coming out of it. That's condensation forming in the air that the engine is sucking in.

@Keelz7196 How many thousand people have responded to your comment with the exact same thing?
Maxables 1 year ago
@Maxables lol dont know
Keelz7196 1 year ago
@Keelz7196 must be some type wind twister effect that the engine produced since it sucks air through right there, maybe a mix of hot air from the engine and cold air from outside created that.
