  • I always felt that morality starts with biology. Humans are co-operative, and so an instinct to commit certain crimes that detract from the co-operative benefit would be naturally selected out.

  • Quite an interesting video. The question of absolute morality requires examination.

Rape and Murder are pretty hard to place into any moral code. Of course it has been done, usually be dehumanising others, but you see my point.

If there is no absolute standard, then we are faced with the idea, there is no standard. That the law of power rules. Might is right.

Can you deny a fundamentalism without ending up with might is right?

    Fundamentalism does not preclude tolerance.

  • Where does morality come from anyways? I'm not trying to stump anybody, I'm actually curious.

  • @DarkZerkerX

    from pure logic (mostly).

Working & living together in a team makes live easier.

Humans probably are the dominant species because we're very good at it (compared to other animals)

Morality is just the rules to live together with prosperity.

Part of our morals are derived from instincts such as empathy (asks for compassion) &

anger (asks for justice). Equal of rights for everyone come from the logic that if people don't have to struggle for their rights they can be more productive.

  • Well done. The only disagreement I have with this video is on the topic of objective morality. You state that you don't believe in an objective morality. I would disagree and say that there is.There is a such thing as the logic of morality. It is rational. The truth is that everyones morality stems from logic. You need it to make claims and connections. This includes religious individuals and the logic that allows to make conclusions. If two people argue a moral issue, one of them will have th

  • Faith is willingness to take action based on limited available knowledge. It is a leap from the known into the suspected, and thus it is not unreasonable. It is trust and commitment in the face of objective uncertainty. The doubt that is discouraged in the Bible, for example in the book of James, is waffling and wishy-washiness and fear to take a stand -- not healthy skepticism.

  • You project your own moral views back on an ancient culture. Moral feelings are not innate, nor are they a reliable compass. Abraham was promised that he would be the father of a great nation through his son Isaac. The faith he exhibited was faith that God would either a) not allow Isaac to die, or b) not allow him to remain dead. He was obedient based on what he knew about God. WE know more about God's character, so God would never command such an action after His self-revelation in Jesus.

  • You need doubt to make decisions. You need faith to translate those decisions into action.

  • Awesome video man Great Job!!

  • God is fiction.

  • Job was awesom and if your christian there is a lot to learn form that book.

  • I disagree with your assessment of Job. It really is one of the most well-written Bible stories. Doubt is a big part of Job.

  • @Keeban3 I think the reason Job is mentioned is because god wanted to prove how faithful of a servant Job was, so he allowed all of jobs children to die as part of the test. This is where many people compare Abraham to Job because in both story's it is children who suffer for the beliefs of adults. Imagine what Abraham's son must think after that moment..knowing his dad would be willing to kill him. There may not be physical damage but the mental damage would be astronomical

  • @MsSquarebearz

Interestingly, in the Koranic version of the story, Abraham does kill his son (Ishamael not Isaac), but God brings him back to life.

But its a common misconception that Job continues to praise God. He gets pissed and curses God's judgement. The town-people actually argue with him, saying he has no right to question God. Then God comes down and says, I'm powerful and your not, so bend over and take it. Then Job says, yea, you're right you are more powerful.

  • @Keeban3 Those are interesting versions of Job. In the king james version and international version Job does not curse god but the day of his birth and begs for god to cut him off. It can be found in chapters 5 and 6 of the book of Job. Even if he does curse god, that is beside the point. The point is about the death of children, you know the ones Jesus talks about as innocent? Children die to prove a point, and even with your version only 1 comes back. Doesn't that seem a bit sadistic?

  • @MsSquarebearz

Your tone suggests that you think you are arguing with me.

  • @Keeban3 I apologize if you feel that way but you mistook my tone, I do not think I am arguing with you. I was merely clarifying my point. If you took it that way and was able to make an assumption about what i am thinking then that is on you.

  • @Keeban3 lmao

  • @Keeban3 My fav quote from Job. Jobs wife " why don't you just curse god and die already". Job " women am I not to take the good with the bad". The only wife the devil left alive was the bitchy one, lol.

  • At 6:35, what religious symbol is 2nd from the right?

  • The only explanation for life that makes any bit of sense, is Jesus Christ!

  • @machinedean100

    hahahahahaaaa

  • birds grow out of flowers and cows give birth to eals. dolphins turn into mermaids and polars bears into whales. so, many lies come out of these men there all tall tales. babys grow out of a cabbage patch. eggs open like seeds and the never hatch. chickens turn into ostrichs and gophers learn to play fatch. Yup evolution makes perfect since; because it is so you role around in sin and never repent. and all because of common decent.

  • Bacteria becoming bacteria, a horse turning into a horse, mosquitoes turning into mosquitoes, and virus's turning into virus's. This is of course called speciation. In which a species does not turn into another species.

  • This is the story of my childhood. Doubting and then being told that it was wrong.

  • LMAO !!! I don't even know where to start and as I see, neither can you in another way. Oh, well !!! I guess NOBODY gets the reasoning of "JUDGE NOT". LMAO...

  • I really love all of your videos you are a very intelligent man I hope to be like you one day. I want to be a scientist but I don't know what path to choose because I love all science.

  • @MikeyyPe

Then become a reneissance man and study as many fields as you can handle.

  • @monkeytail2002 how would I go about this haha. Should I go to college for different sciences or how do I study. Also I am still quite young (16) but I really would like to start researching but I feel as if I need to be apprentice or student first.

  • @MikeyyPe

tbh I don't know how you would go about it in the U.S. as I'm from Scotland and we have a different further education system to you guys (I'm guessing you're from the states as you are talking about college as being the main goal not university) Study Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in High School. I'd spend as much after school time on these subjects. Not that I'm saying ignore friends and parties but yeah. Also read about every subject.

  • @monkeytail2002 What do you mean by spend as much time as possible on these subjects? I know you are saying learn as much as possible but how would you recommend this and yes I am from the United States and honestly am not familiar with the difference between college and university other than universities are more prestigious.

  • @MikeyyPe

I would recommend asking your science teacher(s?) for extra tutelage and explain that you want to investigate the options of several fields. Also spend time in the local library reading books and use the internet to search for information. Make sure to cross reference the items you find on the net to check that they are legit and not creatard stuff. The difference between Uni and College I'll explain in another comment as im running out of space in this one.

  • @monkeytail2002 okay thank you. I took chemistry this year and really liked it and my teacher is a really nice guy so I will have to ask him for addition things to do.

  • @MikeyyPe

And Universities offer more variety in Degrees and the level they go up to is PhD.

  • @monkeytail2002 A University I am seriously considering is University of California Santa Barbara which has a very good science and engineering department

  • @MikeyyPe

Catholic School?? You had best use a library and the net a lot. As for Uni's in the States I don't know their reputations so maybe sending a message to C0nc0rdance, The Living Dinosaur or Thunderf00t would suit you better there. I'd also reccomend looking into overseas Universities. Particularly Scotland as our Universities are generally ahead in research with science. Dundee University would be best for Chemistry, Dundee is known as the City of Discovery after all ;)

  • @monkeytail2002

Ignore my spelling, English was never my favourite subject. I would have preferred learning Scottish in school but sadly for several reasons Scottish was forced out of schools but it's slowly coming back :D

  • @monkeytail2002 Yea next year though I am going to a prep school though, a more intellectual institution. And thank you I will definitely look in to that university although I don't think my mother wants me to go too far away.

  • @MikeyyPe

fair enough. However on deciding on which school to go to the one opinion you should listen to the most is your own. While your mothers feelings should be taken into consideration it's your future not hers. She should want you to get the best education there is no matter where you have to go to. Hopping over the Atlantic is extreme but I was only pointing Scotland out as we have some of the best Universities in the world. Plus further education is secular here.

  • @monkeytail2002

unless of course you go to a religious college to learn for the priesthood etc. I realise that it's mostly secular over there but over here we don't have the I.D. debate or laws trying to be passed so no annoying fundies bitching about anything. The only fundies ive seen bitching and the only creationists ive seen bitching online are from North America in the most part and Australia.

  • @monkeytail2002 At Santa Barbara 4 faculty members have nobel prizes and 3 people strruck my eye, creator of the worlds first quantum machine, robert ballard who discovered the titanic wreckage and an astronaut who delivered a section of the international space station.

  • @MikeyyPe

Seems your mind is made up then :D Just make sure to study your arse off. If your deemed a geek by idiot high school kids for it well tell them to get to fuck. Or if you are wary about swearing then tell them to awa n bile their heids. Good Scottish way of telling someone to bugger aff. Just remember that high school drama only exists in high school so don't listen to peer pressure and make sure to study. Can't stress studying high enough.

  • @monkeytail2002 Will do! And one of the big turn offs of Dundee was travel costs, my family cannot afford that as much as I would love it. I will definitely consider it for graduate studies though once I get some money. Thanks!

  • @MikeyyPe

No Problem. It'll be nice to say I managed to help raise a smart American one day ;)

Another advantage to over here is drinking age is 18 not 21 ;)

  • @monkeytail2002 If I ever make a discovery I will remember you haha.

  • @MikeyyPe

    Woot!!

Anyway I'm away to bed so no more posting as it's distracting :P

  • @MikeyyPe My alma mater and NOT a catholic school! UCSB has one of the finest engineering schools! Best of luck!

  • @stromatolite775 my cousin studied there briefly he reccomended it to me and i fell inlove

  • @MikeyyPe Its a great campus, right on the beach. Just don't fool around on the beach when you should be studying! I'm sure you will love it!

  • @monkeytail2002

As previously stated the main difference in America between Colleges and Universities is very little. However in the rest of the English speaking world the general difference is that some Colleges are seen as covering High School courses up to Bachelor degrees (I'd state it better but I can't tell you what the same is in other countries) or any full degrees they give has to be validated by Universities. Also in Canada Colleges can't give a Bachelor degree.

  • @monkeytail2002 And a bonus is I have a Kindle so I can get many books instantly so that is helpful.

  • @monkeytail2002 One teacher and very limited since I go to a Catholic school.

  • message to any fundies here: stop bitchin' and take it up the the ass like a man, then we'll talk about your religion being infallible

  • 4:32 is one among many moments that clearly show that Thinking Atheists are more moral than any dogma!

  • Thanks, for putting my own jambleld thoughts into an excellent vid.

  • Job is only a story of unfailing faith at the beginning and and end- for the middle 38 or so chaps Job rails against a God who lets the good suffer and the wicked prosper and demands to be heard, to present his defense/charge.

  • C0nc0rdance, I see your point in here, however there's some disturbing point in your video:

@3.00, IMHO, The image of Thich Quang Duc "The burning monk", self immolation act and the Korean man's Hara-Kiri aren't mixed well with that of Jim Jones's mass suicide and the UFO cult leader, for their cause wasn't really the same. The monk burn himself for injustice against his people whereas the man cut himself for his dignity. I don't think neither God nor "the book" was their cause here.

  • A similar argument is made by Jacob Bronowski in his series The Ascent of Man where he says about Auschwitz: "When people believe that they have absolute knowledge, with no test in reality, this is how they behave. This is what men do when they aspire to the knowledge of gods."

  • @ 3:40 what about the story of Jephthah? He swore he would sacrifice the first thing out of his house in exchange for victory, which turned out to be his daughter, whom God didn't save as he had Isaac. And then the story of Jesus, Gods son, being sacrificed. Sacrifice of ones children for the sake of appeasing God has a long history in the Bible.

  • God exists, for those that believe in a God. The issue is that we all, as far as it is able to measure, live in a real universe abiding by natural laws. The concept of god applies of course but does a factual 'real' god exist? There was a time when the unexplained and miraculous was attributed to a god. Now it is reduced to the realm of either the unknown or unknowable. Thus we should act accordingly leaning towards doubt and not faith, as this excellent video subtly suggests.

  • Aristotle's Golden Mean FTW!

  • I really enjoyed this, thank you.

  • The thing is that faith in your mother's love is very different than religious faith.

There is reason to believe your mother will always love you because there's evidence that she will. She's had, I would assume, a good track record of caring about you.

Religious faith, however, is believing for absolutely no reason. Religious based faith is something nobody should ever consider using for determining what's true and what's false.

  • Or the mutilation of male genitalia.

  • What is your favorite Biblical story?

  • Well, in all fairness, what happened at the Branch Davidian compound was more the government's fault than it was theirs... I'm not defending the Branch Davidians, but the tragedy was caused by the government.

  • @luccaskunk yeah i agree, it was mostly the governments fault, they were trigger happy, and wanted action. all they had to do it wait it out, they would run out of food/water and then would have surrendered.

  • Faith is what holds your very reality together!

  • Youtube drama looks absolutely ridiculous for anyone who doesn't know what the drama is even about. All the videos in response to said drama just end up looking like long and pointless rants by people whom I usually respect.

  • @truckcompany Hey you know I saw Bigfoot. I mean I didn't believe it either but omg Bigfoot exists.

  • Vevot!

  • @AronRa

    ZopDoz!

  • @C0nc0rdance Is that NWO atheist-alien satanspeak?

  • @AronRa Biological Spencercism!

  • When does life begin for a tree. Is it when the seeds are in the pouch or is it when the seed has been planted or is when a bud has broken through the soil. What do you guys think when is it that life begins in the whom. Is it when the eggs are just in womb are is it after they have been fertilized or is it after the baby has been born. What do you guys think?

  • @machinedean100

I suggest you look in a dictionary.

  • @truckcompany What I am looking in a dictionary for. Biological spencersism is like an inside joke for people who know stuff.

  • Like someone with pure faith would see abortion as murder and someone with pure doubt would see it as just remove a lump of flesh. It would just be like removing a tumor or some cancer.

  • Anyway my point is, is that child abuse will occur with in an atheist culture and a god believing culture. It is also less likely to occur in a christian culture. With people who have ultimate faith.

  • @machinedean100

    You are trolling right?

  • @truckcompany Maybe!

  • @truckcompany Can you show me evidence of this troll you speak of.

  • @machinedean100

Evidence is just for science. Belief in trolls in a matter of faith. Faith and science is separate.

  • @truckcompany O really, Belief and faith are two totally different things by the way. Faith is trust, belief is what you consider true. If i trusted you and you told me that you saw a troll I might be inclined to believe. Because after all I trust you. Everything we see and know is based on faith, trust. You trust in your eyes to help you perceive reality. After all why wouldn't you trust them your eyes have never lied to you and if they did well there all you got huh.

  • @truckcompany Faith is in everything even science!

  • @machinedean100

Science deals only with the material world. Faith is just that, a matter of faith, it deals with things that can't be proved. Science can not prove the wind, yet with faith we can know it is there because of its effects it has around us. If I believe you are a troll, you have to prove that you aren't a troll, otherwise you are trolling right now.

No I don't trust in my eyes, I know for cetian

  • @truckcompany Yup, if you didn't know for certain you wouldn't trust yours eyes. Science can prove the wind, and you have totally made my head spin off.

  • @truckcompany I have seen that a lot of you think that faith is an empty word. That really has no meaning but it means to trust.

  • @truckcompany Science can prove the existence of god. Just like it can prove the wind. The problem is, is that science is so bent on disproving god. That it doesn't take the time to look in his direction. Now if I saw Bigfoot and you were trying to present evidence to the contrary, or to say that there was no Bigfoots and that it was all in my head. I would have to say well what ever. I mean Bigfoots footprints don't mean anything.

  • @truckcompany Nor do the pictures, the video tape, or all the eyewitness accounts. For some reason all the evidence I present that shows that me seeing Bigfoot can be justified is just plain ridiculous. I mean jeeze i even have some of bigfoots hairs, but hey there is no bigfoot.

  • @machinedean100

No science can't prove the existence of the wind, have you ever seen the wind??? It's the same with God, we can only prove the effects of God, except in rare cases such as when Moses saw God and when people see Angels.

Science can't prove God, that is why it doesn't try. God is outside of our 4 dimension space, (3d plus time) that is why we can't prove God, but we can prove the effects. Such as if God Healed people from cancer, we can prove that.

  • @truckcompany

"Such as if God Healed people from cancer, we can prove that."

    No, You can't.

  • @paspax

I was trolling machinedean100... quite fun, you should try it.

  • @machinedean100

No Bigfoot in real, it even says so in the bible. Do you even know what happens when angels and humans interbreed? Yes! Giants come out, which is what Bigfoot is. How come there are soooo many reports of Bigfoot? They can't be all wrong, otherwise there would be one hell of a conspiracy lol.

Have you even read all of the bible? It's got Giants written in Deuteronomy. I suggest you read it.

  • @truckcompany Are you a theist or an atheist I am confused. The Bigfoot thing was just an analogy for god. I am not saying I really saw Bigfoot.

  • @truckcompany No Science can prove god just like it can count down time. Time is immaterial yet we measure it and how do we measure it by the affects it has on reality.

  • @machinedean100

So what kind of experiment do you propose we do to provide evidence for your claim that science can prove god?

  • @2point7etc I think that the evidence lies in reality. A laser reads information from a disk much like are eyes read reality. Information is taken in through ours eyes and then interpreted in to what we see. When you look at your computer you not only see your computer but you see a word and an image. You look at it and the word computer is read and the image enters your mind. If you look beneath what you see. You will find that your reality is comprised of written information.

  • @machinedean100

I'm kind of confused by what your points are.

Something about reality being strange if god shows up

and reality being made of written information?

  • @2point7etc exactly!

  • @2point7etc Also you might find evidence for god in DNA. You might find evidence for god in archeology, but anything written by men doesn't count. Or ya know like finding Egyptians chariot wheels in the red sea those apparently don't count either. Never mind archeological evidence wouldn't be good enough for you guys. if Medusa was found Zeus would still but a statue.

  • @machinedean100

But DNA was a prediction of evolution so it`s evidence for evolution. If you made a new prediction using the bible and it was shown to be true through rigorous experimentation then that would be strong evidence. BUT this prediction must be something that evolution wouldn`t also predict so as to differentiate.

  • @2point7etc I guess u could interpret it so; but with out any evidence of a species turning into another. To say that evolution is true just based on similar DNA doesn't really stand. With out being coupled with the visual evidence of it actually occurring. This being so it is still open to interpretation. I say the DNA is similar because it is a written code.

  • @machinedean100

Scientists have seen speciation occur though.

  • @2point7etc No uh no one has ever seen a species turn into another. Give me one example of speciation where one species actually becomes another.

  • @machinedean100

Speciation is where two or more populations diverge genetically to the point where they can no longer produce offspring. talkorigins/faqs/faq-speciation.html after talk origins there is a . org

If you mean where species reproduce and create vastly different progeny that isn't a prediction of evolution.

  • @2point7etc So, your telling me that a frog turning into another frog is something changing into another species; Or liger not being able to mate this is something evolving into another species. So, a horse mating with a zebra and producing a horse that can no longer mate directly verify that there is no god. Also, states that monkeys can turn into men. Is this what you are saying.

  • @machinedean100

If the 2 frog populations can no longer breed with members of the other population then yes they are both different species. Ligers being incapable of mating is because lions and tigers are seperate species. Ligers are not an example of lions and tigers evolving into ligers that's a strawman. Same with the horse zebra example. Evolution doesn't say that god isn't real only that genesis isn't.

We share an ancestor with monkeys.

  • @2point7etc Did they recently change the definition of species. Frog turning into a frog is anew species, so if i was incapable of mating with another human I would not be human anymore. The frog must not be frog now either. It be call a froegoe or something. What about a sexual beings they will always be able to breed with them self's how would you define them as a species. If the def for species has change don't you guys have to come up wth a new name for a group animals with similar traits.

  • @machinedean100

Not that you wouldn't be human but that you might be a member of a population that was a different kind of human ( in the same way that humans are mammals but can't reproduce with horses who are also mammals.)

The frog is still a frog and all of it's descendants will still be frogs but they might diverge and become several different groups of frogs. I don't understand what you mean about sexual beings breeding with themselves. animal kingdom mammals clades etc, are other names.

  • @2point7etc the liger is not a strawman. the liger and the zebra/horse are still a horse and cat just incapable of breeding at all even with there own kind. So, there a new species but still the same species according to the new definition of species. So, speciation = a species turning into a new species but still remaining the same species. I am confused!

  • @machinedean100

I'm sorry, it's just that I've heard a lot of people misrepresent evolution as when two different animals breed to create a third. Really evolution says that over time populations change. I was looking into it and I'm unsure where ligers and other hybrids fit into this I'll look into it.

  • @machinedean100

I am quite pleased that this discussion has been so civil. I appreciate that we have been talking this out like adults. So often I see atheists and theists arguing not so much about the evidence but just slinging dirt. =)

  • @2point7etc this would be the second conversation with an atheist where that was not occurring. usually it is your stupid no your stupid and that the way it goes.

  • @2point7etc And lol that was a good one; but the names evolved in side the minds of men. You guys are very clever. LOl, O yea if those names came from Jacob then why do Jacobs still exist. :D. I couldn't help my self.

  • @2point7etc Like the all the letters in the alphabet. if I write jack and Jake does this mean jack evolved into Jake. Of course the names are similar because if I am to make jake I need j, a, k, and e and for jack i need j, a, c, and k. These two names have 3 letters in common. So, now if i take the genetic code to make a monkeys hand of course it would similar to a humans hand because it would require the almost exactly the same writing.

  • @machinedean100

Humorously Jack and Jake are both from the root name Jacob so in a sense they did evolve from a common ancestor.

  • @2point7etc I dont think DNA supports evolution at all.

  • @2point7etcI I personally don't think it makes sense at all. I think it is a puzzle you guys are trying to stuff into the puzzle of life and it just don't fit.

  • public static void main(String[] args)

    String DNA = "Written code";

    double DA = 2 * 2;

    String atheist = " TARD"

    System.out.println(DNA " " + DA + " " + atheist);

  • See DAT stuff down there makes up the whole universe.

  • @2point7etc If the arch of the covenant was found and every who touched exploded. To the atheist Jehovah would still be just a non existent poof of air.

  • @machinedean100

I think it might be a question of why people exploded. I also think that it would provide strong evidence in favour of the abrahamic religions though. What`s often interesting to me is that I`m accused of not being open to new evidence about god when I have in fact changed my opinion before.

  • @2point7etc There are many individual experiments you can do on your own. If god does exist and he is all knowing that mean he can hear you where ever you are. You try to communicate with him; but if anything happened or you got a response you might throw it off as insanity or a brief glitch in your mind in which you did not perceive reality correctly. When god enters your life and all things become possible. Then there is no stable reasoning to how reality might be perceived.

  • @2point7etc For god being the creator and all foundations being laid by him. All laws and forms molded by he and all things held together by his consciousness. Reality can easily be lost and your interpretation of it turned in a mess of anything goes. For through him and by him all things are possible. By a spoken word everything you know and perceive could suddenly be turned upside down and not make any sense at all.

  • I don't think that pure faith or pure doubt. Can be blamed for the child abuse. I mean there crazy pure doubting atheists who abuse there children. The same goes the other way around. For me pure faith in god is awesome power. For you it would be a faith in the unseen and the unknown; but for me it is like putting my trust in a person. That is scary for the unbeliever. If i believe so deeply then what if god commanded me to kill my children.

  • 4:57 and on. I disagree.Faith isn't such that too much of it is a bad thing. It's unrealistic to say that you should have some, but not too much or too little. Faith doesn't work that way. You can't will what you think is true, just will to learn. I attest that passion is a good thing. What makes the big difference is open-mindedness and, the elephant in the room interconnected with most of human failure, cognitive dissidence. That's the switch that, when flipped, grow atrocities.

  • Having the last word is an aggressive act - it's also the leading cause of comment wars...

  • Sorry, but there are too many errors in this video.

All evidence points to the primacy of existence not consciousness. Ergo, arguing that the world still exists when we close our eyes is not an act of faith.

  • @Guncriminal How do you know the worlds exists wile yours eyes are open.

  • Wait, isn't there a false dichotomy ? Pure faith vs pure doubt and all the steps in between ? What about knowledge based on evidence and logic ? You're not going to say that I have faith that logic and evidence are what I think they are, are you ? Believers in the supernatural will say that they have doubt in logic and evidence and scientists / rational thinkers have faith in knowledge. But I think logic and evidence is not anywhere on this line between doubt and faith.

  • Even we trolls are getting very tired of this foreskin argument...

  • It puts the lotion on its foreskin or it gets the hose again!

  • Wish you hadn't chosen a blading white guy with glasses and a trim beard for the ultimate doubter.

    Hits too close to home.

  • Is it OK to be an Atheist Extremist?

  • This so dam Ridiculous its not funny. This most stupidest most flipping conversation I have ever had in my life. it is really just plain stupid.

  • @C0nc0rdance

Why didn't you say mutilation of male genitalia was bad too? Why is it not okay with you to mutilate female genitalia, but male genitalia is okay?

    Why the double-standard?

  • Also, Biblical non-literalists provide various exegetical schemes that explicate an allegorical meaning to the story, and do not accept it as historical fact. There is no historical evidence for such early Biblical figures. The literature points to an allegorical interpretation with the various actors representing various relationships with God.

I believe we are here in the realm of mythos and allegory which becomes skewed through Biblical literalism.

  • You could believe in a type of moral objectivism that has nothing to do with religion or God.

Moral realism is a metaethical position that would allow for a belief in objective morality (absent a deity, swcripture or religious conviction)

  • lol religion

  • Religion sucks nigga dick

  • I am a big fan of your videos, generally. When you say that so many people are motivated to do things when they have an inner conviction that it is wrong, what thesis do you assert overrides their conscience. What justification does one use to harm noncombatants? To me it is almost always irrational and religions, or their condescension to doubt that which cannot be known, elevates this to virtue status. For me it's more irrationality than faith and it should not go unchallenged.Your thoughts?

  • I would have to quibble with your use of the word "faith." I reject your claim that I use faith that my mother loves me. I freely admit I don't know for certain but the past actions and statements from her make it extremely probable.

The difference is with faith you just assume it's true, whereas I know I can't KNOW it's true but it's so likely that I act as though it's true. The first position is not affected by evidence, the second is.

  • The video by itself is great IMO, but while i do agree with everything the video says and concludes, i disagree with the reason for it's making - i absolutely believe that the man who stated (JesusFreak777?) that he was willing to kill his son if his god wills it, only made that statement because he knew and knows for a fact that this situation will never actually occur, he will never be put in the position to make that horrible choice - so he feels free to talk about it.

  • Very good video -- well thought out and eminently reasonable.

The people who object to using reason within Christianity tend to fall into two broad camps -- those who wish to subjugate others to their own will, and those who wish to surrender responsibility. Making moral decisions can be difficult, and some people are attracted to those who claim to be appointed by God to make those decisions for them.

It would surprise me if the same did not hold true for cult behaviour in other religions.

  • I just wash my penis under running water and then splatter it with the blood of a dead bird off of a live bird, so it does not fall off.

  • Must you cut and run?

  • When did this video become about circumcision??

  • @OnionTrollsAlliance

    I WISH I KNEW!

  • @C0nc0rdance lol

  • @C0nc0rdance "We need some faith to get us through the day"

    How so?

  • @manoric82 I'd think that by "we" he means most people.

And it's not hard to imagine why someone would need to believe that there is a point to their actions, or that they are real, or that pain isn't something they should inflict on themselves because it feels bad (that is: putting faith in your feeling towards pain). You probably understand this. I don't know why you're asking, even tough you yourself think you don't need any faith.

But maybe I'm just assuming things about you.

  • @OnionTrollsAlliance YouTube comments are never related to the video. The commenters in a makeup tutorial are discussing the virtues of drinking low carb beer!

Hmm.. why am I watching makeup tutorials...

  • I was in the bathroom fapping. Then I read the sign in the video.

    Fuck.

  • You guys real crack me up ya know it.

  • Abraham doubted and questioned God's decision to destroy a city right before God commanded him to sacrifice Isaac. What that shows is that you may doubt, and you may question the decision of authorities, but you must always obey when commanded. I don't know if this makes it any better, but just pointing out.
