@dreamdate How do you know that he didn't like it? I never heard anything about anyone telling her when to hit it. If you heard some live performances of Emotions she avoids the high notes. Sometimes she can't ever pull them off. That part of your voice is very unpredictable. Plus the fact that the only time Mariah sang live was on TV, she didn't sing live too often, compared to other pop singers of that time so her ecperience was not very good.

But that refers mostly to her songwriting and studiowork, when it comes to live performances it is indeed very unpredictable, but if you use chest voice a lot it gets hard to hit them nicely those high notes. x

Regarding everyone talking about lip syncing - the sad truth is that everyone does it at some point in their careers. All the huge artists, including Mariah, do an impossible number of performances a year, so it would be a miracle for their vocal chords to remain intact. With that said, Mariah is just amazing. Honey I knwo Mariah by heart and I've seen all the ATYNAF performances.She never sounded as powerful and impressive and never hit the numerous G5 notes at the end like in the studio.

The Proctor's Theater is the most impressive, but the key was lowered.The Tokyo Dome version is also awesome(especially the ad-lib on some words),but the key is once again lowered and the end is totally changed,so no comparison can be made.
