  • Gus Sir Beef in Charlotte NC used to make great fried squash but now its way to greasy and mushey. I found out why, the Gus family sold the name and restaurant 10 years ago.

Gus'es Nephew owns the Crown Point restaurant in Charlotte and let me tell you, thats some great fried squash. Crisp and not to much fry so you can taste the squash.

Your Moms looks fantastic and I bet it tastes out of this world!!

  • delicious!

  • Love fried squash. Peel them and use a deep fryer. Squash will be more tender with no skin and will be faster and less messy in a deep fryer. Yum, Yum!!

  • Need a Cast Iron pan! Yum!

  • gosh this takes me back to my childhood in louisiana.

  • Looks delish but ya'll need some greens. Collards mixed with cabbage and that hot water cornbread.

  • South Carolina baby I frying squash to night

  • mmmm southern cooking. My mom makes fried squash exactly like this... love them!

  • Please tell your Mother that she is so sweet and humble.Ladies like this are very hard to find.If my mom was still alive she would love this- Please tell this sweet lady to show us more of her great cooking skills!

  • My dad use to make these when I was a kid. They were soooooooooo yummy!

  • Get your mom to do a video of her making Salmon Patties...They look delicious!!

  • you should try coating the squash in egg before you cover them in corn mean.

  • This is my favorite. I learned about it from my mother too. I live in Michigan now and most people never heard of such a thing. My mother also used to fry ocra the same way.

  • I can tell she is a masterful Southern cook. I am going to try this technique with my garden squash tonight. Thanks!

  • that lady does not seem excited at all about making fried squash....we always dip them in egg first, then the cornmeal...makes a good thick crispy batter

  • Again, good way to use up the 2908902 squash growing in a garden, but frying it kind of takes some of the 'healthy' out of it doesn't it? I guess if you only eat it like this once and awhile it won't hurt you.

  • Sure looks good! I just fried up a little scallop squash for a snack. I always use panko and an egg wash. The salt and bag-o-corn meal looks like a good idea.

  • well i'm glad i ran across this video because fried squash was exactly what i am about to make for dinner. thanks for this!

  • I really liked the recipe.

the reason she adds salt is to draw some of the moisture from the squash so they will coat with the flour.

great video. your mom is a great cook.

she cooks with lots of love & dedication

    THANKS MOM

  • thanks evelyn it looks yummi......good video

  • I have never had fried squash like these before. I have made squash in unions and oil though, but never tried it with a batter before. I'll have to try this recipe. It reminds me of fried green tomatoes there made the same way I think.

    Thanks for the recipe.

  • This video is an a one video, I like it very much.

  • good jawb! I will try them along with your other good eats.
