  • lol @sky daddy!!

  • You are such an admirable person to be as outspoken as you are, and I truly appreciate you. As a very white, male atheist, I couldn't begin to understand what you're burdened with regarding your situation, which I can certainly surmise is arduous. To come out as an atheist among any strong, strict Christian community is intensely difficult, especially when it comes to heritage, and how that heritage relates to an oppressive white history can exacerbate emotions regarding those delicate issues.

  • PRAISE JAH RAS TAFARI HAILE SELLASSIE I

  • Hi Ayanna... You are so beautiful and intelligent and well spoken (in comparison to just about anyone who appears on youtube) and I wish you all the best. I don't think the tight-knit relationship between church and community is unique to black people, but I see your point.

  • You have your work cut out for you. I wish you well and the best of luck.

  • All White people(no offense)..should call themselves white atheist. Im a black Christian:D...We posting our videos up soon! Lol CHEA!!

  • when you read the the bible it tell us that the twelve tribe's would be scattered among the heathens, the heathens are the other nations.but so called black churches was established by the illuminati, but that is too much meat for people to actually digest cause the whole world has been deceived by strange doctrines.the story is god which also is a Greek word has nothing to do with Religion its all a mind control.people need to do real research but this video do make you wanna think about.

  • religion was made up by the Greeks which was so called white people and so called black people has been following these people tradition, which like i said has nothing to do with god,i mean its real deep but everybody is not only brain washed, but black people has no identity of who they are and it has nothing to do with slavery, its them they the ones that follow man's doctrine,i do believe its a higher force but its the way people are teaching it.which is false.

  • "When I go to Atheist events, I am the only one OF MY KIND". Of course you are not "one of your kind" in an Atheist meeting; after all, it is a MEETING OF ATHEISTS. lol I do get what you are saying, but then again, Black Hockey Lovers is a website still up for grabs. lol African Americans are not only roughly 12% of the American population, only 2-3% describe themselves as Atheists, while 10-12% of white people do. You do the math and how likely it is to meet an Atheist who happens to be black.

  • Atheists shouldn't be seperating themselves into races. You say you go to atheist conventions and you're the only black person. Well there are a million places you could go where you would be the only black person. Its a non-issue really.

  • I agree.....I don't know many black atheists.....or at least they don't speak about it.....the black community can be very harsh to atheist so I see why they don't go around openly saying they are atheist....but whenever the issue comes up I am not afraid to tell anyone I'm an atheist

  • I know what you mean. Most black people won't even debate the existence of God properly.

  • Im glad im not american. The more I learn about american religion the more similarities i see to how islam is treatet in the middle east.

  • @escapeartist80 yeah i hear you but you known what Religion was man made from the first place it was a mind control to actually have people think a certain way to control them.and if you do not see things how they do you are automatically a enemy and you are being judge its all fucked up i do not deal that shit the most high has nothing to do with all this corruptness, this is man made bullshit.if i talk to a person and they say they follow any thing man made such as Religion i stay far away.

  • thanks for exlplainging it, i disliked it alot that xou made a distinction, now i can somewhat understand it.

  • Cause us "pasty people dont matter".

  • Ill be blocked anyways from this but 727 is ten times the bigot i could be but you wont say shit to him will you?

  • I love how brown people cant be bigots if i said that Id be blocked.

  • lets bring up the fact that Im "pasty" can I bring up the fact that yer brown? I cant can I?

  • tictacs?

  • @DarthAardvark1977 My bad. I meant to say Good&Plenty.

  • thats the delusion you live with

  • yeah all us white people are all out to get you

  • BlackAtheistsAmerica is addressing a problem that has always troubed me, (a pasty-white caucasion, btw) and I'm honored to be on the same side as Ayanna Watson. And I also feel heartfelt compassion for people like DerfVaaaarkarp19666 who either aren't getting the help they need, or who keep getting their psych meds mixed up with their tictacs.

  • Ive done the bigot copy paste already and you smoked alot of crack to get passed that one.

  • Do I have to show links where you called me a bigot or do i have to show links where you shit on my english to prove your shitty argument?

  • lol I got all night to fuck with bigots.

  • I bet you wont correct 727s grammer because he agrees with you.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 LOL. Where did I correct your grammar? Please advise.

  • We will never get passed this when you keep prostalitizing to the sheep .

  • These injustices you speak of are only further brought out in your mind by dividing people and thats what you do. You keep making the distinction instead of saying "we are the same species" You keep saying "we are different" And thats your ignorant cross to bear.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 Actually, I say that we are equal biologically, not socially. But you are relying on your tenth false statement.

Because we are equal these social injustices should not exist. I address, you do not.

Yes, I proselytize to the sheep about ___? (fill in the blank with an accurate topic)

Anyway, I'm done. Have fun arguing against yourself.

  • People like DeathVaaark1877 are amazing- simply LISTENING to Ayanna Watson will dispel any inane accusations DeadAaark brings up. But infantile ignancy is more fun for some I guess.

I can't wait to go to Washington DC to meet her and many other distinguished speakers at the American Atheists Convention 25,26 March 2012 in Bethesda MD. A convention that's not featuring any divisive white-hating idiots that DedVaaargh1492 imagines Ms Watson to be.

  • @727Phoenix Thank you so much!! I look forward to meeting you, as well.

I'm actually taking a break from working on my speech. I am certainly looking forward to both, the Reason Rally and AA Convention.

  • Awesome argument i make a few spelling errors and that makes you correct....brilliant deduction mr watson.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 No, you made many grammatical and spelling errors. Please point out, again, where I said that your errors make me correct? I made no such deduction.

Or will you admit that you are making yet another false statement?

  • So now if Im from anouther country and dont have the proper verbage Im wrong.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 No, I did not say that either. I said that you cannot read english well. Where did I say that that alone makes you right or wrong?

The issue is that you are attempting to discredit social injustices with a biological argument. Race should not matter, but it certainly does socially. We have plenty of evidence to support that. If you choose to ignore it, then so be it. If you do not want to be an activist for equality, then ok. It's not for everyone.

  • "I didnt call you a bigot I called you semi racist" oh shit that makes all the difference.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 I did not call you a "semi racist." LOL. Those quotations are incorrect. I would never use the term "semi racist."

Anyway, you clearly are having a battle with yourself, so I'll leave you to that.

    Have fun.

  • Play it how you want u called me a bigot just because you called me sir first doesnt excuse it

  • @DarthAardvark1977 I do not think you can read english well.

I did not call you a bigot. Yet, another false statement.

These are all names you called me. Are you confused about what you are typing?

  • Foot in mouth disease is a mother fucker

  • @DarthAardvark1977 I'm guessing you cannot read well.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 Are you talking about yourself?

  • i just pasted it bigot

  • @DarthAardvark1977 LOL. No you did not.

You posted twice a statement I made about embracing institutionalized racism.

If you can't see the distinction between the two then say so. There is a difference between the two. I did not call you a racist. Perhaps you are reading your own comment?

  • @DarthAardvark1977 Well, your comments show that you embrace institutionalized racism. omg are you drinking the flavor aid?

  • @DarthAardvark1977 Where did I label you a racist?

  • I dont know if you watch tv but white people are broke also and they dont sit in there trailor thinking about ways to keep you down.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 LOL.

Keep them coming. Statement #4 based on a false premise - " they dont sit in there trailor thinking about ways to keep you down." <-- Please point out when I said that they did.

How many of these are you going to make? Perhaps you could limit it to one comment, so we can get it over with.

  • This group of people agree with me so it must be correct. Can you use another logical falacy in your argument or is pointing it out make me more of a racist?

  • @DarthAardvark1977 No, I'm pointing out that I have support from people who want to address the issue of racism outside of blacks.

Did I call you a racist? Or is this comment #3 which we can contribute to your list of false statements.

  • Argument from ad populem ffs its sad.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 LOL. Your unsupported claims are absolutely absurd.

I never said anything close to "everybody is a racist." Your second false statement.

  • I can hear the banjo music playing with every keystroke.

  • everybody is a racist to you obviously because I cant even point out your racism without you fireing it back at me its sad realy.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 Hmm. . The hypocrisy. Your comment - "grow the fuck up and stop believing in fairy tales ffs!!"

I explain that ignoring racism further promotes it and you think that means that I'm racist? It's funny that I have the support of people from various different ethnicities. These are people that understand the need to improve diversity. These individuals truly embrace equality and want to eliminate racism. (continued)

  • I don't see how this distinction helps us in anyway. We are all the same species and this blob of a blog if I may call it such only serves to separate people. The distinction is flawed and only exists in your mind. It has nothing with speciation or any of that nonsense. Its cultural wich is a meme. Im a honky and i do not believe in god and your revulsion for my color is something that must be addressed in yourself. Grow the fuck up and stop believing in fairy tales ffs!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DarthAardvark1977 Well, your comments show that you embrace institutionalized racism. I choose to address. Race is not a biological issue, it's a social issue. Ignoring it only further promotes it.

Just because racism should not exist does not mean that it does not exist. You have to address problems and come up with real solutions.

I do not have a "revulsion" for your color. Where did you get this? LOL.

It is clear that you are not an activist for equality. Talk to me when you become one.

  • @DarthAardvark1977 Part 2 - Racism does not go away simply because you will it. It must be addressed. Simply stating "we are equal" does not make it a reality.

The black community is plagued with poor education, poor healthcare, police brutality, etc. Either you believe that blacks are inherently inferior, or you have some other reason for these disparities. It is not "in my head." These are social realities. Take some time to look at social injustices in this country.

  • ANYONE INTERESTED IN A BLOG ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICAN ATHEIST’S PLEASE CHECK IT OUT. -THE PEOPLE’S MIC

    thepeoplesmic.blogspot.com

  • I'm black!

  • Its really horrible to even have a distinction . How are we supposed to progress as a nation if we continue to hinder it by separating ourselves . I'm a fan of moving on together not just as blacks but as an entire nation . this is so IDIOTIC .

  • Comment removed

  • @ALARMINGadaora What I have come to realize is that the small amount of people who are intimidated by racism, tend not to be activist within the atheist and humanist communities. Hence, the reason I have received so much support from people of many different backgrounds who truly would like to see racism eliminated. You do not get rid of social injustice by ignoring it. You have to fight it head on. If it makes you or anyone else uncomfortable, well perhaps you should evaluate why.

  • i think it might be time to stop trying to relate with other black people so greatly, we're all humans. you can relate to white people too.

  • @dblubarry I do, but does that mean I should turn my head to the lack of diversity within the atheist community? Many do not. In fact, I have worked with other organizations who are seeking to diversity their membership - whether by focusing on ethnicities, age, sex, etc.

No one is arguing that we are not all humans. We are arguing the exact opposite. We are all humans, hence why is it that only certain cultures are adequately represented?

  • The issues with religion in regards to social problems is that those who are theist use the wrong methods in confronting those issues which are just illogical and pointless. using logic reason, anaylsis and direct action are generally what athiest use to confront a problem of some sort. Ultimate its an ingrained method of control programmed into us to prevent us from really acting the change things in our community!

  • We atheists in other sections of the community are here to support you. Being enlightened and rational can be lonely sometimes, but there are more of us every day.

  • @Mousepie999 Thank you for the support!

  • R.I.P. C. H.

  • @20jandrews A great loss. :-(

  • YOU ARE SO HOT

  • @20jandrews Thank you.

  • @20jandrews said [[You are so hot]]

Yes, and her message is important as well.

  • @LucisFerre1 Thank you. :-)

  • No need to feel alone please watch The BLACK ATHEIST OF ATLANTA with Brother Ankh and Blackson!

  • @Krytikalmass I do not support that organization.

  • @Krytikalmass I would guess that most people don't know that The Infidel Guy is an African American.

  • as a half black half latino atheist, i kind of notice that i'm the only black atheist i know

  • Interesting video.

  • After hanging out in the "issues with race" chat room on PalTalk for a few months and listening to the great variety of black voices there, I better understand where you are coming from. Good Luck to you! Happy Holidays to you and your family as well!

  • @KasparHauser6 Thank you. Same to you. :-)

  • I understand your point, but don't discriminate yourself.

  • @joegt123 I'm not discriminating myself. Actually, my work has proven quite the opposite - which was my intention.

  • @Ayanna18vcu great video. Every atheist should keep pushing the message: intelligence, rational thinking and skepticism are traits to be proud of, not ashamed for and certainly not be ostracised from their loved ones for.

  • I'm sorry but your so-called relationship is just the same as for a white person. It's one-sided, because there is no god.Just like it is for a white person.

  • @daverigby23 I'm sorry that you do not see the fallacy in your statement. There are MANY religious whites. There is nothing "white" about not believing. In fact, if you studied history you would notice that there have always been black atheists in the black community. They were no less "black."

  • mos athiest stop believing in god because of religion. a lack of understanding the bible and most importantly because they do not wanna be bound by rules. the phrase "Do what thou wilt"explains there thinking. i believe god gave us that free will to choose. whats odd many athiest believe the physical world came from absolutely nothing, but a god cant do the same kinda hipocritcal. if believing in god is a delusion then believing we came from nothing is the equivalent of believing in magic.

  • @therealistone2003 Says the scientifically illiterate. Next time when a physicist explains thise stuff, try actually paying attention, m'kay,

  • @Iceprince1989 well i would but every few years physicists have this very uncanny thing they like to do. they invent a theory and promote it aa fact and teach it to our kids and says thats how the universe was created. then someone else comes up with another theory and another and so on. right now as we speak there are numerous competiting theories trying to answer the unaswerable the orign of the universe. all claiming they are right...and dont say m'kay again sounds so gay.

  • @therealistone2003 That is because science is not static, which doesn't make it closer to being wrong, quite the contrary. Those theories are closer to the truth than a 2000 year old book written by sheep herders, with pages missing, that does stay static regardless of any new discoveries. Also theories aren't taught as fact, they are taught as theories. Well, gee, I sound gay? That's a relief, my boyfriend of 14 months was REALLY starting to get suspicious. lol, gotta love homophobia.

  • Comment removed

  • @therealistone2003 No, this is untrue. A number of studies show that atheists are more knowledgeable of the bible (and other religious texts) than theists. I am bound by rules, but not to barbaric and misogynistic book.

You believe which god? There are thousands of them.

What's odd is that you know nothing about atheists. Atheists do not believe that.

    Again, which god? Define it.

  • @BlackAtheistsAmerica oh really well please point me to these many studies i am so eager to know how can someone who has zero belief in the text they are reading can know more then someone who believes what they are reading and govern their life around.remember athiests represent a very small percentage of people in comparison to theists. please show me these impossible studies. your whole post reeks of lies

  • @therealistone2003, why would you believe what you are reading while you are reading it... Should you not be reading it first and then deciding whether to believe it or not?

  • @therealistone2003 I'll send a 2010 Pew study to your inbox. I guess these people are lying too? No one said that atheists govern their lives around a text. In fact, theists do not do that. If they did, they'd likely be in jail. Many of the mandates in the bible have been outlawed.

  • @BlackAtheistsAmerica BlackAtheistsAmerica THANKS FOR THE SURVEY. im gonna say a few things about your survey. first your survey does prove that atheist are a little smarter in world religion then people of faith.you were correct. yet the questions ask were so general they could have appeared on jepordy.secondly most atheist were once theist and have some religious knowledge. i thought the survey could have been more specific towards belief and text knowledge.

  • @BlackAtheistsAmerica also the questions were not on religious text or the bible as i stated they were pretty general questions.my point was that atheist are not more knowledgeable about specifics of the bible as a person who studies the bible would.i would be willing to bet that christians got most of the questions right that pertained to their beliefs and not others.in that aspect you would be wrong. atheist being knowledgeable of general questions on world religion u win

  • Most of my so called christian friends told me that they were saddened that I would not be joining them in heaven while a few accused me of being arrogant and insulting to god for questioning his existance. Either way, they are all taught not to associate with non-believers for fear of becomming one on them. This was the price I payed for shunning the fantasy.

  • @TomWeiss0 This is quite disappointing and the reason Black Atheists of America, and other organizations exists. You may want to reach out to these groups.

I wish you the best of luck.

  • Belief in a god is for many people the only thing that gives them a sense of purpose and reason in an insane world. Without it, the world we live in has very little meaning. It also gives them hope that not only is there life after death which allows them to accept death but when they get there some of their friends and relatives will be there waitig for them. Athiest take that hope away from them, I am a white athiest. When I announced my athienism my christian friends quickly disapeared.

  • Many who are angered by the oppression of their ancestors carry on the religious beliefs of the long dead oppressors. Perhaps they should use that anger to motivate change and abandon the beliefs that never were their beliefs, but only faiths of one people conquering another group of people at one time. Without the brutal conquests of Spain, how many South Americans and Mexicans would be Catholic? Without European slavery, how many African Americans would be Christian?

  • i probably would have just said that black folks have a difficult time connecting with other black atheists are simply because majority of black folk believe in God and they are stigmatized if they step out of the norm. "I don't feel that other cultures have religion as closely linked to their culture as does the Black community." A lot of cultures associate themselves with their faith in another being. That was too much of a generalization. But I totally know what u mean

  • 2:35 - "I don't feel that other cultures have religion as closely linked to their culture as does the Black community."

You might need to qualify that statement.

You know, atheists are very much like certain factions of the LGBT community, in that it seems you all are constantly trying to assert yourself, as some "force to be reckoned with", when the fact of the matter is that most people (including even Christians) DO NOT CARE. People may find it peculiar, but they get over it.

  • @NYTNinAmerica Most people DO care. If it were a personal thing, then there would be no need to discuss it. However, that is not the case. Religion cripples an individuals ability to critical think. This is most detrimental to low-income areas. The same areas which are heavily populated with black and hispanics.

Then we have the issue of religion affecting "outsiders." An example is gay marriage.

Hence, it is GROSSLY inaccurate to say that people do not care.

  • Ayanna is the hottest atheist

  • @nivca2 Aww....Thank you. :-)

  • TELL ME WHEN THE EVENTIS COMING TO BROWARD COUNTY FL, & THIS AFRICAN BROTHER WILL BE THERE.

  • @BadassCeino We are on Facebook. If you have an account, you can search for the 'Black Atheists of America' page. We post our events there.

    Thanks.

  • @BlackAtheistsAmerica I'll be connecting with you guys on facebook. Thanks again for the invite, & don't let these little thugs on youtube scare you. Keep doing your videos to wake up the ones that need to be awake.

  • @BadassCeino lol thugs im not hating on her movement remember is her free will and choice to not believe. its her god given right. i hope she fails to currupt and convert people in to atheist because for every soul she turns from god she will be held accountable for i hope that she can help people in the community in some more useful way. it seems to me that she could help a broader base of people. i think its more of a personal crusade...i could be wrong

  • Why does it always have to be a black or white thing?

  • @Jrandolph1200 Because institutionalized racism is still alive in America. To ignore it only further promotes it. It essentially says that racism is ok.

People are always uncomfortable talking about important topics - racism, sexism, finances, sex, etc.

I choose to address it head on. That's how one eliminates a problem.

  • It's really nice to hear about these distinctions, because around here in Finland, you don't have the slightest idea of how it works. I mean, pretty much everybody around is so white you start to doubt your bleach, and eventhough it's probably much easier to be an atheist around here than it would be even for white person in the US, you just don't get it before being told. Kudos!

  • @ssyreeni Thank you. I agree. I've learn so much from Filipino atheists, as well.

  • I am atheist first, never am I a black atheist.

  • That was a fantastic presentation. I think I had noticed what you are saying but not being black I haven't the personal experience. So, I'm saying this is very important to me just to have greater understanding. We're all African but we're not all "black" in the sense of the American Black Experience. So as we are all together in this, some of us have to notice the different needs of others "of us". You are very impressive and inspiring. Good job!

  • I'm Polish, white and buddhist living in UK, with seemingly nothing in common with your situation, however look

... our human social needs are not based on any believe system, but are deeply rooted in our common human nature, there is universal way for simple yet deep mind to mind, heart to heart comunication...

... if you want to overcome culture issue you need to respond to your fellows need of love, appreciation, understanding, sense of unity and freedom, among many...it's simply human way

  • Hi Ayanna,

I perfectly understand why you draw attention to the particularities of Afroamerican Atheism. These experiences an Afroamerican encounters mirror the ones a Polish guy like me could have. I was lucky though because most relatives I have are not so tough on religion, but just by dissenting with religious habbits and professing your atheism you can end up isolated in your Polish community, family, whatever. Well Americans (Afro- or Euro-americans seem to be more religious anyway)

  • I have to agree with you on that note. My wife is a christian and we have had some heated arguments about the existence of god. My wife literally threw things over the house at me, because I told her why I believe there is no god and everything she believes was taught from friends and family. When she plays gospel music it sounds so stupid to my ears, but I don't say nothing to avoid a vicious debated. I am a black atheist.

  • Good video, thanks for making it.

  • White atheist from England here, this is the first time I'd even considered the issues you're talking about. I like to think that atheists would be more welcoming of other races than religious people might be. I do appreciate that there's really no substitute for finding a friend with the same cultural heritage as yourself but I hope that doesn't stop black atheist from trying to get along with white atheists.

  • Always hard to find support when the base is small (like ex-Muslim's). I hope you stay strong and find more atheists and are able to bring over your arguments to your community. After all, by putting yourself out there, you do more good than bad in the long run.

  • What I don't get is how black people can be christian when the bible itself endorses slavery.

  • @TaoTeChing00 slavery of white people also. so you can make the same case for white people that can be christian.

  • @TaoTeChing00 I ask that to all my good friends who are black. They never have an answer for it. sad

  • @TaoTeChing00 - They rationalize it with other verses that claims God doesnt endorse it. But from what I "HEARD" God was only talking about Israelites.

  • @TaoTeChing00 if you research 'Hannibal defeats Italy', you find that blacks held whites as slaves too...so why are there white christians for the same slavery reason ?

  • @mysterymediacorp Because white people don't generally feel slavery is an issue related to them. The same can't be said for african americans.

  • By the way, it's good to see a "free-thinking" Black woman like you. "Free-thinkers" are leaders of self; we refuse to be blind followers of others. We're not so easily fooled, tricked, or coerced into doing, living, believing, or behaving the way others want us to behave. We don't allow others to dictate to us.

  • I'd rather be alone and true to myself than to be surrounded by family and community and live a lie. I am a "Free-Thinker." I don't believe in anything that I can't see, hear, smell, taste, or feel. The bible is null and void, because I don't believe in its main character, God. I don't like labels, so I also reject Atheism. I have no desire to hang out in any social groups and proclaim my beliefs. I like me, and I don't need validation from others. For me, it's enough that I don't believe

  • @MonsieurMerc "For me, it's enough that I don't believe" This attitude is perhaps one of the factors that most contributes to things being the way the are The majority of our leading intellectuals are guilty of it.

It's precisely the shirking of the duty to be vocal about calling bullshit when you see it that is guaranteed to be free of any impact on ones environment whatsoever. Let's have a little more Rosa Parks and less Uncle Tom when it comes to enabling the faith based mindset. Thank you.

  • @fctchk, OUCH! That really hurt! I'm kidding. I understand your views, and I will respect them. As I said, I refuse to be a follower, and I will always allow others to disagree with my way of thinking/feeling/acting in our society. It's so great to be unique; this is why I'm OK with just living my life, and putting anyone in their place when they attempt to force their views, religion, and lifestyle upon me; however, I'm not so arrogant to believe that I have the right to "train" others.

  • @Omnicron777 did she say it was not ingrained in other cultures? stupid comment.

  • Need to find black atheist study groups on my college campus.

Sadly, most of the blacks here are creationist. I'll do ANYTHING to find at least ONE Black atheist.

  • Atheism has nothing to say about being black.

Being black has nothing to say about atheism.

  • We need as many sub-groups of atheists as possible to help everyone feel there is a home somewhere for them in the larger atheist community. If that means there are niche support groups then that's great. Let there be niche support for black atheists, college atheists, senior citizen atheists, republican atheists, gay atheists, former Muslims now atheists, former Mormons now atheists, etc. That's how grass roots works. Thanks for posting this video.

  • "You want to know how to get rid of racism? Stop talking about it." -Winston Churchill.

  • @TheGreenMonkeylfh: Um... I am pretty sure this is a stupid idea.

  • @TheGreenMonkeylfh Sorry, but that has to be the most idiotic quote I've heard from this dude. Especially considering the bullshit Europe just went through when he was alive. How can you get rid of a issue by not talking about it? That's kind of the exact opposite of people advise you to do when face with problems. Sorry Winston must have been high as a kite.

  • @TheGreenMonkeylfh ‎" . . . there are times when silence becomes an accomplice to injustice . . ." - Ayaan Hirsi Ali

  • @BlackAtheistsAmerica In saying this, you are not acknowledging what the quote is in regards to. By distinguishing people based on such a trivial thing as skin tone you further develop a difference. Also, you're treating atheism like a religion, which is just so absurd. Atheism isn't a belief or a religious viewpoint, rather it's a lack thereof.

  • @TheGreenMonkeylfh Race is not biological. However, it is something that is not only perpetuated by how people talk about it, it is also kept alive by interlocking social institutions in America that perpetuate white supremacy. Atheist groups and gatherings are not at all immune to race and the problem of white supremacy.

  • @TheGreenMonkeylfh Race is not trivial when it is institutionalized. Atheism is not a religion, never have I stated that, nor acted as such. Socializing is not exclusive to religion. What viewpoint am I holding as representative of all atheists? Please explain.

The quote was in response to the silly quote from Churchill. Turning a blind eye has never worked to fight social injustice. Activism is how one fights an injustice.

  • @TheGreenMonkeylfh False. That is no solution, it is merely supression. For a large measure America has stopped talking about race. Race is not in the daily consciousness of America and as such very few strides have been made since the 1970s. Embracing difference is the only way to "get rid" of racism, ignoring it makes the problem worse because societal problems relating to race are taboo and will not be changed.

  • @snschley06, this is a controversial opinion, but IMO a certain segment of the party of the KKK, the party of Jim Crow, the party of segregation, the party of 'separate but equal' the party that opposed Lincoln and the ratification of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments of the Constitution, yes, the Democratic party, have chosen to "help" by subsidizing poverty & single motherhood in poor neighborhoods, etc. This has nearly DESTROYED impoverished American cultures over the past 45-50 years.

  • I blame slavery for the indoctrination, as eternal happiness appeals to the oppressed.

  • I was an atheist at one point, and she's right athleticism isn't excepted in the black community. Black people, (I'm speaking about the whole, not the individual) don't except atheists. Then again black people (as a whole) don't except any one who thinks differently, gay, white, Goth, whatever.if you challenge convention the general rule is to keep you out. Now is that because of God or religion? I think it's more that old slave mentality, where your not suppose to question, just do as your told
