Tolkien's themes were meant primarily to address more general concepts of good and evil, creation and destruction, and microcosms. I think you've more-or-less missed the point, and misappropriated one of the most profound and artistic epic tales of all time for a more-or-less impotent and hackneyed political gesture.
dudes its a hilarious video why are we being political about this? & free trade capitalism is very much just a scheme to take control of 3rd world countries i'd say the video very accurately depicts capitalism!
This is amusing, but it grossly overstates and understates vital things in varying degrees. Reality is not as neat and tidy as this charming little video pretends.
The movie was weak and didn't follow the books at all. Read one of the last chapters of the trillogy "the scouring of the shire" and understand its anti socialist, anti collectivist message. Coporations can not legislate law, government can. Souron was more like a dictator, a statist and NOT free trade minded ELECTED official.
@espada9 Of course it didn't follow the books or the actual movie. For chumps like the ones who made this video, the only books they read are 'The Communist Manifesto,' 'Das Kapital,' and Noam Chomsky's works which aren't fit for toilet paper, much less reading.

dont confuse democracy with capitalism, democracy is what gave us workers rights and the ability to form organized unions. Capitalism is trying to undo this
@vpaiva3 See this is just completely wrong. Capitalism nor democracy can neither give nor take rights. They are within you, your freedom stems from your mind, your liberty from your property. You own your thoughts, you own your body, you own your life. Either you have "worker's rights" or you don't. And no, corporatism may be trying to undo it, but capitalism is just the market, and we don't have a free market at all. Please do some research. Scratch that... do a LOT of research.
no dude, capitalism does lead to gross inequality and the ownership of all things through capital. supporters of capitalism such as milton friedman know this; they merely don't see it as a problem. i think that you are the one who needs to do the research. even if you want to be a supporter of capitalism, you have to know what you're supporting and be okay with it. the founders of capitalist thought know this. read adam smith.
@TRBtree Milton Friedman would not say that capitalism creates gross inequality, but yes he would say that it leads to the ownership of all things. I've been doing research on this for three years. John Locke also would say that liberty comes from your humanity, not government, which is what my post was about. I said nothing about owning things. So when retorting, stay on subject, and if necessary, do some research as well.

Why don't you go live to glorious capitalist Africa or Asia from which imperialist countries extract majority of their clothes, consumer electronics, fruits, oil, raw materials and much more? You have not been in the receving end of free trade, so shut the fuck up about standard of living in socialist countries.

@danfromabove is right; Tolkein was a feudal, conservative Catholic who believed in unlimited population growth and was quite happy to tolerate feudal and other heirarchical structures.
@Nizaris1 Yes, I would definitely agree with that. State capitalism is the engine of imperialism. But, as history tells us, all empires die eventually. And by their own means as well. It's convenient that Afghanistan is the place where all empires go to die. From Alexander to Kublai Khan to the British Empire and the USSR and now the Anglo-American Empire.
Yes...but before it die, it create total mess first...chaos, and during that, history show us that ther are a lot of opportunists taking advantage. And everything repeat itself, the empire may die, but from the ashes, it live again...in new form...as long as human still corrupted by greed and lust...
what is that? Anyway, in capitalist business, they always right, customer always wrong, take customer money first. Example, i buy broadband service, coverage suck, not like the ads, i make complaint, they ask my computer spec, BS. Then they ask me to use it at high coverage area, another BS.
We should do our best to make sure people don't stay in government too long. There needs to be a continual stream of new faces in government to ensure it's fairly representative and not being extorted or used by malovent people. When I look at government, i see wayy wayyyy too many faces that have been there toooo long.
So government is our friend, but only if it's of the people and its sole job is to use our collective knowledge (all people, not just rich politicians or big box corporations) to regulate our animal impulses which WILL put into ruin our world if we do nothing (just like in LOTR). When government fails, we all fail.
One only has to look how sarumum and sauron treated the envrinment around them. They exploited it and layed it to waste. They used to fatten up their own wealth. We see this as evil, but to be honest, I see it as ignorance. I don't think people and corporations are greedy or evil, I just think they're ignorant. Governmentor councils are the collective knowledge of all peolpe, and they're meant to reign in our animal impulses (ignorance, greed) to maintain order and quality of life.
If we do not stand up to regulate this evil (actually it's greed on the surface of it, but underneath it's just ignorance), it will eat away at the commons (earth) and over time lower our quality of life (instead of focusing on people as human beings corporations want to treat them as products, as numbers, as an Orc in LOTR).
So, in my mind, the fellowship, rivendel, all of them, were conspiring to regulate the ring, the ring to rule them all. In our case, that ring is corporations that want to do everything the cheapest possible way, even at the expense of the commons (and the people). To stop this from happening, the people, in the form of a council or government, must stand up to stop it (regulate it).
I really don't see how you can call Lord of the Rings anarchist when it depicts an obviously stratified class structure as a societal good. Without the mutually beneficial relationships of all the races, each representing a different class, Sauron wins. Sauron is defeated by a centralized, militarized state. The hobbits only drive the remnants of Sarumon's forces from the Shire when the returning hobbits, who have learned the ways of the "big people," provide them with a centralized command.
@proletarcccp I'm replying to this comment 6 months late, so I hope you forgive me. Anywho, I don't think that a reasonable argument can be made for LOTR being communist, either. As previously mentioned, LOTR depicts a symbiotic relationship between classes, while communism is the dictatorship of the proletariat or peasantry (Marx or Mao). Tolkien is extremely conservative, and those who try to adapt his writings to their own "liberal" political beliefs are grasping at straws.
Seriously, in the opening battle, the two sides should have been reversed: The elven/ human warriors represent the riot police (Brave, orderly, devoted to restoring peace and order and protecting the innocent), the orcs perfectly epitomize the Anarchist blac bloc freaks (Messy disorganized ranks, rotted teeth as a result of Meth Mouth, horrible smell, and devoted to spreading violence, carnage and chaos). Even the fighting tactics demonstrated by each side in the battle is proof of this.
The orcs could represent anarcho-socialists possibly. But they bowed down to Sauron and Saruman. Tolkien's words on the Hobbits lead us to believe they were his ideal people(and pretty much anarchists).
The Hobbits are essentially anarchists, and they are peaceful and happy.
The ring represents government power. Lots of people want it, for different reasons. A major point is what they say "why can't we use the ring to destroy the ring(get to mt doom)". This is analogous to saying we can use government to fight government. But you cannot use evil to drive out evil.
You missed the point of the story by a mile, my friend.
The hobbits are the simple-minded peasant class who rely on the benevolence of the warrior class (Gondor, etc.) for their protection. He goes on and on about the right of Aragorn to rule due to his lineage. Tolkien was about as anarchist as Edmund Burke.
Anarchists don't believe in God? How does that make any sense?
Tolkien wrote "My political opinions lean more and more to Anarchy (philosophically understood, meaning abolition of control not whiskered men with bombs)" in a letter to his son. You can read it online, its also in a book "The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.
I wrote a paper on this subject(anarchy and lord of the rings), and I can tell you that you have no idea what you are talking about.
granted I am not aware of the quote, but one must take into account Tolkien's religious world view. As a catholic (I believe Roman C.), he would not adhere to anarchy in terms of these definitions of anarchy:
b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority. b : absence of order : disorder <not manicured plots but a wild anarchy of nature —
But perhaps this:
1c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government
Without Government, there is another kind of order however, and that is something like a theocracy, and of course the theological concept of "The Kingdom of God" which should be brought into consideration when calling Tolkien an anarchist.
Stop Stop Stop! you've got it completely backward. Tolkien was a admitted anarchist. The ring symbolizes government, not free trade. Destroy government...then human greed, in the form of corporations, will loose its powerful tool to control other men. Tolkien would roll over in his grave.
Let me guess. You would have the ring to do good, right? ha ha hah. Watch the movies again. You'll find that you are no Froto.
Dude I think you have WAY too much time on your hands. And just as a side note for all the discussions going on, i'm a liberal AND i believe in free trade. Don't just go grouping people together, thats like saying all conservatives are a bunch of neo nazis, ya know?
You dumbass liberals are a bunch of f'n morons. Same as you enviromental bitches. so suck your precious cow dick and leave politics to people who know what is going on. faggots
i don't know who you mean when you address 'liberals,' but if you mean to suggest that this détourned clip in any way promotes liberalism, you're grossly mistaken. the philosophy espoused here is that of what is referred to by serious people as libertarian socialism (aka anarchism or non-authoritarian communism).
this has nothing to do with a liberal embrace of obama or clinton or any other world-destructive moron.
People really need to know the difference between corporatism and capitalism. Corporatism is the use of the states powers to seek their own intrest (which need a strong fascist state) while capitalism the the government protection of the individuals life, liberty and property. If you are going to bitch about our current economic state then you need to first get your definitions right.
At 5:19, you went from sounding like an intelligent social critic/political philosopher to sounding like a Nazi: Gandalf wanted to leave the decision to Frodo free of any gross oversimplification. Unfortunately, you make it sound like evil will be defeated as soon as capitalism is overthrown.
Please consider the following: "Animal Farm" - George Orwell
Why ex-Socialist? yesterday alone stockbroker scum lost £18bn of other people's pension money on one company (Volkswagen). Why has nobody gone to gaol for this?
Put ten of them in prison (any ten will do, they're all guilty). If the haven't made stealing on this scale illegal, put ten law-makers in prison as well and chain the rest of them to their PCs until they put it back the way they found it.
Stupid? What6 in comparison to giving them £500bn of our money? How is that clever?
its coming haaha your all calling this bullshit now because your all fucking hypocrites wait till shit goes down and we have a one world government. WERE ALL SCREWED
As an ex-socialist I can appreciate this one. The second movie (Twin Towers) ends ominously: "The war in Iraq may soon be over, the war at home is about to begin..." With Gollum leading the youth (young voters) up Mordor (the Democratic Party establishment, perhaps? Obama 2008?)
The third part: "Return of Real Democracy" Coming Soon!
Hopefully a constitutional democracy which sanctions mans individual rights. The importance of a constitution is so a majority can never vote away the rights to life liberty and private property (pursuit of happiness) of a minority.
Wow. This video really has capitalism on the ropes. What's your knockout punch? The Teletubbies show us that money is the root of all evil? I am determined to restore capitalism in America. We have lived too long without it.
his is hilarious, such silly bullshit, but still hilarious. Listening to Gandalf and Frodo and Orcs talk about Globilization and the Economy cracks me up.
This was well made, and the parallels always ran smooth. I am no fan of communism or anarchy, but that doesn't stop the short from being really nice. The only problem I have is the last 5 seconds. That was really fucked up.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That sucked, losers. Stupid, unfunny and inaccurate.
In the beginning battle, the sides should have been reversed. The riot police were like the human/elven warriors, and the violent, lawless Anarchist black bloc freaks were like the orcs(Hyper- aggressive bloodlust, butt-ugly, really bad teeth as a result of all the crystal meth they take, horrible smell) who sought to turn the city into a war zone.
Anarchy sucks, I'm sticking with capitalism. Shame on you for perverting a cool movie.
Dude, you suck. Free Trade is ruining the youth of asia with it's pompous bigotry and pastry sales. Fundraiser donations mean nothing when faced with the plight of ignorant sea turtles, dying of a lack of plastic in their diet. You obviously are a mormon. Go Die, Tard.
People are free to set their prices as low as they want, yet supply and demand dictates the selling of a CD for $20 when it costs nearly a quarter to make. So capitalism's failure contradicts many anarchists' perceived premise behind anarchy. Capitalism's fine. We should not be trying to change the economic system, but rather the hearts of those in power.
It's interesting. Capitalism is really the closest practical economic system to anarchy. A lot of anarchists state that anarchy is based on the premise that all people are innately good, fore without established laws, the innate virtue in us all will influence our actions. Capitalism completely fails on any humanitarian level because those with power exploit those without it.
But you see, that's where capitalism and anarchy differ. Capitalism assumes that people inherently seek out their own self interest (which is true-see Adam Smith's explanation of the invisible hand) Capitalistic economists like Adam Smith argue that govt's proper role is to protect rights. But when it comes to the economy, the market sets prices & determine who does or doesn't stay in business. In every system where the government has tried to regulate the entire market, the result was collapse.
Yeah, who wants to be free? I'd much rather be a slave and let the nanny government dictate every detail of my life. After all, countries dominated by socialism and communism are such stellar examples of high quality of life for citizens, booming economies and low power distance.
As a Swede, I couldn't agree more with this, although you mean it as sarcasm. I much rather be ruled by someone I can vote away than by someone who rules me just because he has the economic power to do so.
I know I'm replying to someone who is proud to give away half of their income to a govt monopoly, but I'll still try. In a free system where interference from govt and bureaucrats is minimized, all you need to obtain economic power is knowledge and initiative. Currently, votes of the people are REGULATED. Sweden's and every other country's economies continue due to the fact that the marketplace isn't totally regulated (or in other words, there are still some aspects of "evil" capitalism)
FREEDOM IS EVIL! Down with personal liberty! Give your sovereignty to the government. For Big Brother is greater than us all. He will decide what is best. He will protect us! We need not think for ourselves! Together comrades, we can elect an elite class to decide what our best self-interest is. From each according to his ability BY THE SWORD, to each according to his needs THAT BIG BROTHER DECIDES!
You are deceived.Capitalism that violates principle is not capitalism. Punish only the guilty.
The depth of ignorance displayed in this video is nothing short of astounding. I am sorely tempted to attempt to educate you but, the truth is there is no winning an argument with irrational people. Just read Ayn Rand if you want to understand the truth about Capitalism. Mixed market economics is not true Capitalism.
How dare you call Tolkien a communist. For if you eliminate capitalism and make everything public like you want the world will turn communist. Tolkien was not a communist. Actually from the sounds of it your a communist.
Globalization isn't going to help the poor, it's just going to make them dependent on the power of rich special interests who loot their countries resources. Free trade is about as effective at equalizing decent living standards throughout the world as the Bush Doctrine is at jamming American-controlled and corporate-sponsored "democracy" (read oligarchy) down the throats of "our little brown-skinned brothers" in the middle-east.
*rolls eyes* You could do this with plenty of other films. Just because you can change the actual words doesn't mean you're right about the meaning. Though a world where everyone simply shared instead of trying to get rich would be lovely
True, Superapplefrog, but Tolkien did have an anti-industrial, pro-egalitarian theme running throughout the work, despite it not being a specific allegory for or against any one ideology. I think that's why this video is relatively effective, because it expounds on Tolkien's feelings towards the machination of society in general.
If I wanted I could show how Tolkien has a blind date theme running through the workd, a superman theme running through the work, or even a let's throw crap at people theme running through the work. You could apply the work to pretty much anything.
i think its safe to say that were just a bit good, despite my mind being too free to understand all this world stuff. kind of proves corruption, hehe, battle of seattle >_> funny stuff
I don't know if you can really say Free Trade is the problem, or even capitalism. I think you have to realize that anytime human societies are split into different classes, the ruling class will create tools to oppress the others. US dominated free trade is one example. Russian Communism might also be considered the same. Don't get pulled into a Capitalism vs. Communism debate, cause the real issue is human welfare and class systems, not insignificant political ideologies.
Hmm, a strange take on my favorite movie, but what the hell, it proves that there are parallels between the struggle against Sauron and Capitalism, and that both might be drawing to their close.
Well, if you're able to study something as profoundly useless and ideologically motivated as economics currently is, then you're not likely of the class of people whose resources are being privatized by IMF fiat, like water resources in Bolivia. Those who aren't insulated from the real world can tell you the problems with free trade by the dozens.
well... an econs student here, free trade is not all that bad from what we learnt...? but since it's defined as exchange of g&s btw countries without any artificial restrictions
Well I enjoyed the clip as entertainment with a dash of food for thought thrown in to it. Can't say I've allowed myself to get as worked up as some of the punters though :o) - Thanks for the posting & entertainment.
Taalacus fuck you, why do you say that he is a pig, you're a fool of a salve who works his entire life for NOTHING, making the real bosses even more money, so fuck you and fuck communism and fuck capitalism and fuck all.
I live in Seattle. The only thing WTO did here was wreck a Nike store (while wearing nikes) and mess up our streets. We almost hit a guy dressed as a giant turtle. WTF???
Conspiracy theories? Read a bit of history. Hell, read the papers. They aren't exactly hiding these things. Look up "Washington Consensus," "Trilateral Commission", "Multilateral Agreement on Investment," NAFTA's "Chapter 11," the WTO, IMF and "Structural Adjustment Plans", FTAA, GATT, TRIPS, CAFTA. Or just read "The Non-Nonsense Guide To Globalization," easily found on Amazon or at most major booksellers.
Start a movement? Where have you been the past years? There are several movements allready, 'the battle of seatlle' isn't fiction you know (only the orcs were uglier)
Hats off to J.C. of the Bay Area (the real creator of this...) / His website is down ... but, it used to be passionbomb dot com ... the two towers sequel was there as well ... good stuff .. J.C. you jam econo, wherever you are - peace!
I mean, its a little hard to believe that peter jackson had a second message when he did this. But the message is right, WTO, Globalization, ur very right my man and this is a very creative and ingeneous way to spread the message. Hats too yeah.
If you don't want capitalism, what do you want? Socialism?

This is how I see it (funny video btw).
-We can go focus on buying the cheapest products and send jobs overseas. This will leave our lower skilled workers jobless.
-We can focus on putting everyone to work and spending the highest possible price since we're not buying products from other nations.
-We can find a balance between having domestic jobs and lower prices that're from overseas.
Finding the balance is the hard part.

The orcs could represent anarcho-socialists possibly. But they bowed down to Sauron and Saruman. Tolkien's words on the Hobbits lead us to believe they were his ideal people(and pretty much anarchists).
KommanderWill 2 years ago
Tolkien was an anarchist.
Isn't is obvious?
The Hobbits are essentially anarchists, and they are peaceful and happy.
The ring represents government power. Lots of people want it, for different reasons. A major point is what they say "why can't we use the ring to destroy the ring(get to mt doom)". This is analogous to saying we can use government to fight government. But you cannot use evil to drive out evil.
You missed the point of the story by a mile, my friend.
KommanderWill 2 years ago
The hobbits are the simple-minded peasant class who rely on the benevolence of the warrior class (Gondor, etc.) for their protection. He goes on and on about the right of Aragorn to rule due to his lineage. Tolkien was about as anarchist as Edmund Burke.
scottyo218 2 years ago
@KommanderWill
Tolkien was invariably, NOT an anarchist. Tolkien was a Christian. Anarchists don't believe in God, let alone Jesus as the Christ.
Spenceheart 2 years ago
Anarchists don't believe in God? How does that make any sense?
Tolkien wrote "My political opinions lean more and more to Anarchy (philosophically understood, meaning abolition of control not whiskered men with bombs)" in a letter to his son. You can read it online, its also in a book "The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.
I wrote a paper on this subject(anarchy and lord of the rings), and I can tell you that you have no idea what you are talking about.
KommanderWill 2 years ago
granted I am not aware of the quote, but one must take into account Tolkien's religious world view.
Spenceheart 2 years ago
Without Government, there is another kind of order however, and that is something like a theocracy, and of course the theological concept of "The Kingdom of God" which should be brought into consideration when calling Tolkien an anarchist.
Spenceheart 2 years ago
Awesome!
AzeriSniper 2 years ago
Stop Stop Stop! you've got it completely backward. Tolkien was a admitted anarchist. The ring symbolizes government, not free trade. Destroy government...then human greed, in the form of corporations, will loose its powerful tool to control other men. Tolkien would roll over in his grave.
Let me guess. You would have the ring to do good, right? ha ha hah. Watch the movies again. You'll find that you are no Froto.

i don't know who you mean when you address 'liberals,' but if you mean to suggest that this détourned clip in any way promotes liberalism, you're grossly mistaken. the philosophy espoused here is that of what is referred to by serious people as libertarian socialism (aka anarchism or non-authoritarian communism).
this has nothing to do with a liberal embrace of obama or clinton or any other world-destructive moron.

"The Second Coming" -W.B Yeats
"Won't Get Fooled Again" - The Who
"Revolution" - The Beatles
"It Ain't Me Babe" - Bob Dylan
Read in that order

Why ex-Socialist? yesterday alone stockbroker scum lost £18bn of other people's pension money on one company (Volkswagen). Why has nobody gone to gaol for this?
Put ten of them in prison (any ten will do, they're all guilty). If the haven't made stealing on this scale illegal, put ten law-makers in prison as well and chain the rest of them to their PCs until they put it back the way they found it.
Stupid? What6 in comparison to giving them £500bn of our money? How is that clever?

As an ex-socialist I can appreciate this one. The second movie (Twin Towers) ends ominously: "The war in Iraq may soon be over, the war at home is about to begin..." With Gollum leading the youth (young voters) up Mordor (the Democratic Party establishment, perhaps? Obama 2008?)
The third part: "Return of Real Democracy" Coming Soon!

Hopefully a constitutional democracy which sanctions mans individual rights. The importance of a constitution is so a majority can never vote away the rights to life liberty and private property (pursuit of happiness) of a minority.

In the beginning battle, the sides should have been reversed.
JamesDisaster 4 years ago
It's interesting. Capitalism is really the closest practical economic system to anarchy. A lot of anarchists state that anarchy is based on the premise that all people are innately good, fore without established laws, the innate virtue in us all will influence our actions. Capitalism completely fails on any humanitarian level because those with power exploit those without it.
JamesDisaster 4 years ago
But you see, that's where capitalism and anarchy differ. Capitalism assumes that people inherently seek out their own self interest (which is true-see Adam Smith's explanation of the invisible hand) Capitalistic economists like Adam Smith argue that govt's proper role is to protect rights. But when it comes to the economy, the market sets prices & determine who does or doesn't stay in business. In every system where the government has tried to regulate the entire market, the result was collapse.

wakeupturnurbrainon 4 years ago
As a Swede, I couldn't agree more with this, although you mean it as sarcasm. I much rather be ruled by someone I can vote away than by someone who rules me just because he has the economic power to do so.
ladulaser 4 years ago
I know I'm replying to someone who is proud to give away half of their income to a govt monopoly, but I'll still try. In a free system where interference from govt and bureaucrats is minimized, all you need to obtain economic power is knowledge and initiative. Currently, votes of the people are REGULATED. Sweden's and every other country's economies continue due to the fact that the marketplace isn't totally regulated (or in other words, there are still some aspects of "evil" capitalism)
wakeupturnurbrainon 4 years ago
FREEDOM IS EVIL! Down with personal liberty! Give your sovereignty to the government. For Big Brother is greater than us all. He will decide what is best. He will protect us! We need not think for ourselves! Together comrades, we can elect an elite class to decide what our best self-interest is. From each according to his ability BY THE SWORD, to each according to his needs THAT BIG BROTHER DECIDES!
You are deceived.Capitalism that violates principle is not capitalism. Punish only the guilty.

Eliminate the Capitalism!
No free trade, make rich countries richer and poor countrier poorer!
Free trade is leaving poor countries in ruins...
Let's do something!
BlackHatLinwix 4 years ago
Globalization isn't going to help the poor, it's just going to make them dependent on the power of rich special interests who loot their countries resources. Free trade is about as effective at equalizing decent living standards throughout the world as the Bush Doctrine is at jamming American-controlled and corporate-sponsored "democracy" (read oligarchy) down the throats of "our little brown-skinned brothers" in the middle-east.
mikeysopha57 4 years ago
*rolls eyes* You could do this with plenty of other films. Just because you can change the actual words doesn't mean you're right about the meaning. Though a world where everyone simply shared instead of trying to get rich would be lovely
Superapplefrog 4 years ago
True, Superapplefrog, but Tolkien did have an anti-industrial, pro-egalitarian theme running throughout the work, despite it not being a specific allegory for or against any one ideology. I think that's why this video is relatively effective, because it expounds on Tolkien's feelings towards the machination of society in general.
mikeysopha57 4 years ago
If I wanted I could show how Tolkien has a blind date theme running through the workd, a superman theme running through the work, or even a let's throw crap at people theme running through the work. You could apply the work to pretty much anything.

Davamir13 4 years ago
I don't know if you can really say Free Trade is the problem, or even capitalism. I think you have to realize that anytime human societies are split into different classes, the ruling class will create tools to oppress the others. US dominated free trade is one example. Russian Communism might also be considered the same. Don't get pulled into a Capitalism vs. Communism debate, cause the real issue is human welfare and class systems, not insignificant political ideologies.
tubeafrochimp 4 years ago
You sound mixed up.
lordpipen 4 years ago
Hmm, a strange take on my favorite movie, but what the hell, it proves that there are parallels between the struggle against Sauron and Capitalism, and that both might be drawing to their close.
tubeafrochimp 4 years ago
Well, if you're able to study something as profoundly useless and ideologically motivated as economics currently is, then you're not likely of the class of people whose resources are being privatized by IMF fiat, like water resources in Bolivia. Those who aren't insulated from the real world can tell you the problems with free trade by the dozens.

Or just read "The Non-Nonsense Guide To Globalization," easily found on Amazon or at most major booksellers.
